These two are really putting a beating on their bully pulpit today. Every caller that disagrees is a dope, moron, etc. These are calls that their producer deems airworthy, but they all turn out to be dumbasses. Classic example of trolling, which sadly is 90% of this show. The other 10% are bad bits where their taint licking buddies get all the airtime. I wish I could tolerate Silvy, but alas I can't.

If they don't have to, why should they? Their union collectively bargained the right to have an appeal and to hold the suspension in abeyance prior to the appeal.

What I'm saying is once Carlos Quentin is suspended for this fight in the Dodgers/Padres' game, he should forget about appealing and serve his punishment. I'm reasonably sure that Zach Greinke is also likely facing a suspension, too. The difference in the 2 is that Greinke would likely miss at least 1, maybe 2 starts, depending on the severity of this broken collarbone.

Ethically speaking, he should take his punishment, but it would undermine the bargaining power of the union if players started waiving their right to an appeal. Why leave money on the table in the form of a suspension without pay if you can get that suspension shortened? It's always a gambit worth taking for the player and the team, or at least worth having available. Is it weird that baseball players get to do this? Yeah. But they earned that right, and baseball owners are assholes who will take everything they can from you if you let them, so it's best they're held in check by the suspension abeyance rule. It's one of those rules that sucks until it's your guy.

My statement wasn't just about baseball. There have been pretty nasty injuries in football and basketball from things that have taken place outside of the rules. In baseball, the umps and coaches are usualy in the middle of the action doing their best to keep the players from hurting each other. There is a reason they do that.

Baseball fights can be "cool" sometimes. But if I were the commish, you could bet your ass I would do everything in my power to make sure that my star players weren't hurt in a Soc vs Greaser style rumble...
