Christ. What was fucking PK thinking!?!?!?

It didnt work, but I dont mind the effort. He was trying to think outside the box. And specialized coaches have become more common since then.

PK forgot that you need to have good players too

Alpo Suhohen... That name makes me laugh just thinking about it. As for Tim Floyd, when he took over the Bulls after the 1998 lockout, the Bulls were so bad at basketball, there were NBA experts that thought the team he inherited would challenge the 1972-73 76ers for all time futility. Even before the Charlotte Bobcats came along!

Is it because he's named after his talent level? Dog food?

Well, I'm old enough to remember when Ed McMahon did live commercials for Alpo on the old "Tonight Show".

Aren't we forgetting another recent Chicago coach? Despite good hair, there was a lot of head scratching over the Bulls hiring Vinny Del Negro for 2 seasons before Tom Thibodeau.

We are not forgetting him.

Who are the worst coaches in Chicago History?

These are my initial nominees:

Cubs - Mike Quade
Sox - Terry Bevington
Hawks - Alpo Suhonen
Bulls - Vinny Del Negro
Bears - Dave Wannstedt

IMO Vinny was worse than Floyd. Floyd was real bad, but he had absolutely nothing to work with. Can you imagine Vinny with that roster?

I'm not saying Wannstedt doesn't deserve it, but I'm not sure it should be so one-sided.

Neill Armstrong went 30-35 with some decent talent and one goddamn playoff game.
He's perfect for a spada interview mind you.

If I posted about all of my jokes that went unnoticed I would have about 60,000 posts.

Pretty much every Bulls coach between Jackson & Thibadeau was bad. Scott Skiles was probably the exception.

Skiles was/is also bad. The only difference was that Skiles had a roster of try-hard guys who played way above his coaching. But he grated on them just like he does everyone else, and they just could no longer deal with his weirdness, his assholeness, and his "throw my hands up in the air and say fuck it" attitude.

My opinion of Skiles really soured when the same thing finally happened in Milwaukee, and when I read here that he won't coach college because he thinks he's too good for a lesser hotel circuit. Like, seriously, dude, you're made for coaching college. Suck it up and live in Nebraska if you have to, and you probably do have to because no one is going to give you an NBA job again.

That said, I don't think it's fair to say the Bulls "played above his coaching." That makes it sound like they did everything themselves and just happened to have a screaming bald man standing around them all the time. Some of their early overachievement has to be attributed to his coaching.

I agree that he would be better served as a college coach. I'd also concede that perhaps I underrated his x/o ability slightly.

Another thing that always angered me about Skiles was that once he would become restless with a team, he'd pretty much do the "Welp...I tried to coach these guys all I could, but they just aren't very good" bit, completely absolving himself of any of the accountability. That's a weaselly thing that he does there.

Yeah, I noticed that he did that in Milwaukee. Another reason he's better suited to college is that the season isn't long enough for his charges to get tired of his shit, to say nothing of the fact that kids will naturally react better to his constant redlining than professionals have. A weak program in a strong conference could go a long way by hiring him. So, in other words, Nebraska. Play Big Ten ball under a proven NBA success (relatively) who gets the most from his players (until he doesn't anymore but we'll not mention that). Decent sales pitch.
