It's wildly inconsistent. When it's good it's real good. Other times it's not too great.

The pork chop at Hog Wild simply cannot be improved.

Smoque is good--but overrated--IMHO.

Saw Smoke Daddy on Chicago's Best and need to give it a try.

I went to Lillies last month. I thought it was good and reasonably priced if you stick to sandwiches.

If you go there early (before noon) you can walk right in, no waiting. (If you were planning on lunch).

Still waiting for BigFan to add Barn & Co. to this thread..........

Has Smoque ever gotten anyone's order correct? Never got mine correct, therefore don't visit them anymore.

Stay away from any joint in the Wicker Park area, unless you like dining with the yuppie scum. That goes for the places on Division between Ashland and Western also. Downtown prices, but not downtown quality.

Correct Frank. Considering they own the BBQ Joint and the Pizza place.

I've been to Lillie's 2 or 3 times now. The longest I have ever waited was like 20 minutes. This was during dinner each time (between 6:00-8:00)

That's not so bad. Was planning on probably an early dinner...4 to 6 time frame but not about to wait for more than 30 mins for BBQ unless its being made by the Guy Fieri mult

Fire in basement. Fire not caused by restaurant. Out of commission for a little bit. Did find it funny that the major reason for closing was the dining room sustained smoke damage.

I thought Hog Wild was terribly overrated. Chuck's and Bon a Pit are excellent. The Pit was just OK for me.

In general, I think its safe to say we have really piss poor bbq selection in the city of Chicago, at least in the downtown and northside areas. I think Smoque is the best, but even that is a case of being a big fish in a little pond. Rub is disgusting, their creamed corn corn bread might be the grossest thing I've ever encountered in a restaurant. Pork Shoppe is ok, nothing special, but a good place to know about if you are dying for bbq and can't stomach the line at Smoque.

Smoque pulled pork is weak, but their brisket is the best I've had. I like it chopped.

I had Captain Curt's for the first time in about 5 years since I moved from South Shore....not as good as I remembered.

I also had Honky Tonk a few weeks ago, and it was ok, but not great. Biggie may ban me for a week for my next statement, but I'd argue that Famous Dave's bbq ranks high.
