Thoughts and prayers go out to the bartenders around the country.

Wow....that sucks. Summerall and Brookshier were the goods. And Summerall and Venturi was the last good CBS golf team.

I hope his last words were sparse and stentorian.

No details yet. He's been in poor health for a decade.

Take care of your liver, kids. When you're not a highly-compensated broadcaster for the most popular televised sport in America, it's the only one you've got!

   (And not just for me)

Summerall: "Something happened."

He actually uttered that line during a Bears/Panthers' game he called many years ago on the "NFL on FOX". Back in the day, when Pat & John Madden called a game, you knew it was big. 21 years in the broadcast booth with FOX & CBS Sports dating all the way back to 1961 through his retirement in 2002, including 16 Super Bowls.

In recent years, Pat's only steady work came as a voiceover on NFL Network's "Thursday Night Football" & as the PBP of the annual Cotton Bowl Classic near his Dallas home on FOX Sports. That was until last year when Gus Johnson, Charles Davis & Julie Alexandria called the game between Baylor & Texas A&M.

My favorite Summerall moment was during one of the Cotton Bowl's he called (thinking 2006?) when he felt the need to point out to the viewing audience that the people in the stadium couldn't see the yellow first down line that TV superimposes on the field.

Setting: Dr. Ken's 3rd floor kitchen
Time: 15 minutes ago

Dr. Ken: Hello children, it's me again, your father Dr. Kenneth Noisewater. You may remember me from last night's discussion of the marathon tragedy.

Children: No, we don't.

Dr. Ken: Very good. I'm afraid there's been another incident that Dan Bernstein would like me to talk to you about.

Children: Has gold nosedived again? Because my broker is calling soon.

Dr. Ken: No. I'm afraid Pat Summerall has died.

Children: Did he go to college?

Dr. Ken: I'm not sure. Now, understand, he lived a long and very fulfilling life and sometimes...

Children: So, he was old?

Dr. Ken: Yes. 80s. But, he also had a drinking problem that caused him to have a liver transplant.

Children: Drinking causes liver problems?

Dr. Ken: Yes.

Children: AAAAAAHHHHH!!! WHY ARE YOU TELLING US THIS??!?!?

Dr. Ken: Because Dan Bernstein told me to.

Children: Will we ever see Pat Summerall again?

Dr. Ken: No. He's dead.

Children: You know, some parents might sugarcoat that a bit more.

Dr. Ken: 82 year-old former alcoholics die. You need to deal with hard truths or you'll never make it out of 2nd grade.

Children: Will our dog ever die?

Dr. Ken: I have to go now. Good talk, fellas. Let's hope we don't have any more tragedies to discuss.

Children: Good to see you again. Come back to this part of the house more often.

Dr. Ken: Will do.

I loved listening to Summerall and Madden. Very entertaining. In the mid 80's they were practically the voice of the Bears. R.I.P.

My favorite Summerall moment is when he said he always wanted to be a pirate.

In one of Pat Summerall final interviews he talks about his days in the NFL, his move to broadcasting, some of the memorable events he called, and his long partnership with John Madden with hosts Elliott Harris and me on Sports & Torts.

I am sure CBS and entertainment tonight will be calling for the tape of his last intrerview. No drunken tales of his years as the True Value hardware spokesman?
