The plant had not been inspected by OSHA since 1985.

That is texas getting the regulatory beast off the backs of business. 1985? I would have thought every fertilizer factory would have undergone a complete inventory and safety inspection at least since mcveigh. I saw a report that they were WAY above the allowable limit of ammonium nitrate --like 5 to 10 times the federally allowable level. They were supposed to self report if they were over.

Who needs regulations? Big business will police themselves.

I read that it was something like 1000x the legal limit, and that it totaled 270 tons. 2 tons were used by Timothy McVeigh in the OKC Federal Building bombing.

I'm curious as to why Chas has no thoughts about the deaths of fourteen people, caused in part by the greed, or at least incompetence of a white man. Probably because there is no way to blame Obama or Muslims.

The company told the EPA that there was "no risk for fire or explosion".

The plant had no sprinklers or blast walls.

Cannot believe anyone would work there or live in the general vicinity. Good god. I wonder what their accident logs look like. Probably no reportable injuries, just a few dozen deaths.

It really didn't seem like an ideal location for an entire town. Even if the town essentially runs the plant, maybe move it on down the road a bit?

Let us be glad that Union Carbide didn't move into town.
