It starts before porn.

A guy named Joe Montini predicted these things almost 50 years ago.

1. Contraception would lead to conjugal infidelity.

2. Contraceptive practice would lead to a “general lowering of morality.”

3. Contraception would lead men to cease respecting woman in their totality and would cause them to treat women as “mere instruments of selfish enjoyment” rather than as cherished partners.

4. And finally, widespread acceptance of contraception by couples would lead to a massive imposition of contraception by unscrupulous governments.

TESTIFY!

Never liked that.

So all those prostitutes they talked about in the Bible.

Lamb skin condoms?

Men, overall, have never been concerned with knocking someone up. The brain tends to sort of switch off when it's Business Time...

I think that was his point.

When it's about business, then women, and then by extension, cultures, suffer.

Yes. Very far-fetched theorizing there.

That argument has nothing to do with morality. It is all based in fear.

I don't believe for a second that contraception has had any affect on marital infidelity.

Give me freedom and I'll accept the consequences of that freedom rather than living in fear.

No. His point was that contraception would lead to all of the terrible things that were already occuring long before anyone knew about contraception.

It was a flawed point...

True freedom, exercised properly, is devoid of fear. And fear can't touch it either. Recognizing the consequences of our actions is facing down fear, not running from it.

You know who Montini is, and you know where the quote is from. And he highlights what freedom is quite well in the document.

We live in a country and world now racked with fear because we thought we knew better. Those are the facts. The unwillingness to accept the consequences of their unpleasant nature has more to do with a collective dissonannce and ignorance more than anything else.

I just looked up this Joe Montini guy. I'm not sure he's qualified to speak about much other than winning Super Bowls...

3. Contraception would lead men to cease respecting woman in their totality and would cause them to treat women as “mere instruments of selfish enjoyment” rather than as cherished partners.

This kinda reads like the guy believes the only reason to respect women is because they can be good wives and mothers.

Well, he's taking one part of their lives, SEX, and saying altering that with contraception will stop us from respecting them in their totality.

I would say, My respect of women is not 100% on sex or their ability to be my cherished partner

Obviously, Im reading this out of context and the guy seems like he probably does respect women, but that's how it comes off to me.

I agree, my respect for Mrs Ferguson is only 80% on sex. 10% on housekeeping and 10% for making well cooked bacon.
