Kudos to Laurence for prefacing the Jason Collins segment on his show by saying things like "I don't believe in shouting people down. I want to have a discussion." and "I'm interested in all opinions, even if I don't agree with them, so long as we can have a discussion and not an argument."

He went WAAAY out of his way to essentially say that what happened between 1-6 will not happen on his show.

I think there are people who are passive racists. I think there are people who make all kind of decisions all the time, not actively, but little things. I think there are kinds of very subtle but very dangerous prejudices that creep into our everyday lives and that infect what people do. Even if people think they are doing better, if people are trying to work against them I think that if belief is in his heart I think that this person is somehow unclean or somehow wrong.

I listened to a lot of the show today and I'm usually a little suspicious when Dan goes over the top like he did today. Does he truly have the beliefs that he spoke about on air? Is he a bigot that's trying very hard to convince himself and others that he isn't?

I personally don't rely on a book to tell me how to treat people and I get suspicious of people who bring up old and new testament, I was told by a pastor once that "the bible doesn't change with the times" but yet, there is a old and new testament, which is it because it sounds like change to me, just change that benefits the beliefs of the church?

I suspect the only reason he came out now is because his career is basically over and feels as though coming out could pressure teams into signing him.

Seriously, I think the New Covenant says that stuff about "do unto others" or simply "love one another". I think gays are covered in there.

Wow.

Dan notoriously berates people who are religious or have beliefs based in religon.
I myself am not religious, but it irkes me. I don't know why.
I guess intolerance is intolerance no matter who the subject is.

Also, Dan is completely oblivious, in my opinion, to life outside his cute little upper middle class whitebread existence. The "JUST MOVE" litany is a case in point. Lots of people can't "just move". Lots of people can't "just get a better job". Education is fucking expensive and in my opinion the rules are such that minorities have the deck stacked against them quite a bit. And I don't believe Dan understands that.

God yes. He's also always talking about how people should just "invest wiser" when they don't have money. Really, Dan? What fucking planet are you on? The majority are living hand to fucking mouth, and that's a fact. Any time money comes up in any way, Dan is utterly insufferable.

Terry doesn't believe much of what he says, including his agreement with Berns today. He has just succumbed to Berns & doesn't want to go toe to toe with him.

As for today's show, I was on the road traveling & got in the car & turned on the radio mid afternoon to hear Berns flipping out on people & almost breaking down & crying at one point. The Berns act of being holier than thou & being above everyone is really old...& sad. If I was Mitch, I would have jumped out of my chair & ran down the hall to the studio to give B&B the cut throat signal.

Loyalty to my team is the real reason I didn't come out sooner. When I signed a free-agent contract with Boston last July, I decided to commit myself to the Celtics and not let my personal life become a distraction. When I was traded to the Wizards, the political significance of coming out sunk in. I was ready to open up to the press, but I had to wait until the season was over.

Matthew Shepard, a University of Wyoming student, was kidnapped, tortured and lashed to a prairie fence. He died five days after he was finally found. That same year the Trevor Project was founded. This amazing organization provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention to kids struggling with their sexual identity. Trust me, I know that struggle. I've struggled with some insane logic. When I put on my jersey I was making a statement to myself, my family and my friends.
