I commend Matt for haviing a peaceful but probing dialogue with Berrnsie on the Collins story.
Matt has always been very sensitive to discussions about religion -- especially with Danny. It was kind of nice to hear people with differing thoughts discuss the topic in a rational, calm manner -- usually not the norm from 1 to 6.

Thirded. Im hard on him as a comedian because he's where funny goes to die but that last half hour was good. Notably his defense of the "bigoted" black caller. Well done.

I dunno I did find the B&B sports minutes hilarious. Mainly because of how incredibly bad the CBS sports minutes are. I mean, they're fucking bad. Real bad.

Yep.

Like I said in the other thread, Matt is too often willing to jump in and back Dan's play so it was nice to hear him go the other way today.

So to speak.

Tom Tolbert is good, IMO.

1 in 20 damn sports minutes is acceptable.
That's not good.

I thought he sounded like a dumb ass and was poor spoken. He wanted to buck up to Dan about Christianity. He put his toe in the water and got scared when Dan barked back at him. Bernstein shot down every thing drinky said and eventually had drinky taking his "Reformed Judaism" position.

Remember, drinky was taking the side of a caller whom Bernstein had just deemed a bigot. So it's safe to say Bernstein thinks drinky is a bigot. But, like I said, drinky backed off cuz he knew he was about to get Dan's full wrath.

Beardown: More fresh activity! What do you think about Jason Collins being the first openly gay player Girl Chained to Furnace?

Girl Chained to Furnace: I need a shower. So do you, but that's not an invitation.

Beardown: Taking a shower is crazy. I prefer a bath. ESPECIALLY with bubbles. :D

Girl Chained to Furnace: That could be the reason you're closely following this Jason whatever story.

Beardown: What about Jason Goff? He was in town this weekend you know.

Girl Chained to Furnace: Yes, I know. You informed me when you came home after following him each day.

Beardown: Black guys and their clubs.

Girl Chained to Furnace:

It was nice to actually hear Drink call Berns out on his bullshit. Bernstein has destroyed this show.

While I did enjoy drinky pushing back at the end, isn't it his job to make certain that doesn't go on for 5 hours to begin with?

If Bernstein wants them on the air do you think Abbattacola can stop him?

I only caught a little bit between the office and picking up the kiddos.

I Tweeted Drinky to ask Dan if the Quran was also a play book for hatred. I just wanted to see if Dan would have the seeds to make that statement. It's quite evident you can be as critical of western religion as you like, but the personal calculus must be a bit different regarding Islam for a corporate cog in a major market.

I take it the safe route was adhered to?

I avoided today's show because of the Collins story. When they get on the religious hatred thing it makes me very uncomfortable and I just prefer to turn the show off.

I just listened to the last half hour of the show and was pleasantly surprised at how well Drinky handled himself by confronting Dan on the issue.

I have no idea how Dan can hold so strongly to his opinion of "born again christians" and feel that is acceptable, but yet speak so passionately against anyone that holds to a different opinion on such topics as homosexuality.

Drinky has absolutely no influence on the B&B show. Neither does Terry for that matter. It's Bernstein's show. He steers Terry any direction he wants to go. Drinky answers the phones. That's it. You've been listening to them long enough. You should realize this by now.

Terry's cool with it. He collects his 500k and that's really all he cares about. Drinky has learned to accept it. He knows Bernstein thinks of him the same way he does his callers. So he doesn't even suggest show content any more. He's also pissed he's still Bernstein's producer and hasn't been promoted so he's perfectly content answering phones and staring at Bernstein for 5 hours. Zim and Mitch have destroyed any ambition he once might have had.

Yeah, drinky tried today cuz he is a devout Christian. But like I said, he quickly backed off cuz he got scared. He's also not skilled in debate or expressing a cogent thought.

So you're gonna get 5 hours of what Bernstein wants to talk about. Could be 5 hours on one hating Christians. Could be 5 hours on Penn State. It's just the way it is.

I thought Matt stepped in at several points to try and slow Bernstein's roll: Cheap to flippantly attach Westboro to the discussion, the difference between Old Testament and New Testament, and then in the end to illustrate the intolerance being exhibited by the host. Unlike most callers, Matt has seen the argumentative tricks enough times to avoid their pitfalls, and he knows to keep a level tone in the discussion and speak from his superior knowledge. The main shortfall is that he speaks going into breaks, and thus too often his words go without acknowledgement or response.

As for who really controls what is said on the show it has been repeatedly pointed out before (no less than by you, Beardown) that the person who's job it is to reign things in is either impotent or indifferent. Matt can get a dozen guests fill every 15 minute segment but what is said before and after is beyond his control.

The irony, of course, of Bernstein's crusade to defend gays and call everybody a bigot is that Dan Bernstein, himself, is a bigot. He's the 2nd worst bigot the Score has ever employed. Though it could be argued that he's worse than Mike North. North was an idiot. Everybody knew it. An intelligent bigot is always more dangerous that an idiot bigot.

We did learn Bernstein's religion today. He's a reformed Jew. Pretty much declared this to drinky in that argument where he turned drinky to his side in the end. Which basically means he refuses to listen to old testament but is more than happy to take the holidays off.

Matt did well there at the end, even Terry said he agreed with Matt. I tweeted Matt if he has friends or co-workers who disagreed with the homosexuality position being discussed on the air. He basically just told me he doesn't always agree with B&B. Matt seems like a good guy though.

Dan has intollerance for those who are intollerant of gays. That makes him a bigot? I don't believe Dan hates christians. He has a problem with the religous lot that parse the bible to convey presumed theories.

I think it's more his hatred for the working class and the poor that makes him a bigot.

What's not to hate about Christians, or any other religious nut for that matter who use some nearly two thousand year old book written by a bunch of sheep herders to actively discriminate against people?
