[I'm sure if North had more billboards he would have dominated.

He did dominate. The billboards are a later day North thing.

Again I ask...what do you base this on? Is there a link to ratings or a Feder article which mentions his dominance? As noted previously, I was regular listener but I don't recall anyone at The Score boasting about anything other than their continued existence despite dire predictions.

I'll see what I can find but I'll be honest that I'm not going to research it heavily. Off the top of my head, North was making as much or more than even the top rated talkers in the city at his peak (1.5-1.75 million). That includes legends like Dahl, Brandmeier and Matthews. I imagine his ratings had to justify the contract.
The million dollar contracts were a "later day North thing" along with the billboards - when he was regularly getting pounded by Mike & Mike. He never drew anywhere near the ratings of the other hosts you mentioned (not sure Matthews was ever in the same income bracket though). North was a tremendous self-promoter and had a stable of loyal sponsors...thus making him a valuable commodity purely from a profit standpoint. Clearly management at the time bought into his brand and hitched their wagon to his disastrous solo venture. Ultimately he was offered a contract commensurate with what he brought to the table and his ego couldn't accept the perceived downgrade.

Just as I have no family (since Murph was booted)

The first time I read this, I had a nightmare vision of Murph holding your family against their will in some bunker filled with Cubs memorabilia, fiendishly twirling his mustache and laughing manically.

One of my cousins was a day-1 listener and a fierce Murphy fan. Called in regularly and liked that Murphy was conversational. Now he has joined the rest of my family who's dislikes keep them listening to MVP.

Even moreso than North I think that running off Murph from the station brought about this sea change to the new Bernsteinesque Score we are dealing with today. Can you imagine the incredulity of Bernstien if someone on the roster tried to do a show today that was billed as "fans talking to fans"
