"Myself and Greinke have a history," said Quentin, referring to incidents when Greinke hit Quentin with pitches in 2008 and 2009 when Greinke pitched for the Kansas City Royals and Quentin played for the Chicago White Sox.

"It is documented. I've been hit many times in my career, and I've never responded in that fashion. It could have been avoided. What he said was the final straw. If he doesn't say anything, I don't charge."

The video backs up what Quentin is saying. Quentin didn't charge immediately. He stared him down for a bit and then made his move. If Greinke antagonized him then not only did he deserve what he got, but Seacrest is correct in questioning the man's decision-making ability and/or intellect.

Eh, maybe. Greinke strikes me as being a bit of a douche too.

I know Quentin got hit a ton when he was with the Sox and never charged the mound.

It sucks that CQ had no other choice but to charge the mound since Greinke said something. I guess they don't teach free will at Stanford.

C'mon KD. So if you further piss off an inherently angry guy, do you think the smart thing would be to goad and antagonize, or simply to keep your mouth shut?

Charging Lebron James and breaking his collarbone is completely justified because he talks shit.

right but there's a difference between it being the smart thing to do, and whose blame it is
i agree it's not smart to antagonize this raging POS....but that doesn't excuse him for what he did

Why should he have to worry about pissing off some posturing diva?

Take your base bitch.

Fuck Carlos Quentin.

Fuck him with his broken wrist from 2008.

No one ever said that.

You keep positing strawmen as actual arguments that no one ever made here.

Actions have consequences. Grienke shares in his misfortune.

The charge didn't look like much, the catcher caught up to Quentin just as CQ got to Donald and they all tumbled into a scrum on the grass. If Donald's that delicate, he was probably a few weeks from injuring himself fluffing his pillow anyhow.

Kemp-Quentin got into it post-game as well:

If it's about sticking up for a teamate you shrug your shoulderrs and move on.

If it's about Grienke, you hit him and talk shit. You asked for a problem and got Zach. Those 5-10 starts may come in handy in a pennant race.

Selfish, selfish selfish.

And when someone else gets hurt the next time they play because of this dumb feud it will be CQ's fault for the same reason. When a San Diego fan gets stabbed by a Dodger's fan outside Chavez Ravine it will be because actions have consequences. CQ had a choice. Nobody forced CQ to charge the mound. Greinke hitting him once didn't force him to. Greinke hitting him twice didn't force him to. Greinke hitting him a third time didn't force him to. Greinke yelling something didn't force him to. Sucks for more people than just Greinke that CQ wasn't the better man and decided violence was a good solution to a problem.

So throwing a baseball in the vicinity of a man's cranium is a peaceful thing to do?

There comes a time where enough is enough. For CQ, it was last night. Grienke could have easily been the better man and shut up, or stopped hitting CQ.

There are also unwritten rules, codes, of the game. This is not a vacuum. You are a sports fan, you should know that there are other factors at play here than just "violence, or no violence"

Neither of them are innocent here either.

I'm not saying he's in the right, but Greinke is not innocent here either.

Thank you Francis.

He's been hit 87 times in his career.

Last night was just another time until Grienke decided to show him up. Keep your mouth shut and live to throw another pitch. Grienke hurt his team more than anyone else.

No, speaking of strawmen, I think I've only been saying what a douche CQ was. Greinke's a douche for hitting him, but I haven't read his mind for intent. If he did it in purpose he's a bigger douche. He doesn't deserve to have his collarbone broken for it either way. CQ's also selfish selfish selfish for doing something that's going to get him suspended a long time and possibly putting the safety of his teammates in jeopardy.

Didnt Quentin take a step towards Greinke before anything was said?

Does anyone think maybe Greinke didnt want to be seen as a bitch?

I cant believe you guys all think that in the heat of the moment of a sporting event when an opponent stares you down the correct thing is to "keep your mouth shut"

I dunno about "intellect" but certainly one mistake by you, me, or anyone else on the board could have consequences similar to broken bones or suspensions from work.

And I can't believe you think that in the heat of a moment of a sporting event after an opposing pitcher drills you (for at least the 3rd time in your career) and then starts barking at you the correct thing to do is just take your base.

Out of curiosity, was Greinke just supposed to let Quentin say and walk toward him all he wanted before he said something back? Just want to make sure I understand what is fair and what is not.

I never said that.

Im arguing for charging the mound in another thread right now.

I just think CQ is a douche in general and if the blame is between he and Greinke, Id put it on him.

BTW, I dont think there is really any blame to go on anyone here.

It was an accident. Its not like CQ went out there and tried to injure his shoulder.

These guys are both veterans, they knew at some point that this was probably going to happen.

You reap what you sew. Greinke hit a guy, and got charged. CQ will most certainly get docked a few games. An injury could happen to either guy outside of a brawl, thats just bad luck and nothing more.

Neither guy is innocent here.
