A parolee shot another man in the back across the street from Wrigley Field when the man tried to interfere with a robbery, authorities say.

Marcus E. Harris, 26, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street, is charged with aggravated battery, obstructing identification and attempted armed robbery.

Appearing in court today -- his face tattooed with a White Sox logo, a tear and other designs -- a judge set bail at $900,000. He snickered at deputies as he was led away.

Harris, the victim and another man were outside a club on Clark Street in Wrigleyville around 3:20 a.m. Sunday when Harris went up to the victim and said, “What’s up, I know you got some bread.”

The 25-year-old victim told police he was walking down the street a short time later and saw Harris try to rob the third man. The victim yelled to Harris, “What are you doing?” according to Assistant State’s Atty. Lorraine Scaduto.

Harris replied, “Mind your own business” and fired at the victim, hitting him in the back.

The victim was able to walk into a nearby business for help, Scaduto said. He underwent surgery at a hospital and was recuperating Tuesday, Scaduto said.

Scaduto said surveillance cameras from several businesses captured Harris in the area at the time of the shooting wearing the same clothes he had on when he was arrested. The victim also identified Harris as the man who shot him, Scaduto said.

Harris was picked up by police shortly after midnight Monday in the 1000 block of West Argyle Street in the Uptown neighborhood, police said.

Police spotted him on the street and identified him by the facial tattoos described by the victim, authorities said.

Scaduto said Harris was on parole for a felony conviction of making false reports to 911, including making “hundreds of calls reporting rapes that were not occurring,” Scaduto said.

He also has a robbery conviction and four misdemeanor convictions on his record.

This is why I can't wait until conceal and carry. At that point these kind of situations will be a lot easier to deal with. I would smoke his ass like a Cohiba from Habana.

Why isn't he getting attempted murder charges added?

He should get the Death Penalty for that Sox tattoo alone.

He'll plead insanity because of it.

I'd have given him a loaf of bread.

Thats a valid question. But the charge should be attempted manslaughter. There was no premeditation. More a decision to shoot someone interfering with his robbery.

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything with a White Sox logo at Wrigley Field.

Wouldn't the fact that he shot someone during the commission of a felony kick it up to an attempted murder charge?

He is probably a nice young man who just ran into some troubles.

The fact the police knew exactly who he was and where to find him always worries me when this kind of guy is walking around...FREE

He is why Jails exist and you should be able to PAY to be in a better jail, leaving room for scum like this to rot away for a long time.

It seems clear that he is mentally ill. Uptown all the way to the border seems to be a holding station for the non institutionalized.
