But they eventually did, didn't they. Every other crowd wanted to be cool so they kept up the Yes! chants and the cheering until they finally had to change him. Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Well sure but that was like 6 months later.

Maybe in 6 months, FaanDaanGoo will be in a tag team with Great Khali.

But if the crowds keep cheering and singing his little song, The E has no choice.

His heel stuff will eventually just fall flat...

From what i've heard all the chants were started by English/Irish soccer fans who were in town for mania/raw. at the smackdown tapings on tuesday, the fans tried but failed at the fandango chants. its now being played at a bunch of soccer matches..

also:

"Fandango update for the UK. We have confirmation it's being played at Rangers, Everton, Barry Town, Plymouth and possibly a few other clubs so if you are going to the football today do the fandango! We're in the final 12 hours for the UK Charts which is at midnight. Last check ChaChaLaLa was at #37 so in top 40 but if you haven't got the track yet do it so we can stay there! (And for those of you who aren't fans of the Fandango Revolution, don't worry it's almost over ;)... well except the fact he's going to be on your TV every week for some considerable time to come )"

from thursday
--Fandango's song was No. 11 on iTunes in the UK and No. 3 on Amazon's UK charts earlier today. The aim is to get the song onto the UK Top 40 singles chart, based on actual sales. As of today, when it comes to sales, it is only No. 50 but they are expecting it will crack the top 40 and make the radio show. The other song with the ground swell of Internet support pushing it this week, "Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead," is expected to finish No. 4 for the week in the U.K. The BBC, which does the top 40 show, is unlikely to play the song due to the connotation and reason it made the chart.

Fandango's music was on MLB Tonight the other day. Amazing. I've been doing the chant around the house for days. It's not as over here as it was at RAW. At all. Like, X-Pac heat. Tenay won't even look at me.

heard a few hours ago per meltzer that Sami Calahan is getting all of his medicals done for wwe. it was also teased there are a few others and I'm guessing one is Mike Bennett.

------------

slow news week...

Amy Schumer, the comedienne who dated Ziggler for a while, was on Stern on 4/15, talking about breaking up with her boyfriend (comedian Anthony Jaselnik, who I think is the guy she dumped Ziggler for). Stern brought up how she used to date a wrestler and she noted, “He just won the world championship last week” and said when she heard she immediately tweeted the news to her followers and also tweeted to him, “I feel like we should get back together.”

Bret Hart in a Q&A session in Timmins, ONT over the weekend was critical of the WWE product. “I think there are a lot of people in charge of the wrestling who have no business being in charge. I think it’s turned into a little bit of WCW. They’ve hired a lot of guys who, to me, are not more skilled than the wrestlers they’re talking to.” Hart suggested using Roddy Piper and Mick Foley in creative. He also said that the way the business is structured he’d have had problems because Bret Hart was him, the look the attitude, it was his own creation, while today they give you a name and a gimmick. When asked about HHH, he said he was a good wrestler who lacks imagination. He said he was a fan of Punk, who he said was pretty close to being the second best there is, was, or ever will be. I’m a fan of Punk, but second best of all-time is far more than pushing it. He said regarding Cena that the audience wants something new, but that there is nobody there who can take the to face spot. He said he didn’t think Cena could be a heel. He said he’s a fan of Orton but hasn’t been happy with the way Orton has been used the past several months, and said Orton should be a heel. He also said he thinks Bryan and Cesaro are great wrestlers. When asked if he talked to HHH at Mania, he said it’s nothing more than “Hi” and “Bye.”

Austin is now doing a weekly podcast.

At Raw, there was a fan who held up a “Raw is Generico” sign that was clearly visible. Security grabbed him right away and he was taken from his ringside seat and moved to the opposite side of the arena while they had a seat filler take over his seat. When the fan asked why he was being moved, security told him the people running the show don’t want him sitting there, and then told him it was because of his sign. He asked if they could just take his sign and let him sit at ringside and one of the security guards was about to kick him out saying the people running the show want you out of the building, but then another security guard told him that wasn’t the case, they just didn’t want him in front of the camera. Apparently the person he was sitting with, who also had a non-vulgar sign, had also been removed from ringside (I was only told his sign mentioned ROH). I can see confiscating an ROH sign from their standpoint, although that sign police stuff comes off so bad to the public as long as the sign isn’t vulgar. But I can see other companies then sneaking guys in to promote them. So I don’t agree with it but I can see what it could lead to. But “Raw is Generico.” I mean, it makes no sense, but 90% of the signs on a wrestling show don’t make much sense. Plus, they are pushing a guy under contract to the company, granted he isn’t on the main roster or using that name, but it’s not like they are pushing a guy from a rival company.

Punk attended the UFC show in Las Vegas on 4/13 with girlfriend Amy Dumas (Lita) and was shown at ringside on camera and identified. He noted it was his first live show attending in a long time since he doesn’t get Saturday nights off. With him being injured, he told Ariel Helwani he may attend this week’s show in San Jose as well. Last year, WWE nixed him going to the ring with Chael Sonnen before Sonnen’s fight with Michael Bisping, ironically just weeks before HHH did the same thing with Floyd Mayweather.

Andrew Green, a producer with WWE has sued the company as well as Paul Wight (Big Show) in Maricopa County Court claiming the wrestler choked him and hit him in the face while doing an interview at the 1/27 TV tapings in Phoenix. Green’s lawsuit claims that another producer told him to get an interview with Wight after his match. Green listed his job as getting interviews with wrestlers either for the web site or the You Tube channel. In his suit, he claimed that when he approached Wight, Wight refused to do the interview. Green then told him that Eric Pankowski, at the time the head of creative, wanted him to do it. Wight, according to he lawsuit, “started with the use of profanely indecent language that if Green wanted an interview then he would give him one, and to turn on the camera.” The lawsuit claimed that Show acted enraged, shouted obscenities and waved his fist in Green’s face, grabbed him by the collar and throat, struck him in the face and backed him up against a trunk while saying, “You son of a bitch... Are you having fun right now...Don’t even come up to me again...I don’t give a shit who you are.” Green said the attack was taped and the lawsuit claimed, “Upon information and belief, Big Show was not feigning his emotional outburst at the time of the attack.” Green then reshot the interview with Show a second time. He said HHH asked for a retake, and asked Show to muster the same emotional level of the first interview. Show said that he didn’t think he would be able to do that because his emotions in the original interview were real. Green claimed they shot the interview a third time, but this time Pankowski said it lacked the emotion of the original interview and put the interview that Green is now suing over on the web site. The video remained on the web site for 12 days, being removed on 1/29. Green claimed he was unable to continue working after 1/29 because he was uncomfortable working around Big Show and the other wrestlers, and had a ton of anxiety stemming from the attack. Green claimed WWE had suspended or terminated Wight’s employment because of his behavior including his engagement in violent and/or unlawful and/or improper activities outside the wrestling venue. He’s looking for damages for assault and negligence. It reads like WWE will claim Wight was just acting in character, and the fact they put the interview on the site would lead one to believe everyone saw it that way. I’ve never heard of Wight being suspended or terminated in WWE. His one time he left the company was when his contract had expired and he spent a year attempting to become a pro boxer, before realizing he was too old and behind in skill level, and gave it up without even having one professional fight, and returned to WWE. As far as any activities outside the ring, I’m not aware of a track record other than one incident in Memphis back in WCW that was dropped quickly and he never was reprimanded by WCW over, and a fight, or maybe a one punch situation in a New York hotel where those who witnessed said a large fan (not as large as Wight) was becoming belligerent and challenged him.

WWE

The WWE helped raise $524,742 as part of the online auction to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The auction took place from 3/25 to 4/9. A live auction raised $75,000 and the rest was raised online with bids coming from 152 countries.

Dwayne Johnson missed being a presenter at the MTV Movie Awards on 4/14 due to his injuries at WrestleMania. They had been told mid-week that he wasn’t going to be able to make it. He did appear at the premiere for “Pain and Gain,” since he’s one of the leads.

Flair is back doing what he normally does. On the Mike & Mike morning show that airs on ESPN 2 on 4/15, they were talking about seeing Flair the day before in Las Vegas where he was doing a signing. They played his entrance music on the show when they began talking about him. That night Flair was at the Raw show in Greenville, although not used. He was there probably just to see the guys.

“The Fast and The Furious 7,” which Dwayne Johnson will likely be in, is set for a July 11, 2014 opening weekend. There is a chance he won’t be depending on when they shoot the movie. Vin Diesel had said they were shooting this summer, and Johnson is booked for much of the summer doing “Hercules,” which starts filming in mid-May and he’ll be in Budapest most of the summer.

HHH’s injury from when he had his arm in a bad place when Lesnar slammed him on the steps one of the times late in their match looks to have been a carpal sprain and a left wrist contusion. WWE.com interviewed Dr. Michael Sampson who said the injury isn’t as bad as feared. There was no break, but Sampson felt returning for Extreme Rules will be cutting it close. Evidently they don’t believe that to be the case since they started the angle where he would be facing Lesnar in a cage match as the Extreme Rules main event on 5/19. That and Cena vs. Ryback for the WWE title are the scheduled two main events for the next PPV. They’ve also announced Ziggler vs. Swagger vs. Del Rio in a three-way for the world title. When the match was announced, it wasn’t made clear if it would be on TV or the PPV. The way they write TV, I really wouldn’t expect decisions on the PPV to be made until the 4/29 Raw. But right now, as far as where things are going, it looks like Sheamus vs. Henry is a direction, that may leave Orton vs. Show, Kane & Bryan vs. The Shield for the tag title change that was talked about for Mania before they changed the undercard. If Jericho is around, a rematch with Fandango makes sense, plus they seem to be setting up Kaitlyn vs. Nikki Bella as the Divas title match, Kingston vs. Cesaro as the U.S. title match and Barrett vs. R-Truth as the IC title match.

Punk isn’t on Extreme Rules, at least wrestling on the show. He was pulled from the advertising for the European shows. They had Punk do an interview where he said very little and walked out. It looked like it was an angle with the idea he was leaving until whenever he rests up and comes back.

. After Raw, the crew flew from Greenville to Rotterdam, Holland, while the Smackdown crew the next day flew from Knoxville to Glasgow. The tour is from 4/17 to 4/28 and WWE will hit the U.K., France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Italy and Russia. Because of depth issues, The New Age Outlaws will be working tag matches the entire tour as part of the Smackdown crew. They will only be taping 4/22 and 4/23 in London, as Raw on 4/29 will be in Columbus, OH and then Smackdown on 4/30 will be taped in Detroit.

Undertaker had arthroscopic knee surgery before WrestleMania to go along with hip and shoulder surgeries over the past year.

As far as movies with wrestlers, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” did $10,894,415, a normal weekly drop and after three weeks is at $102,520,113 domestic and $271 million worldwide. “The Call” was No. 12 at $1,952,122, leaving it at $48,574,215. “Spring Breakers” was No. 17 at $380,023,leaving it at $13,529,190. “Dead Man Down” did $28,018 and is at $10,880,926.

Swagger (Donald Jacob Hager Jr.) goes on trial on 6/25 on his DUI charge stemming from the 2/19 TV taping in Biloxi, MS, when Swagger was pulled over for speeding (only going 10 miles per hour over the speed limit) but was found with marijuana in his vehicle. Swagger has three misdemeanor charges, possession of marijuana (carrying a $437 maximum fine), speeding (carrying a $188 maximum fine) and a DUI (carrying a $1,300 fine).

The attempt to get Fandango’s theme into the top 40 as far as sales on the U.K. chart, with the idea it would force it to be played on the top 40 weekend show, fell just short. Wrestling fans working together did get it high on iTunes, and for actual sales, it cracked the top 40 on 4/11, hitting No. 37. But the momentum slowed and by the end of the weekly survey, it was No. 44, falling 239 sales shy of hitting No. 40. Because the momentum fell off the last few days, given it was a novelty deal and there were very limited mainstream sales, it will be harder to hit the mark this coming week. Still, it was impressive to get as high as it did with no radio airplay. It’s the first WWE song to crack the top 100 in the U.K. since “USA,” recorded by Jim Duggan, hit No. 71 in 1994, and a time when WWF was far hotter in the U.K. than it is today.

Miz is currently out of action filming the movie “Christmas Bounty” for ABC Family, which will air it sometime in December.

Maria Kanellis’ latest statement, in a Ringbelles podcast, is that, “I never said that I was done with Ring of Honor, I just said that WWE had contacted me. Ring of Honor is still my home.” Regarding stories that the Bella Twins complained about her proposed return to WWE, she said, “I don’t think that the Bella Twins could be so immature. I always found them to be very mature and business minded so I can’t imagine them doing that. Unfortunately, we may never know the truth unless we get it from the horse’s mouth. I try not to play too much into rumors because that can get you in a lot of trouble.” She did say that she publicly apologized to Barbie Blank (Kelly Kelly) on twitter this past week. “As you get older, you start looking at things...you kinda leave all the stupidity of past angers behind. It’s about making peace with everything that I’ve ever had a problem with in the past and I think that Barbie’s extremely talented. I think that she’s fan favorite and I don’t want any negativity in my life anymore. I want to apologize for any time there was an argument.”

CM Punk & Lita Attending More UFC Events, MMA Veteran Upset with Punk Being Shown on TV
By Marc Middleton
Apr 21, 2013 - 7:41:43 AM

- CM Punk and Lita were in attendance for last night's UFC on FOX show from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The couple was seen sitting near the cage with other stars.

Punk attended last weekend's UFC event also and will be attending the April 27th UFC 159 pay-per-view from New Jersey where his friend Chael Sonnen will take on Jon Jones.

On a related note, MMA veteran Mark Coleman was upset with Punk at last weekend's UFC event. Because UFC producers decided to show Punk on TV instead of Coleman, Coleman became furious to the point he wanted to attack Punk and start a fight with him. Nothing came of it but the situation on Coleman's side was serious enough that several people at the event were talking about it

^ that is kinda awesome. I didn't notice Punk last night. Coleman would just pick Punk up and swallow him whole if he wanted.

---------

If you're thinking about ordering a t-shirt, FAAAAAK the Barber Shop Window. Worst customer service of all time and the shirt quality is worse than a regular Hanes t-shirt. It took them 32 days, 3 emails, a cancelled payment, and a run-in from Paypal just to get a damn t-shirt. The quality of the print on the shirt is BRUTAL. Plus they never actually returned an email.

----------

Mostly spoiler free review of the new Foley DVD.

5 out of 5 stars . TONS of good guests on the commentary, which is over 2 hours long. (Funk, Shane, Paul E., Russo) Some stuff is rehashed obviously, but a lot of new stuff. A lot of dude love footage I hadn't seen before. His wife isn't in it or maybe VERY briefly(awesome). Zero mention of TNA or Dixie (of course), good overview of WCW and ECW runs. You see all of his crazy bumps and the HIAC so many times, I guess I became desensitized to some of his stuff. The dvd reminds you really quick of how awesome he really was and not just a crazy hardcore dude. Trips puts him over, but very reluctantly. Gives him respect, but I got the impression he'd have a different opinion in private. I forgot how awesome the Vader feud was. Same with Mankind vs HBK. there's about 6 hours of matches. Worth the $20 or whatever.

Image
^seems like a very routine bump after watching some of the crazy stuff he did. Kind of a shame it was taken for granted imo.

As noted earlier, The Rock underwent abdominal surgery on Monday after sustaining injuries from his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 29. Johnson's rep confirmed that because of the surgery, Rock was forced to miss the Los Angeles premiere of his new film, Pain and Gain.
Director Michael Bay also commented on the surgery and offered the Rock some advice from the red carpet:

"Dwayne's hurt tonight. He was pushing it too hard. [He] needs to grow up and stop wrestling 300-pound men."

Michael Bay directed this interview. After he said Dwayne, there was an explosion. Hurt was followed by two explosions. Nicholas Cage came in to actually say "tonight" for him, in a slow, dramatic way. It was followed by three more explosions. After that, he changed the script to the interview, and had nineteen women dressed as cats do a choreographed "pushing" dance, while explosions went off in the background. Giant robots grew from the ground, as symbolism for growing up, and the "always funny screaming black guy" came out, and said "oh Jesus where are my Cheetos, we all gonna fuckin' die." It ends with Nicholas Cage saving everyone.

Michael Bay, if you ever tell someone to grow up again, I'm going to tell sorority girl that you were being lame at a party. Fuck you.

Geek cross-over story. So I was listening to Kevin Smith's podcast "Fatman on Batman". It's pretty self explanatory, but each episode he has someone from the world of Batman, etc. I was listening to one yesterday and the guest was Bruce Timm. Timm is the main creator and producer behind the DC animated universe (Batman and Superman animated series). I'm not a big Kevin Smith guy, but the show is awesome if you're a Batman guy.

He asked him all the questions you'd want answered like (and I'm paraphrasing here), why so much Robin in the show? why did the name of the show change every year? if the ratings show that only teens and adults watch the show, why was it continually pussified?, why did they combine the show with Superman's show? why was more Robin added? why and who cancelled the show? why was the show killed only to be rebooted as Batman Beyond with Batman as a teenager?, etc.

We already know the answer to every question, which is "The Network". What I didn't know was who was the exec making those decisions at the network. This is the same guy who cancelled Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid!, Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, and Histeria! Instead he brought you 7th Heaven, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, Felicity and Charmed.

He's also the same guy who told the newsweekly CableWorld that you are a thief if you use one of a DVR's best features -- skipping commercials. "Your contract with the network when you get the show is you're going to watch the spots,'' he said. ``Otherwise you couldn't get the show on an ad-supported basis.'' Whenever you fail to watch a commercial, he added, "you're actually stealing the programming.'' When the interviewer asked whether it's OK to go to the bathroom or get a soft drink out of the refrigerator, he replied, "I guess there's a certain amount of tolerance for going to the bathroom.''

This is the same guy who cancelled his highest rated shows on TNT and TBS. TNT owned the company which made this show (their highest rated show) and had a chance to sell the company and rid themselves of the financial burden of the company while at the same time benefiting from the advertising revenue of one of the highest rated shows on cable. Instead he cancelled the shows on TNT and TBS and the company officially died. Timm only drops one name in the entire interview and he finally mentions the name of the network guy.

Yep. Jamie Kellner not only killed WCW. He killed The Batman.

Now I'm taking personally. At this point, I assume he's with Disney and he's gonna put the final nail in the Star Wars coffin and officially destroy my childhood.

Cena injured

Quote:
WWE.com has learned that WWE Champion John Cena sustained an injury during WWE's European tour. The WWE Champion injured his right Achilles tendon while battling Ryback.

The injury raises questions about the scheduled match between Cena and Ryback at Extreme Rules on May 19. What lies ahead for the Cenation leader? Does this put Ryback one step closer to capturing the WWE Title?

There are no details yet about Cena's expected recovery time.

When you talk about the Achilles, that could be a year.

Just checked a wrestling website I go to, nothing on there yet, could get updated through the day, but see what they say on the LAW tonight.

Given the schedule John works, I can believe it is real.

So put him in a no DQ match, against Ryback. Have the Shield come down and clean Ryback's clock. Then allow the music to hit, have HHH or Lesnar come out as a replacement for Ryback, destroy Cena with Help from the Shield and have a Heel Champ. If it's HHH, you could have Stephanie play against her husband for 2013 so Cena can get healthy.

If you want it around a full timer, have someone like Sandow get the immediate push (again with help from the Shield)

Heck, I would be ok with Randy Orton or a heel turn for Shaemus.

WrestleMania 29 from 4/7 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, is now officially the single biggest money event in the history of pro wrestling.

WWE sent out a press release listing the revenue for the event as $72 million. The number is a combination of the live gate, merchandise and gross worldwide PPV revenue paid by consumers. That number would be up from $67 million from last year’s show in Miami, with the big differences being approximately $3.1 million more in live gate and the $5 increase in the purchase price. No merchandise numbers were released for either year, but with live attendance up from 64,000 to 72,000, merchandise most likely increased by a few hundred thousand dollars.

The release listed no PPV numbers, but WWE told Variety that the show has topped 1 million buys and could reach 1.2 million.
To put into perspective, of that $67 million last year, WWE itself took in $36.2 million, with the rest going to cable companies, a number at the time which was far above the record $29 million set the year before, which was significantly up from previous records.

With price increases, over the past few years, Mania has gone from a show doing $20-25 million to $40 million in just a few years.
Because most of the increase in revenue this year was from the live gate, which they don’t split, of the $5 million increase, WWE would likely take in about $4.2 million of that, so they would take in about $40.4 million overall for the night. Even with the expense of both Dwayne Johnson and Brock Lesnar on the same show, the increase in revenue should have made up for it. It should be noted with union costs in New Jersey, that this was likely a significantly more expensive show to produce than last year’s show in Miami. The revenue is way up from even two years ago, when they were doing in the $29 million range, having to do more with price increases at the live show from being in New York and being in a bigger stadium.

Even though The Rock’s two appearances and Brock Lesnar’s two previous appearances did not increase revenue at the level of the expenses, that those were part of stories that built for Mania. At Mania, more than made up the difference.

WWE’s monthly business charts will not list a preliminary number for WrestleMania until late May. If the figures they are quoting hold up, given the $5 increase per buy, if this year’s show does the same percentage of HD buys as last year, the show would figure to do in the range of 1.15 million buys worldwide. If the percentage of HD buys is up, and for both UFC and WWE in recent months, that has been the case as compared with a year earlier, the number would probably be close to 1.10 million at this point.
Original numbers can vary greatly from final numbers. Generally, the numbers will increase. Last year at this point figured to be 1,220,000 and the final number ended up 1,219,000, or almost identical. There was also an example in 2008 where the first announced figure was 1,058,000 and the final figure ended up 1,041,000. In 2011, the original announced number of 1,059,000 ended up finishing at 1,124,000. The WWE last year claimed 1.3 million even with the original estimate of 1.22 million based on the idea that, with late buys, it could pass the 1.25 million threshold to allow an estimate of 1.3 million. Similarly this year, if the number is 1.10 million at this point, or slightly more, they can claim with late buys they could hit 1,151,000 buys and rounding that up is the 1.2 million “probably reach” number.

A key WWE official was claiming within the business world that the show did 750,000 buys in North America, which would be a small increase over last year, if that number ends up being accurate. It would be the second largest domestic total of the year, trailing the Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz fight three weeks earlier. It will greatly trail the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert Guerrero fight this coming weekend, which will almost certainly be the biggest PPV event for the entire year.
Cable industry sources had listed lower estimates on the North American numbers. In recent years, the split has been 60/40, which at 1.1 million would be about a 660,000 and 440,000 breakdown. So it appears this show did more by percentage domestically than in the past. Some of that may be due to being in New York. For almost every PPV show, the market where the show takes place in shows a marked increase over normal numbers for buys because of all the local publicity. When that’s a market the size of New York, as compared to a Miami or a Phoenix, or an Atlanta, that can make a significant difference in domestic numbers. The GSP vs. Diaz fight, which was not in New York, nor featured fighters tied to New York, did more than 90,000 buys between the New York City metro area and upstate New York alone. One would think, this being a local show, that it would do at least in the same range, if not bigger.

It should be noted that the decline in estimated buys from last year was more than offset by the $5 extra per order price, as PPV revenue would appear to be up about $1.5 million from last year, of which, WWE will see about half.
These numbers don’t include PPVs purchased on the Internet, as that is considered web site revenue and not live event revenue. PPVs ordered on the Internet were up 33% from last year, which has more to do with familiarity of people ordering, but even so, on a worldwide basis, that’s probably in the ballpark of 18,000 total buys.

When it comes to total buys, at worst, the show will end up in fifth place in history, trailing the shows in 2007, 2012, 2011 and 2005. Most likely it will beat 2005 and 2011, and finish third all-time worldwide and fourth or fifth all-time domestic. The show has to be considered a huge success, but just the idea of WrestleMania in the New York market in 2013 guaranteed success as far as business went.

This would make the three-year Rock/Cena series end up with No. 2 through No. 4 on the all-time PPV list, making it the biggest money program in pro wrestling history. Obviously, between the ability to charge more for tickets, and worldwide PPV, there are a whole lot of things working in their favor when it comes to that statement, and you can argue it’s not the hottest program ever. My feeling is still the third year completed the story in the way it was going to be completed, and just in doing so, that hurt the heat for the third show because you couldn’t very well sell tons of hatred and they end up with Rock putting Cena over and shaking his hand.
As far as next year goes, New Orleans is a fun tourist city and the show will bring a ton of people in for the week. Will they be able to keep the ticket prices at the level of New York and produce a near-record gate? I guess we’ll see when ticket prices are announced if they are going to try. The show, and the week, will be successful for years to come. But New York was a big part of it being over the top and record breaking this year.

*****************************************************************

Raw on 4/29 did a 3.06 rating and 4.28 million viewers. This is probably going to be normal level for the show over the next few months. It was down slightly from last week, but last week was up slightly due to Undertaker wrestling. Raw was the highest rated show on cable. The last hour went against the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Houston Rockets NBA playoff game (3.06 rating; 3.80 million viewers). The first two hours went against the Chicago Bulls vs. Brooklyn Nets game (2.10 rating; 2.63 million viewers). Major League Baseball on ESPN did 939,000 viewers.

Raw did a 2.3 in Male teens (down 12% from last week); 2.6 in Males 18-49 (same as last week); 0.5 in Girl teens (down 58%) and 1.2 in Women 18-49 (up 20%). The audience was 69.2% male.

------

Smackdown on 4/26 did a 1.96 rating and 2.75 million viewers for the show headlined by Undertaker vs. Dean Ambrose. The viewership was up from the prior week, but it was going to be up given all the people watching news coverage from the Boston area on 4/19. The number was good given it went against both the second day of the NFL draft (2.46 million viewers) on ESPN 2 and an NBA playoff game on ESPN (2.89 million viewers). Overall the show finished 5th for the night on cable.

Impact on 4/25 did a 0.98 rating and 1.23 million viewers. The audience was the second lowest so far this year, behind only the 4/11 show. But this time there was a valid excuse and really, doing this rating I’d consider a positive given all the talk about the NFL draft. The draft did 6.20 million viewers on ESPN and 1.52 million on the NFL Network. There were also another 2.13 million watching the NBA playoffs, all head-to-head.

The show did a 0.71 in Males 18-34 and 0.75 in Males 35-49. So once again it got killed with males over 35, which is the prime audience watching the draft.

Once again, it was a poor first hour, which has been consistent with daylight savings time. In the segment-by- segment, the Bully Ray in-ring promo gained 13,000 viewers. Tara vs. Taryn Terrell and Rob Terry vs. Jessie Godderz gained 51,000 viewers. Kazarian & Christopher Daniels trying to recruit Bobby Roode lost 38,000 viewers. The Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Hernandez tag team title match against Roode & Austin Aries gained 176,000 viewers, but it also came at 9 p.m. when they always have the big bump. The Matt Morgan and Hulk Hogan in-ring segment gained 201,000 viewers in a segment that usually doesn’t show big growth, so that was significant. Velvet Sky vs. Mickie James for the Knockouts title lost 88,000 viewers. And the Hogan-Bully Ray in-ring with Aces and 8s and Sting cleaning house gained 175,000 viewers and was the highest rated segment of the show, doing a 1.22.
Main Event on 4/24 did a 0.9 rating and1.39 million viewers.

Saturday Morning Slam on 4/20 did a 0.7 rating and 1.06 million viewers.

WWE
The company is apparently doing an about-face on their long-time thoughts on NXT. NXT right now airs on Xbox, which is a very limited audience, as well as in Canada and overseas. They pulled it from TV in Florida, which made no sense given they are running live events in the area and without TV, often drawing less than 100 fans. Multiple sources say that there is interest in putting NXT on the air in the U.S. in the fall. One source said that they are in talks about it starting on Syfy, although the station at this point is speculative. I’m surprised Syfy would want a second wrestling show, particularly when the old NXT show was doing below the station average and ended up being canceled a few years back. There is also the idea to bring matches from NXT to the touring brands and bill them as NXT matches, to give the developmental wrestlers experience at working before larger WWE crowds. For years, the idea of developmental television is that you have television on the local market to get the personalities over locally and try and help draw a little so they perform before at least a few fans when they go on the road, but you don’t want the national audience seeing green guys or guys with different gimmicks than they would be using. Plus, the idea is when you introduce new characters to the main roster you want them to be new characters. The flip side now is that television has become the main revenue source as WWE’s philosophy is to put as many hours on television as they can, get paid for it, and that’s where the money is made. They are paying for NXT tapings either way because it’s a necessary part of grooming talent, and the show airs overseas and on Hulu plus already. The open nights are Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays (since I don’t think you’d want a show on Sunday night because of PPVs). NXT would be used as something similar to what ECW was used for at the end of its TV run, where you introduce the new talent, and have a sprinkling of stars from the main roster.

Cena is working on a bruised Achilles heel. They are saying the injury took place on the 4/23 house show in Nottingham when he did a tables match with Ryback. Because of the injury, the rest of the European tour was changed where Kane & Bryan vs. Langston & Ziggler and Cena vs. Ryback, combined as Cena & Kane & Bryan vs. Ryback & Langston & Ziggler. To make up for the lost match, they had Ziggler and Bryan work double-duty, doing a world title match early in the show and then coming back for the trios match. Cena has been limping. He did work on Raw, and even did his usual run to the ring, but he was running to the ring awkwardly.
They’ve been pushing the idea of The Shield taking out Undertaker hard on television. They had Kane going for revenge on both Raw and Smackdown this week. It’s pretty clear they would be building for something with Undertaker and The Shield. I don’t think it’s for Extreme Rules since the original idea was a tag title match with Kane & Bryan vs. The Shield, which was to be a title change when the match was originally scheduled for Mania. Plus, with Lesnar already on Extreme Rules, it really doesn’t make sense to put Undertaker on a show with a low ceiling. It makes more sense to bring him back for SummerSlam. I just didn’t think the power bomb on the table was strong enough as a sell to wait until Mania. Plus, even as big as they played it up on TV, it wasn’t played up nearly strong enough for a Mania angle nearly a year in the making.

Michael Bay said that what he said about Dwayne Johnson wrestling last week was meant as a joke, later writing, “Wrestling fans, it was a joke said on Entertainment Tonight–with a laugh. You can see the clip for yourselves. The most important person to see the on-air joke was Dwayne. I love seeing The Rock wrestle. I hope he wrestles 10 more years. I joked on air because Dwayne was not at our L.A. premiere due to his injury.” .

For what it’s worth, very few in the company believe Rock is done with wrestling because they still plug his twitter stuff every week on TV and pushed so strong his movie box office from the past week. I was told if they thought he was done, they would never do that. I don’t believe he’s done in the sense that I expect him to continue to have a working relationship in some form with WWE for a long time, maybe forever, as far as making appearances on television from time-to-time. But I’m not sure of him doing another match, although within the company, they believe once October rolls around, he’ll want to do that. WWE had the annual stockholders meeting on 4/26, and when the question came up regarding Rock being done as a wrestler, Vince McMahon blew it off like there’s no way that was the case. The reports are Vince McMahon believes Rock vs. Lesnar is still the Mania main event, with the idea of shooting the angle several months down the line, perhaps in October when they do the Hell in a Cell PPV in Miami.

Rogers Cable in Canada officially took over The Score on 5/1. As one of the changes made, Raw is being moved live on Monday nights instead of on a 15 minute delay (which would allow them to edit something out in the days when they frequently had offensive programming and it just became a tradition). It’s not a big deal, except for Canadians who want to vote in polls live or go on the app during the commercial break and it’s all screwed up for them.

There wasn’t much news at the stockholders meeting past them pushing that revenues and profits are going to rise astronomically once they get the network off the ground. They still didn’t announce a start date. The people working on the network were given the fall as a target date. If they don’t announce a time frame at the investors conference this week, I don’t see it being the fall. They were pushing their social media numbers and that ratings were up. Nothing significant came out of the questioning, which had things like asking if they were going to do an Undertaker feature film (No) or about Randy Savage in the Hall of Fame.

WWE has inked a deal with Yahoo! which appears to be replacement for its deal with You Tube which expired at the end of the one year contract and wasn’t renewed. They will be producing pre-shows before all Raw episodes and the PPV shows (similar to what they just started doing), as well as do two weekly television shows, air old footage and do occasional broadcasts of special live events. The new WWE Yahoo! station is expected to launch this summer.

The target date for Punk’s return was 5/27 for the Raw show in Calgary, but right now there is no definitive date. He was advertised for all Raw house shows in June, but now has been pulled from that advertising.

Lesnar will be on the 5/6 Raw from Roanoke. Heyman returns with him.

Regarding the deal mentioned last week with Punk and Mark Coleman at the 4/13 UFC show in Las Vegas, Coleman was really sorry about what happened. He contacted us and said he was only trying to work on his image and was playing around, and had nothing but respect for Punk, saying Punk was his favorite WWE performer.

Mattel’s WWE action figures are now the No. 1 action figure property in the U.S.

The “Total Divas” TV show will be produced by Bunim-Murray, who are some of the kings of reality TV (“Real World,” “Road Rules, “Keeping Up with The Kardashians”). The show was described to me as “kind of scripted,” as most of the major reality shows are. Whether this airs or not I don’t know, but for the Divas show, they did air when the Bellas and Naomi and Cameron were told they were pulled from WrestleMania. Rhodes was the one who was really hot about it. They’ve been airing commercials for the show on all their programming. It’s clearly all about the Bella Twins, as in 90%. But even more than what I was told when the show was first announced, it’s very clear who the stars are. At one point in another lifetime when Paul Heyman was trying to find a lifeline for ECW, he was in contact with them about an ECW reality show.

This is the update on Extreme Rules on 5/19 in St. Louis. HHH vs. Lesnar is the main event as a cage match. Because it’s Extreme Rules, there should be a stip added to Cena vs. Ryback for the WWE title, even if it’s just the no rules type of thing. Ziggler vs. Del Rio vs. Swagger is now a ladder match for the world title. Nothing else is official, but they are still pushing the directions of Kane & Bryan vs. The Shield for the tag titles, Sheamus vs. Henry, Orton vs. Show and Kaitlyn vs. A.J. for the Divas title.

Miz is scheduled back this coming week after filming a Christmas season Bounty Hunter movie for ABC Family where he was one of the three main characters.

Surprisingly, there is a full house show schedule this coming week. Usually after the long European tours, they give the talent the next weekend off until television.

Mysterio is targeting the summer for a return.

One thing should be noted from the issue two weeks ago with the Bruno Sammartino Madison Square Garden records. During most of Sammartino’s run as champion, children under the age of 14 were banned from attending shows at MSG, so that would probably make a significant difference when it comes to shows that at least came close to selling out. Kids not being allowed would also mean some parents wouldn’t go because they weren’t taking their kids.

On TV, they noted that Kingston was a father for the first time.

There is a difference when it comes to Smackdown tapings that would go largely unnoticed. Because of the WWE app, matches on Smackdown are done live in real time. When they tape on Tuesday, if there is a 3:00 commercial break, when they break for the commercial at the arena, they tape 3:00 and play it on the app. Before, they would tape maybe 30-45 seconds. With usually two matches per show, that means maybe five minutes of more live wrestling time at a taping, usually with the best matches on the taping.

Ryder’s new look, dropping the headband, the old haircut and the sunglasses, is an attempt to change his character. The thing is, to change his character, if that’s at all possible for him to really do, he’d have to drop the, “Woo, Woo, You Know It,” which is the most popular thing about his old character.

After being advertised for the May 27 Raw last week, CM Punk has been pulled from advertising from that and the June 3rd Raw.

There is no timetable for his return.

They should've done in 2011 after Punk won at MITB.

A couple things

WWE.com has posted an article informing fans that World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler suffered a concussion during this week's Smackdown tapings, during Big E. Langston's match with Jack Swagger.

"According to WWE physician Dr. Michael Sampson, Ziggler was injured during the early part of the fracas after a blow to the face. A post-match examination by WWE medical staff confirmed the injury."

At this time Dolph Ziggler's Extreme Rules pay-per-view status is unknown. Although WWE has been known to fabricate injury stories in the past to further a feud, the company has been taking concussions very seriously in recent years, and this incident does not appear to have any direct influence on the story surrounding the World Heavyweight title picture.

According to The UK Sun, the late William Moody, aka Paul Bearer, will be the first inductee into the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame.

The ceremony takes place the day before WrestleMania 30, and the report notes that speculation is The Undertaker will break character and induct Moody, however that has not been confirmed at this time

Lawler has been cleared to get back in the ring

Good for him to get medically cleared but stay out of the ring. No one wants to see that anymore.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. As always, you can buy JR's delicious line of BBQ products at WWEShop.com.

Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Dolph Ziggler's Concussion: WWE World Champion Dolph Ziggler has a serious concussion which may be a redundant statement because what concussion isn't serious? There's no timeline as to Ziggler's return as WWE will be particularly cautious in dealing with any injury but especially a head injury.

That doesn't sound good.
