I was thinking about this the other day as I watched The Flaming Lips attempt to play Pink Floyd's
Dark Side of the Moon live. I have pretty eclectic musical tastes and have a lot of the bigger bands
out there covered, but I was curious about the others out there that are big into music. When you
think about albums or maybe downloaded songs you might have, are there artists or bands that
maybe you like but are surprised you have nothing of? Here is my list broken into bands that I
really like that I don't have and bands that are very popular that I don't have.

Bands I was surprised that I didn't own anything from:

and for all the "180g vinyl" stuff, my copy of Something/Anything is so thin if flops when you pick it up, and it sounds great

I have heard that over the years about the Beach Boys but always forget to search it out
when browsing the cd racks. I will make a mental note of it. I don't dislike them for any
reason, I just don't know their catalog. As for Abba, I don't think I am going to make the
plunge. I like a lot of questionable bands people probably don't like such as ELO so I
understand.

ELO, you can get by on Greatest Hits, as long as it has "Fire on High," "Do Ya," and "10538 Overture." Obviously it would have "Can't Get It Out of My Head."

This is the start of RHCP decline. I would just download the 80's funk stuff, BloodSugarSexMagik, and ignore everything else they ever released. At least ignore everything since they stopped using drugs.

Yeah I have the ELO greatest hits which all anyone would ever need. As for your assessment of the other artists
I would likely agree with most of it. I doubt I would get all of Pink Floyd but grew up on The Wall, Dark Side of the
Moon and Meddle but they were my roommates. Queen can probably be handled with a greatest hits disc. I had a
brief period of the heavier rock and even some metal but never gravitated to Metallica for some reason although I
like some of their older stuff more than the mainstream. I actually saw Megadeth live. Also went to a Tool show.
Both were very good.

For the most part, I'm quite content with not having any material from any I've listed with the exception of perhaps a handful (maybe a greatest hits or live album from these exceptions will make it into my collection one day). Phish was on this list until last night, when I got the Live in Chicago '94 (UIC) 6 disc album delivered from either ebay or amazon for under $10 in anticipation of possibly seeing them play this summer.

I did do a double take when I was importing the music onto iTunes. In contrast, I also imported Mother's Milk which had 19 tracks on 1 disc. Just glancing at Chicago '94, the average length of song has to be hovering around 9 minutes.

Bad Company slipped through the cracks for me for a long time

I own very little. I probably listened to 20ish albums in the past calendar year...and maybe five of them more than once.
With the exception of 4-5 bands, I really am a terrible music fan.

Volumns I & II of Queen's greatest Hits are a must have. If you want to go any deeper, A Night @ the Opera & Queen II are the best to start.

Yeah...It actually kind of sucks. If the Lady has had enough of Sports Blahradio, we listen to XRT or whatever she flips to.
Most of the "series of notes or chords played melodically or harmonically" is me playing guitar solos to B&B after work.

It's really quite sad.

Agreed. That was an awesome album, Sir Psycho Sexy being a personal favorite of mine.

Everything since then has had some pretty good stuff here and there but mostly pop-ish, meandering fluff....a skeleton of what they used to be. It happens with age and sobriety. I did like their stuff with Dave Navarro, though, people criticized it for not being "RHCP" but I think it was more RHCP compared to most of their stuff after BloodSugarSexMagik.

That said, I do enjoy By the Way, on occasion.

I think there are a handful of pretty good cuts on Stadium Arcadium. It happily could have been trimmed to 1 disc, though. Also, I'm not sure they could have come up with anything worse for the title. The Russian alphabet would have been a better choice.

Oh yeah they guy with maybe the best voice. Although he is covered up in a lot of the songs.
If they would have gotten together 10 years earlier I think they really could have put out a lot of nice stuff.
