Dan's "fight" seems to be more metaphysical than just a discussion about equality. His claim is more about morality, or the morally unproblematic issue of homosexuality. Ironically, I know of plenty of folks who advocate for gay civil rights and legal equality, but would not encourage homosexuality within their own private lives, or the private lives of their children. I wonder what Dan's position would be on folks who are "pro-gay" in a socio-legal sense, but not particularly enthused about homosexuality in a moral sense. That kind of nuance to the LGBT discussion seems to be missing from Bernstein's self-righteous dialogue.

The assertion that Dan is "fighting for" anyone is laughable. He is flatout debating the reasons for homosexuality. Does he think he is the first to discover this? This is an argument that has been ongoing for hundreds or thousands of years. The only sports-related - or even contemporary - relation this has to anything would be "How does this affect a locker room?" or what the ramifications of a homosexual male coming out in such a masculine, atypical workplace are.

How does one make the giant leap of a professional athlete "coming out" to debating a much more global and philosophical issue of the morality of homosexuality? He obviously just waits for social or political issues to surface with even the "hint" of a sports slant so that he can "rightfully" discuss it on his show. But that makes one wonder why he is now going home and discussing it on Twitter and with his wife. Did he make the same type of efforts when states were voting on gay marriage bills? How about when politicians or celebrities come out? Does he partake in Gay Pride Parades? Bernstein is an enigma. He really reminds me of a child who discovered a cause and now must tell the world, even though the world is already aware. I just don't get the guy. He needs to be patted on the head and reassured "We know, Dan. We know."

I couldn't care less what people do. Live and let live.

But I have a lot of gay friends, many of whom I met working in catering, and I have to say the social constructs of the "gay community" are much different than those of American society at large. Adultery may be common among straights, but there's definitely a stigma attached to it. I don't believe the concept of adultery exists in the gay community. If you can hit a hot guy, you'd be crazy not to seems to be the overriding philosophy. And that's fine too. But if marriage doesn't mean commitment, what's the point of marriage? And yeah, I know there are some gay couples that have been together for years without "cheating". But what is called cheating among straights is viewed quite differently by almost every gay person I've ever met.
