Greg, Id have to with "The Bitch in Yoo" or "Stillmatic"

Ether is nasty. Total undressing.

Yeah, that's the conventional wisdom. Its just that lately, Ive been liking Stillmatic more and you could make a case it is worse on Jay Z. Ether is longer and has more stuff, but Stillmatic is just awesome.

And Nas rapping over a Rakim beat makes it perfect

I wholeheartedly disagree.

Especially since the third verse wasnt even on the original.

That was a Mobb Deep diss with one line about Nas.

Yes sir.

1. Jay-Z shot first. Came out of nowhere.
2. Better beat
3. Jay not only took care of Nas, he whooped up on Mobb Deep as well.
4. Caused Nas to remember he's great and doesn't need to make crappy songs with Ginuwine

Which brings me back to the best diss track, The Bitch in Yoo

Common, the thinking man's rapper who never had beef with anyone against Ice Cube? He's gonna get killed right? Wrong.

I'd even argue that Supa Ugly was harder than Takeover.

The third verse wasn't used at Summer Jam. The Nas line was a tease.

Agree on the beat and the spark it gave Nas but 1 and 3 are factually inaccurate.

Like I said, it was a Mobb Deep diss that added the Nas verse later AFTER he heard "Ether"

Takeover: September 11, 2001

Ether: December 4, 2001

Ether even makes reference to lyrics from Takeover.

Takeover came out first, but Ether came out before the third verse was added....as I understood it.

since we're talking rap beefs/diss-tracks, have you lot ever seen the documentary "beef" ?? shit's proper... the first volume covers the 80s into the early 90s, and notable is that they got this interview with cube in his sox cap in a car and when he's talking about the split with NWA (jerry heller, the $$$, etc) he gets to the point of the breakup where he's like "and they were all what you gonna do, go solo?"

* announcer * amerikkka's most wanted would go [however many times] platinum and blah blah blah

and then they cut back to cube and he's got this giant shit-eating grin going on at which point, IIRC, they get to no vaseline.

i saw it prolly..... 6-8 years ago so maybe my timing's off, but it's a great documentary at least for the 80s/early-90s stuff. it lost me during all the east coast / west coast stuff of the mid 90s, but you know, kool moe dee vs ll cool j? i'm in.

btw kool moe deezy all day long and twice on sundays

he dissed mobb deep? i mean, short of shook ones pt2 what do they really got going on?

my favorite diss track is still pac's hit 'em up. idk if he "won" the beef (he was obviously the better rapper than big, who was nice, but pac had that presence with the vocals up in the mix and whatnot. yeah) but hit 'em up is just glorious and fun and bouncy and "y'all aint on my level, imma let my lil homies run on you bitchmade motherfuckers" and this isn't just because of the whole barney tupac classic internet video.

Canibus' dis of LL wasn't bad.

Most of what he did after that was, though...

LL's response was terrible, btw

I like Takeover but I have a few issues with it:

Real bad ass of Jay to try and do it while Nas was taking care of his dying mother.

He got his ass handed to him in Ether and on Stillmatic freestyle

Jay is more successful, but Nas is just a way better rapper....imo

Also, he kinda lost before he began since his most popular song to that date was most known for the Nas sample.

i thought the diss with eminem and busta and.... fuck someone else, going after ja rule, was pretty good.

that and how ICP made a whole eminem diss cut called "slim anus" and em won that one with a single line in a cut "slim anus? damn right"

wasn't canibus good before he went to the military or something?

Everyone says LL killed him

I always think of Cannibas as hip hop's jobber.

Went up against LL and Eminem. Probably would have gotten around to Pac and Big too if they were still alive.
