Do you really think it's nice? It makes the old scoreboard look tiny and ridiculous. If they're going to do that, they should just replace the old scoreboard in center. It would look less idiotic.

That does look nice, but I feel the hotel is out of character for the neighborhood. It seems like such a silly idea.

Yeah good point. I see what you're saying. They're trying to preserve the old, while adding in modern amenities. As a big time lover of Wrigley, I am glad they are keeping as much of the character as they can.

I would get rid of the old scoreboard and put it there. Put the old one in a museum somewhere.

The juxtaposition of the jumbrotron and the old school scoreboard will take care of that regardless of the size of either. I think it looks as nice as it possibly can being the first drawing I've seen.

I like the park as it is. I think they'll ultimately ruin it and bring in less money than they did when it was a "museum".

But I also understand nothing lasts forever and the place really is falling down. Looking at that mock-up, I see another Soldier Field. Trying desperately to keep the old and failing miserably. And I don't think there is anyone- preservationists included- who, in retrospect, wouldn't say they should have just killed the columns at Soldier Field and made it all modern. It looks ridiculous now. I would hate for the same to happen at Wrigley. If you're making the decision that the old park is worthless, go all the way.

That picture hardly reminds me of what was done to Soldier Field. I agree that the museum aspect of Wrigley is what keeps the place full, and it is part of the reason I am against moving the team or rebuilding the entire thing.

But you know it isn't going to look exactly like that. There will be garish ads everywhere. Part of the hotel plan is to cover the motherfucker with ads. He's gonna make that corner look like the Vegas strip.

I think it looks ok

My idea was to build a jumbotron that looks like the old scoreboard.

Love the right field identifier sign...no way that thing remains "Wrigley Field"

Agreed. What kind of architect would have drawn it with that kind of perspective for a public meeting. Make a conceptual drawing from a favorable angle where the centerfield scoreboard is the dominating feature.

Yeah, they had a mock-up of that on the Rosenbloom page in the Trib awhile back. I thought it was a good idea. You could incorporate the old scoreboard (maybe even operate it for special occasions like the 2015 World Series run) into the hotel or the plaza somehow.

by the way, good dolphin has now figured out the rooftop owners solution...give those buildings blocked by the scoreboard appropriate zoning to build a rooftop that reaches above the scoreboard

Basically just build a new jumbotron that looks exactly like the old scoreboard but also has a video screen.

Done and Done

Works for me. All this Wrigley debate is exhausting. I just want the baseball team to be good.

No matter what anyone tells you, those are two unrelated items.

No. Having more money to play with certainly makes building a winner easier.

No evidence to support that. There is very little correlation between payroll and winning percentage.

From what I read, anywhere in those drawings where it says "Wrigley Field" will be for ad placement.

Payroll isn't a guarantee of success, but it certainly helps. Also, over an extended period of time, a higher payroll shows more consistency being a good team year in and year out...whereas teams with lower payrolls fluctuate.

The Cubs aren't trying to be good year in and year out. There is no glory in winning 85 games. And there is a very slight correlation between payroll and championships.

That's not the same thing what IMU is saying.

At least Ricketts finally said they'd consider moving if they can't get a deal done.

I'm not sure they really do have a deal done. They have a framework, a deal in principle, I guess. But somebody is going to be screaming at every juncture. It may depend on how much clout the screamers have.

I'd put the chances of a deal getting done at 95% but yes all these "special interests" have to be addressed. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the one to have to deal with all that bullshit. And I still think they blew it not demanding more night games.

What is starting to leak out is the degree of debt they took on in this purchase and that it is onerous enough to restrict the ability of the front office to get talent like Darvish, Cespedes, etc.

Imagine if those 2 were on the team now. They certainly would be a much better ballclub.

weren't night games one of the most commonly voiced reasons for why they could not compete up unitl this year?

I still think this is all a sham, and ultimately there will be taxpayer money given to Ricketts, which has been his plan all along in my opinion. Emanuel will say he tried his best to avoid it, but his hands were tied and he couldn't let them move out of the city. All orchestrated.

It looks nice and I love the Hotel. I'm pretty sure all this will happen, but Ricketts blew it. He should have looked into how much he would have saved in taxes by moving out of Chicago, how much he could have sold the land that Wrigley stands on to a developer for and what financial impact he might realize by having unlimited night games and signage opportunities. Just by contacting developers and drawing up plans for a new Ballpark in Rosemont, Schaumburg or Arlington Heights, he would have created a sense of urgency for the city and the neighborhood to come to an agreement that satisfied all the team's needs. I think this will get done now, but he's not gonna get everything he could have. They could have been much more profitable elsewhere and the idea that they are saving the old ballpark is silly. In 5-6 years the whole thing will be new.

The city had him by the balls with the landmark status. If he made a power play and moved out, he would be sitting there with the biggest privately owned dog park in the country.
