Only 1st and 2nd year players are eligible to go to the D-League to rehab.

I'll bet terry's peeps said that.

speaking of the minor leagues SHARK...are you going to a kane county Kougars game this year?

Right now, I'm not planning on it. I know Wayne Randazzo is now the Cougars' PBP voice.

Well, it's going to be tough. My brother & his wife are welcoming their second child pretty soon. SHARK's going to be an Uncle for a second time this summer.

Terry said they got "real damn basketball every year in the 80s." Here are the scores...

1989 Michigan (30-7) Steve Fisher 80-79 (OT) Seton Hall Seattle, Wash.
1988 Kansas (27-11) Larry Brown 83-79 Oklahoma Kansas City, Mo.
1987 Indiana (30-4) Bob Knight 74-73 Syracuse New Orleans, La.
1986 Louisville (32-7) Denny Crum 72-69 Duke Dallas, Texas
1985 Villanova (25-10) Rollie Massimino 66-64 Georgetown Lexington, Ky,
1984 Georgetown (34-3) John Thompson 84-75 Houston Seattle, Wash.
1983 North Carolina State (26-10) Jim Valvano 54-52 Houston Albuquerque, N.M.
1982 North Carolina (32-2) Dean Smith 63-62 Georgetown New Orleans, La.
1981 Indiana (26-9) Bob Knight 63-50 North Carolina Philadelphia, Pa.
1980 Louisville (33-3) Denny Crum 59-54 UCLA Indianapolis, Ind.

Those scores don't exactly imply "real damn basketball" as only nine of the twenty teams reached the magical 70-point clip.
What it shows that the finals included only big time programs and that the scores were almost always close. B&B clearly prefer those match-ups.
Further it doesn't really disprove Terry's point at all. Since you bothered to count the teams exceeding 70 pts perhaps you also noticed a trend. The NCAA instituted a shot clock in 1986. The 3-point line came the following year. Thus a 70 pt score became (& should be) a reasonable expectation. Also, the shot clock went from 45 to 35 seconds in '93-'94 making that result an even more common occurrence.

I'll stick to sports I know, since I only watch about 10 NCAABB games a year.

One of the reasons it mostly(not including Houston here) the big time programs is that the field was smaller and less inclusive.

Scoring is down though simply because the style of play of basketball has changed. It's not that much different than the NBA which saw scoring go down since the 80s too though it's caught back up somewhat the past few years.

I like Dan saying he was this close to saying something when Rick Barry was bitching at an airline employee. This close and not-doing-a-fucking-thing are the same thing, lil' Danny.

A lot of the scores that were depressed during the 80's were such primarily due to the fact that there was no shot clock. The inferior teams would attempt to limit the number of possessions because they considered it the best way to win the game. The true measure of the quality of the games to me would be to look at the caliber of player that participated in those games. There were a number of all time greats that participated in those games. If you look at the Kentucky team from last year which was supposed to be loaded with NBA talent there may not be any from that team that ascends to the level of All star Terence Jones Doron Lamb and Teague may be out of the league in three years. Thomas Robinson from Kansas has already been traded. That to me is the big difference. The 80's championship teams gave you all star players the modern day gives you rotation players at best.

It's shows like today that make B&B the best show in the city and Top-10 nationally. Good blend of laughs, information, callers, sound drops, etc.

Oh, we're back to this after a year of talking about how awesome of a signing the backup qb was last year.

They've now flip flopped twice on this.

Terry: I haven't seen anyone reaching for him (Rex Grossman) this offseason.

Dan: Wait, didn't the Redskins resign him?

Terry: Yep.

Did I hear that correctly?

There was also no 3 point line for part of the 80's, right? And the shot clock wasn't introduced until '85 I believe? A 45 sec clock at that...
