Not really because they do the same thing for Bears/Sox/Bulls fans.

'85 BearsButkus/Grinder Ball/Can't trade Luol Denver.

They dislike fans in general.

I agree with last sentence. But I just think Bears and Cubs hold a deeper hate. The "Lovable Losers" angle. The playing in St. Wrigley Cathedral where the fans "don't care" if the Cubs win or lose. But now they care about winning too much and need to wait and not care. Hatred of Cubs fans walking a goat for charity..."I hope they die". Seriously, WTF? The crazy obsession with Crane Kenney and his uniform. The even crazier obsession of Kerry Wood's "contract" in Ricketts' drawer. I've lost count how many times BIG.BOY.BASEBALL has been yelled at Cubs fans. Or his very favorite "maudlin". The Cubs culture is everything Dan hates about fandom.

As I've been over before, the only fans who don't do wrong as a whole in Dan's eyes are Bulls fans. Everyone else has acted improperly. Sure, there are idiots who purport to like the Bulls, but those are Jordan fans, not Bulls fans. No True Scotsman would want to keep Ben Gordon around.

wikipedia really does have the answer to every question

It's not a controlled experiment if the subject knows about the experiment...Hi Dan!

They most certainly don't love John McDonough. If anything, it's more like begrudging respect for successfully selling the Cubs and Hawks, while maintaining contempt for him being the one who sold the Cubs and Hawks and thus created all these Cubs/Hawks fans. They don't hate him as much as old-time Hawks fans do, though, that's for sure.

But even that was an anecdote from three years ago couched in a column about how celebrating Marian Hossa's 1,000th game was the typically mawkish crap that McDonough sells to puff up quotidian engagements for the idiot masses.

I'd say it coincided with LeBron's taking his talents to South Beach. Any fan who expressed the opinion that the Bulls could defeat Miami was immediately dismissed as basketball stupid. Goff loved to tweak fans in that regard as well. Not sure why Bad thinks they get a pass.

Dan himself thought the Bulls could defeat Miami until the Heat tied the series 1-1, at which point forget it.

Why is it wrong to have fun at a ballgame? It's doesn't have to be like your fucking job. It's not life and death. A winning team is great but I feel bad for anyone who can't enjoy sports unless the team they pull for is a champion. And it's a very strange attitude for a Chicagoan. I could see that being a reasonable position for stoneroses.

Kinda, but more specifically it was due to the fact that in Game 2 (and every game thereafter), Miami made the defensive adjustment of putting James on Rose. The Bulls proved to have no answer offensively for it. So, I see what you're saying, but this really isn't narrative material here.

AND

They replaced Get Down Tonight (which seemed to suggest PARTY IN WRIGLEYVILLE!!) to Go Cubs Go (which at least celebrates the actual WIN)

I like the change

I seem to remember him saying that the Bulls had about a 25% chance of winning...which isn't bad and probably about right IMO. I didn't agree with his tearing into callers who expressed optimism given that even he allowed for the possibility.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the White Sox play a song on the public address system after wins? Don't they set off fireworks? So it's too much to play a song after winning just another game in June, but it's okay to celebrate winning one of 81 games with a series of giant flashing explosions in the sky.

I don't get it either. It's why college games are so much fun to attend or watch. It's why I don't like soccer but would love to attend the World Cup or a game in Europe. The crowds look like they're college crowds on steriods.

This. That sums up my feelings exactly.
I was undoubtedly wrong in completely dismissing the idea that they rip Cub fans. However, I strongly disagree with the notion that they pick on them more than Sox fans or followers of any other team. My guess is we tend to have rabbit ears when our team is criticized which leads to the perception they are disproportionately targeted.

Not when combined with his demand that a 61-win Cubs team ACT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE after a walk-off win.
