maybe this pick will work

I still cannot get off the fact that even if it does work, you still overdrafted. On the other hand, the Giants, a respected drafting team, overdrafted a guy who doesn't even project to OT let alone LT one pick before us.

I do remember seeing at least one mock having long going to the Bears at 20.

I think passing on both Floyd AND Rhodes is going to haunt us for a decade.

I'm late to the fun, but if the Bears' Offensive line is porous, how in the hell did they overdraft? They drafted to their most obvious need (imho) and, assuming there weren't obvious other guards to take, I - for the life of me - could not begin to comprehend why anyone would be up in arms about drafting to their (aforementioned) most obvious need.

drafting for need results in bad picks...like taking the sixth best OT in the first round. There is only so much depth at a position.

Did you ever notice that players just seem to fall to the Steelers every year?

Better players were available at other need spots, DT. I just can't believe that Kyle Long is the diamond in the rough that Emery thinks he is. If every other team would have passed on him in the 1st, I'll go out on a limb and say Emery fucked up.

I'm certainly not going to give Emery the benefit of the doubt.

Nope. He doesn't deserve it. Now this really makes me nervous about Trestman. Emery loves him.

I would love to have seen Cutler's honest initial reaction.

That was one iteration of Mel Kiper's mock draft, maybe 2nd to last one he did? Not sure. Or maybe it's the one he did if he were the GM of each
of the teams in the first round? I.E., what they should do, not what he thought they'd do, more normative vs positive analysis.

I would respectfully suggest "confirmation bias" to both your points.

It will wear off, Doc. You cannot hide. Kyle McClellin is here and cannot be ignored.

I celebrate organizations that can make 3 solid 1st round picks in one draft.

Exactly. Going on the principle that the stupid flows downhill from ownership to president to GM, it stands to reason that this may not go well.

I was tied up so couldn't watch this live, but I heard the Trestman presser afterwards and have just one question. How long did the Bears take to get that pick in? I hope it wasn't something like 5 or 6 minutes because during the press conference, Trestman said they were absolutely targeting this guy and if he was on the board, they would not consider trading down in the draft. If they ended up wasting more than two or three minutes getting the pick in, I might have to give a Who You Crappin'.

difficult to tell, as the Bears were on the clock while they were waiting for Goodell to announce the Giants pick. And they went to commerical as well.

But they still seemed to be deciding post-commercial? Fastest pick of the 1st round was the Browns. Goodell announced the pick before, did the hug/jersey/hat thing, walked to the side of the stage and immediately turned on his heel and walked back to announce yet another crappy Browns 1st round selection.

Regarding the Steelers, let's limit it to the last two years. Did you notice that two players projected as top ten picks fell to them each year?

Let's just stick to the facts on the Bears pick. They drafted the 8th OL in 20 picks. Depending on how it plays out, this guy is possibly the 5th OG or 6th OT. Take out biased words like overdraft. It is an unusual for so many OL to be picked so early and they were the last ones to pick an OL. These are the facts. I guess you can analyze them to say the draft was historically good in terms of OL talent with all of those players being worthy of their status. I disagree.
