I've been a Cubs fan my whole life. I watched a good majority of games almost every year since about 1984 or so, or I'd catch the last couple innings once getting home from school at the least.
But last year, I watched all of maybe 20 games. This year, 1 so far.
I just can't stand it man. It's like, they're terrible, they're going to be terrible, and it's like why invest any time into this product. They KNOW they're not going to win 74 games or better.

The question is, "does this make me a 'fair weather' fan?"

One way of looking at it is that there is no such thing as a Fair Weather cubs fan since they've been terrible for well over a century.

But good years in '03, '07, '08 brought out the broheims. Weren't they the fair weather fans?

I guess what I'm asking is if you simply can't watch the product because they're certain to have a shitty ass season, the 4th in a row, are you a bad fan or just saving yourself a shitload of aggrivation?

I don't think it makes you a fair-weather fan.

You still like the Cubs and hope they do well.

A fair-weather fan would be the broheims you mentioned or the sweater crowd at the Stadium-United Center when the Bulls were winning championships.

Fuck it. There is no mandate to watch bad baseball.

Seriously been feeling guilt over not being able to stomach these games. part of it it tempered by my dedication to the indian for now. And I'm getting my baseball fix by watching Sox games. Those at least are compelling for a couple reasons.

Bingo.

I've noticed the older I'm getting, the less likely I am to put the time into watching a game especially when they suck this bad. Maybe an inning or two but I think I'd rather read or watch a movie or go online than watch the cubs.

Now when I'm at work and they're playing, I'll listen. But they don't really concern me when I'm at home. I consumed a lot of bad baseball growing up. My quota has been met.

I know what Darkside is saying, and I've had this conversation with people. I use the Blackhawks as my example. When the Wirtz family wasn't concerned with having fans, I decided I wouldn't invest much time with the product. However, I still followed every transaction, draft, etc. I think a "fair weather" fan is the guy that buys a Soriano jersey as soon as they start winning and yells "CUBBIES" all game.

This has happened to me with the Bears, Bulls, and White Sox at different times in my life. It continues to happen....At some point (for me) its NOT worth the aggravation. I find other things to watch or just do something else entirely.

I don't think that classifies anyone having similar experiences as fair weather. Now the maybe the die sox white fans would disagree, but they're fucking nuts anyway.

People that criticize your "fandom" aren't true fans to begin with.

That's just like my opinion.... man.

I barely have time to watch entire Bears games right now let alone watch multiple baseball games each week. Still, I love winding down at night watching the end of a game and there really is nothing more enjoyable than going to a game with the family on a warm weather day/night.

After yesterdays latest debacle,I need to spend more time staring out the window.

Today for something different,I'll open the blinds first.

The answer is absolutely not.

There is no reason to watch a bad team in the first place, but when the team flat out says were not competing this year, you REALLY have no obligation to watch.

I think if you're a big fan, you'll keep up with any important developments without needing to see Casey Coleman or some other bum try to get thru 6 innings.

Those reasons being that their starting pitching sucks and they could not catch a beachball with both hands too !!

I watch far more cubs minor league games via the stat tracker these days than the actual cubs games. The major league product is garbage with a few guys that matter. It is hard to watch games and try to focus on those guys and ignore all the crap that won't be around once the system or free agency produces anything remotely decent.

Why invest any of your hard-earned money and/or time in an inferior product? I'm similar with the Redskins. Don't get me wrong, I'm watching every one of their games. But if they're having a good season, I'll throw down a little scratch and attend a game or two. Such as last year when I went to St. Louis, Dallas, and Cleveland for their games. I don't think it makes you a fair weather fan at all.

I can't enjoy a team that has no shot, but I still consider myself to be a fan.

A "Fair Weather Fan" is someone who gives zero fucks about a team unless they are winning. Being a fan doesn't mean you have to watch every game, but means you @ least give a fuck.
