So why have Barristan use a dagger to kill the Manticore and not his staff? Choices like that make no sense to me. I also pictured Mance much different. I think the age is right but he was described as somewhat handsome I thought. And I didn't get a good look at his cloak, is it striped with red?

I'm 25% of the way thru Dance and I have no idea where this Theon thing is going based on the previews.

So they combined Thoros/Beric/Tom O'Sevens into one character. That is going to prove tricky I think.

Enjoying the show and I will need to rewatch last nights episode at least once more to try to understand
the new characters in case they play a major role which it appears some may. I look forward to reading
the posts and picking up on anything you guys happen to mention as well. I was thinking to myself how
much I like the show but the fact that there are so many solid characters that the show seems to move
at a snails pace to keep all the storylines going. Then they introduce at least 3 new characters this week. :o

Beric is in this season. Saw a thing on the youtubes where the actor talked about playing the character of Beric.

I think we got our first intro to Ramsay Bolton last night. I'm sure he was the guy who told Theon that Theon's sister sent him to help him escape. He'll probably let him go and then lead a hunt to re-capture him, similar to what was described in ADWD.

Just finishing the second book, hope that is true. The second book has mostly been on par with the book. The battle of Blackwater Bay was better in the book, if that is possible. The ending today was fucking incredible.

He released Theon and then killed all the guys that caught Theon and now he's going to take Theon to Dreadfort where he'll turn in into Reek.

Thought this was all pretty obvious, especially when the the guy in the woods called him a bastard as in, the Bastard of Dreadfort.

Not quite sure point of above. i thought this has already been quickly and unanimously established in the thread. As with pretty much any movie/show that gets adapted from a book.

Do you think season 3 has been bad so far?

The people who have read the books have a constant, almost sexual need to bring it up. They will not be confined to the thread dedicated to discussing the books -no. No, you must hear about it with every post. That's just all there is to it.

yea, I think its been pretty bad so far. They should call it Game of Thrones on Speed cause that's what it feels like. Seems like they have a large checklist of everything that has to be covered and are in a big hurry to check as much off the list as they can without any concern for character development.

Great season thus far, guys. As a gentleman that has read the first 3 books I gotta say that the show is doing a fine job with the material and an above average job with the pacing. I just wish the season openers would get 90-120 minutes instead of the standard 60.

There is lots to cover and I think the show is doing a damn fine job in covering it. The casting is solid and the acting is really good.

Not much to complain about.

Every book that has been developed into a screen play needs to be a agonizingly plodding 60 hour movie to accurately depict every minuscule detail that has been authored...or else, I'm gonna complain.

You need to be sure to also let everyone know that you've read the books before anyone else knew what said show was and that the books were better. This will help you solidify your title as Arbiter of Quality concerning things that people like.

I somewhat disagree. Given the constraints of the already tough task of stuffing the book into two seasons they're doing pretty well. The Brienne/Jamie development is easy to see. Danny is coming into her own especially in this past episode. Joffrey/Margaery dynamic has been interesting and viewers see how intelligent/sly she is.

But I can understand where you're coming from as they've done a poor job with Snow/Rayder. The Arya angle has been alright. But you can only do so much 3 episodes in.

I get your angle, but book 3 is being split into two seasons so they will get to Snow/Rayder one way or the other. I like them splitting the book but in doing so the writers have to really try and balance all story threads throughout both seasons. Keep all of the moving (some faster than others) but give enough attention so as not to have certain threads be jarring when they are given their time.

In that respect the writers have done good.

so do i. a good friend of mine is finally caught up and told me how good the characters are, and he's never read the books. he's commented the same thoughts i had when i read the books. what they've cut down on (the tully family stuff comes to mind) isn't essential to the main story, and they have done a good job of making credible alterations when needed. it's an extremely well written show.

Easily best episode of season:
-The Varys scenes were great. The Olenna and Varys one was my favorite of the episode. Both characters were damn witty throughout the exchange.
-The Dany scene kicked ass. I hope they explain to non-book viewers to impact and consequences of her wrecking shit up in Astapor. I think viewers are probably shocked about what happened and might not get what she just did.
-I don't get why Theon gets so much burn in this season. His scenes should be devoted to Beyond the Wall. Mance Rayder is still a total unknown to viewers.
-Margaery is so solid. She even saves Sansa scenes from totally sucking their usual shit.

Yeah, agree. Though, I didn't much care for the Arya scenes.

Margaery's grandmother.

The Queen of Thorns.

Ok, that makes sense now. Rewatched the episode this morning before work and it was a damn good one.
Lots of really good storylines going right now. Can you shed some light on why taking those slaves was a
bad move without giving too much away? It was a pretty good plan. I knew there was no way she would
give up her main dragon. The end scene with her marching out and the dragons out on point made me
excited for next week. Only thing I was confused about was the Theon situation but I am sure that will
play out.

Not saying it's a bad move. Just that Dany freed a whole city of slaves and killed the masters so a pretty large city has lost all structure. Also, Astapor is in Slaver's Bay which has two nearby sister slave cities in Mereen and Yunkai.
