It seems odd that whatever DB decided to do this did it when the race was largely over and most of crowds dispersed. Timing is odd.

That third explosion turns out to be a "controlled explosion" by Boston Police. A controlled denotation, says Fangsbites.com. Also, NBC Sports Network is carrying coverage of the Boston Marathon tragedy via NBC station WBZ-TV and will not air "Pro Football Talk" come 4P this afternoon.

Any chance this is home-grown extremists? Anti-tax extremists, ie., it's on April 15, which is also patriots Day, in Boston. Also immigration and gun bills in DC. Seems very unsophisticated for a trans-national plot.

Law enforcement officials tell NBC News that a small homemade bomb is the preliminary cause of the explosion in Boston today.
