So don't schedule so many night games that flexing games into the evening will put you over the cap. Is this fucking calculus? But we want moooore! Sorry. Your park isn't owned by some shadowy public-private "Stadium Authority" that gets to write its own laws. That's the price you have to pay for making more money than the Kansas City Royals or Miami Marlins could ever dream of making.

The Cubs have no business playing more than half their games at night, anyway. People here seem to like day baseball.

I think the rooftop owners, residents, ball hawks, the firemen, Ronnie Woo Woo and all the bar owners should give the Cubs a list of what will be acceptable in any present or future changes with the Cubs.

Leave Tommy. Sack up. Forget the deal and start lining up other options. These fucking people are never going to be happy. Any future changes are going to be put through this same bullshit.

You just did. YOu posted your quarter Hanley twice, so that makes it a half Hanley.

Yes. They should do that. And if the Cubs don't want anything within a one-mile radius but parking lots that the state owns but they collect the fees from, they can go build that and see how it sells when the team loses 101 games. For reference, they can consult the Brewers.

I must have missed where Ricketts asked for that parking situation. Maybe Ricketts should be able to tell the business how late they can stay open and on what days. Or maybe what color their buildings should be. Turnabout is fair play, right?

Yup. Toms problem is that he has been too nice of a guy. He should have laid out his plan & told the city that if they aren't interested in his plan, then he is leaving town. The Cubs proposed a parking garage & the neighborhood said no. They proposed a Hotel & the neighborhood said no. Fuck these assholes & go to the suburbs.

Can I ask a silly question? Judging from my recollection of a lot of the north side why wouldn't anyone want a parking garage there?

Good question. I don't think the opposition to the parking garage is that big, though. Maybe it would be ugly, though it wouldn't have to be. Maybe residents want more carlessness. I want more carlessness throughout the region.

Tom's problem is that if he left town he'd start losing money and daddy would sell the team. So he really had no leverage at all. He knew what he was buying. He should quit complaining. He sounds like one of those people who move in next to an airport and whine about the noise.

Or someone who chooses to live next to a major league ballpark and complains about noise, drunks and night games.

The latest complaint from the neighborhood is a max of 40 night games plus 4 night "events". The neighborhood is crying if MLB wants to move a day game to a night game and not have that count against the 40 game limit.

What a joke. Move the fuck out already and get a real schedule with 60 night games like everyone else. Why insist on only 40?

No wonder somebody sent Ricketts a goats head!

This one I like. Have Tommy propose that for them to put up with all this local crap in the name of "neighborhood safety", the rooftops and bars are allowed to start serving alcohol the same time as the park does, and they are cut off when the team is cut off. They can start selling again a couple hours after the game ends to make sure nobody is overserved. I mean, it's all in the name of public safety and respect for the neighbors right?

That's not a bad idea. As a de facto (well, de jure, really) extension of Wrigley Field, the rooftops should be subject to the same cutoffs.

Interesting postponment of today's game, beings that the rooftop owners were hosting the neighborhood association... Still dry downtown 2.0 hours after the game start?

I'm pretty sure they are subject to the 7th inning cutoff just like the part.

Years ago (before neighborhoods had parking permits) fans parking in the neighborhoods and taking up space needed by residents to park after returning home from work was a problem. But now, the residents have permits and those parking without them get ticketed/towed. So between that and the Cubs building a parking structure, as well as supplying additional Police patrols in the area, I would like to know what SPECIFIC issues the neighborhood is concerned about, with reguards to additional night games??? I believe all that is at work here, are the rooftop owners and bar owners wanting to have more revenue coming in from fans staying in the neighborhood after day games-eating and drinking for a couple (or more) hours, rather than driving right home after a night game. I don't see any real issues the night games present at this point.

You would think 3:05 Fridays would be a benefit to the neighborhood. Fans are in the stadium until after rush hour rather than leaving in the teeth of it. Also, the trafic dissipates more gradually as people go out to dinner or for a drink at 6.

If I were the Cubs, I would buy up that shit mall at Addison and the Kennedy, make it a big parking structure with shuttle service to the park and a new entertainment district at street level. Then work with the city to have a bus only lane on game days. That is 10 minutes from lot to front gate with a cheap opportunity to make money on food/liquor sales. An entertainment district would work there year round with direct expressway, el and bus access as well as intersection with one of the city's major angled streets.

That kind of thinking usually costs money. Consider yourself lucky.

However, the Cubs are employing really smart people. Why are they not thinking of these things?

Agree on the 3:05 starts. It would also help if there were parking restrictions keeping fans off the sidestreets.

The parking at DeVry, near your propsosed site, is $6 and people don't utilize it. If you believe an entertainment district would draw more people and would draw them year round, who is your clienetele?

You probably have a population of 1 million people within a 10 minute drive of Addison and the expressway

Ridiculous and counterproductive thinking.

Do you want them to win or not?

the ultimate goal is making money, winning is tangentially related to that goal

But why would they go there, compared to Clark St, Lincoln Ave, and downtown, on non-gamedays? Clark Street doesn't even fully operate on non-gamedays, let alone the off-season. People from the surbubs and tourists want to go downtown because it's downtown. The new complex in Rosemont is getting rave reviews and is a viable alternative for the city nightlife. Seems like an entertainment district would need more than the support of the Irving Park/Albany Park neighborhood.

That's true north of Addison. To the south, it's a different story. That stretch of Clark looks like fucking Bourbon Street every weekend.

Moe's and Barleycorn take a few weekdays off, even during the season when the team is on the road. That's south of Addison.
