Do you want Terry's "two favorite words" to start his show right now? I didn't think so.

So if having an idea similar to a crazy organization means that you are just like that organization you just aren't acting on it then how would you describe someone who believes that a specific race is better at basketball than other races?

Before someone jumps in and says that isn't the same thing let me point out that the Westboro Baptist Church not only thinks homosexuals will go to hell, but that God is in fact punishing the world for homosexuality, which isn't exactly the same thing as thinking that homosexuality is a sin.

oh hell yeah it does.... i mean, dan's literally screaming that anyone who isn't 100.0% fan-fucking-tastic (and thanks for asking) that THE WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH IS SPEAKING FOR YOU (impression "ohhh they dont speak for me") THEY'RE SPEAKING FOR YOU!!!!!!!

at least this caller has the stones to call our bernstein's "anti-christian" agenda, but you know that's the ol wingless airplane here (that shit won't fly) but like, holy shit, the fucking irony of having 0% understanding of anyone who disagrees with you on an issue that is people having 0% understanding of agreeing with someone else? holy shit this is bad..... now he's telling us what the bible says and he's telling people what they believe and he's just going on and on and on and on while terry's trying to salvage a little cred very subtly by saying "heh heh.... i'm not a liberal, everyone knows that"

"so you don't wear clothing made out of two different fabrics?" --- wow dan. normally it'd PTFB but i wanna see how bad this gets, as you call the guy a sinner and start preaching Christianity to me.

Yep, Dan perfectly epitomizes the banality of much of social and cultural liberalism today. For the vast majority who proudly identify themselves this way, such beliefs are merely matters of self-esteem and/or social signaling, rather than reflecting any kind of genuine concern about or effort to change material conditions in the world. Dan's major contribution to this fight he's proudly crusading for is belittling people he disagrees with, a noble endeavor which just so happens to converge with his favorite pastime of demonstrating his superiority to others.

Glad this is becoming a popular opinion regardless of political leanings.
I can only hope a charlatan like Dan has a karma god taking notes during important radio.

The "what are you listening" topic needs more action. I need suggestions! Abandoning ship on the show has skyrocketed my Spotify listening. There are only so many times I can listen to a Dispatch album...

Podcast suggestions also welcome.

as the show veers over the normal break times and continues down the path of dan crusading (dan: "i believe that being gay is normal and acceptable" caller: "that's your belief" dan: "no, that's my agenda") i'm hoping that the caller ends the call telling dan to fuck off.

nope, instead he signed off nicely and called the guy "mike the bigot from woodstock" ---- yikes. seriously what the fuck has happened here? my god.... it's so obvious to me that the only reason this guy is "coming out" as gay is because his NBA career was 95% likely over and he figured the niche of being gay would get him work coming up / next season, so in and of itself the whole thing is a wholly transparent ploy by a guy to take advantage of the media and the time and place in social/media/beliefs to get a new gig going forward, but now it's "courageous" and this and that.... and now it's the front burner referendum on homosexuality that's turned bernstein into someone i'm starting to truly dislike on the air.... and this was my favorite radio program for a long time... holy shit what the fuck.

that's the most fucked up thing here: again, jason collins is doing this as a play to take advantage of the media and get himself future $$$ by using his homosexuality as a means to suddenly be so much more than an NBA-level-bum/"just-a-guy" and get a job somewhere for being "courageous" and whatnot.... and like, now it's the be-all/end-all in terms of homosexual discourse? yikes. dan's doubling, tripling, and quadrupling down on his stance here and ready to go to war with all of his listeners/callers, who he's already been skip-bayless-style baiting for a few years now (since skip proved that works on a national tv level) and when you're hitting deeply ingrained religious beliefs.... wow. 2013: what the fuck is going on?

There's no doubt Dan's been insufferable this week, but I think his Christian-bashing is symptomatic of a larger discomfort with religion itself, as opposed to particular religious traditions or beliefs. I also think the singling out of Christianity is due to demographic coincidences: the audience members who engage him are presumably mostly Christian, or have Christian backgrounds, so his ignorant responses take place within that context.

Bernstein mentioned how a bigot who is unaware of his bigotry is the most dangerous kind of bigot, so I wonder what he thinks of anti-religion megalomaniacs who are ironically unaware of their own God-complex.

you're gonna get blocked, RPB. you're not one of the good ones. i'm willing to bet hundreds of people can never text a score show via 67011 ever again cuz matt's got the orders to block everyone who shows even the slightest hint of not being in lockstep with dan's agenda (and he str8up called it an agenda a few mins ago)

again, RPB, there is no argument here... there is no issue. there is no room for debate or thought that isn't laid out by dan bernstein: your intolerance of his intolerance is simply appalling and sickening and you better be out there with dr. ken and the kids at the westboro rally cuz seriously dude, the only way to fight intolerence is with quadrupled-down-intolerance. that's not dan's belief that's his agenda. learn how to be one of the good ones, RPB.

yeah, of course you're right in the first paragraph. it's akin to an anti-sports-zealot unleashing their "agenda" upon the bears and cubs because they're in chicago and those are the two biggest-deal sports teams in town.

still tho, it's just so fucked up that dan's out there doing this taking his troll/baiting to a whole different stratosphere by purposely using this guy's selfish agenda to cash out on his tastes in human orifice to be some sort of super giant OMFG event.... i could understand if tom brady came out as gay in the middle of his HOF career, THAT would be "courageous".... but at the end of your career using your homosexuality as a stunt to get $$$ when you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain? that isn't courageous, that's selfish as hell. he isn't doing this to help any other gay person out there that isn't himself, and unfortunately this has become the crux of an issue that's possibly gonna end my long-ingrained habit of listening to this show from 2-6pm. thom hartmann has a good radio show, and wtf.... baseball is on.... you know, sports? the distraction from all of this bullshit? i thought this was a sports show, but instead it's dan bernstein insulting a majority of his audience and daring them to call up and be shouted down because, HE LITERALLY FUCKING SAID HE HAS AN AGENDA HERE.

are they talking about sports on ESPN 1000? i wanna hear sports, maybe there's still a ReVolution going on?

oh, that someone would be brave enough to jump him in WYC. He'll have to "just take it" there. Might end the segment permanently.

this caller is slamming christianity and making little subtle inferences that church is gay and definitely saying that christianity is wrong, but is this guy getting shouted down? nope... he's getting giggles and comedic discourse and whatnot cuz he's on message.

this guy should be shouted off of the air for talkign basketball..... oh wait, he's about to be cuz he said he likes melo more than lebron. the shotgun was loaded.

City of Fools wrote:

no way, they'd get shotgunned and shitcanned so quick that in and of itself would be hilarious. the whole show is constructed that dan goes out there with an agenda that purposely tries to piss off as many people as it can just so he can get people riled up and impassioned to call him up and have him use his 50kw bully pulpit to make any dissenters seem as stupid wrong and trivial as possible.... so even tho the segment is there to expose hypocrisy (i.e. having 0% tolerance of someone's intolerence) since the show has an "agenda" if the call doesn't fit in, welp, load the shotgun.

i'll give him credit for admitting (or was it slipping in the heat of the moment? he was unsure and his cadence got jittery when he said it) and this isn't a belief this is an agenda, but like.... holy shit this is just..... yikes.

Dan's accomplishing something amazing here. His Jason Collins crusade is getting someone that's completely okay with gay people and gay marriage (me) to start defending and understanding people who aren't okay with that.

Doesn't Dan take off Jewish holidays?

That "different fabrics" thing is from the Old Testament.

So, who's he crappin' saying that you can't pick and choose what parts of the Bible you follow?

This show is in desperate need of a producer. We are looking at something analogous to The Mike North Morning Show at this point.

in today's tribune there's a cartoon that shows tebow saying "i'm a christian" and the reporter is walking away saying "keep it to yourself" and then there's a picture of jason collins saying "i'm a homosexual" and the reporter is happy and shoving a microphone up in his face saying "TELL ME MORE YOU BIG HERO!!!!!" --- that's spot on for what's going on here.

obviously tebow was more incessant than collins, but like, without rehashing the wonderfully awesome "bernstein on tebow" stuff.... yeah, spot on.

The WYC should be that Bernsie is now everything he riled against. He is Mariotti and all the goofs on ESPN in the afternoon and every other human fire alarm radio/tv ass.

I actually think he thinks what he is doing is a noble thing, though, whereas ESPN knows they are full of shit. Does that make sense?

Indeed, he is. No one could convince me that a good deal of his "emotion" isn't feigned and contrived, even if he doesn't realize it himself. He is a caricature. He cares far more about shouting down "idiots" than he does advancing gay rights.

Dan wasn't a champion of gay rights when the show was "weird and bad and gay." Someone posted an aircheck from 2003ish and there was gay-lisping for comic effect all over.

I got to hear transition but tuned in to listen around 4:30 after reading comments here. I did so just as I used to with Mike North in his last 5-6 months because little being said was of a surprise just how obtusely it was being presented. Beerstain is waging a fight that he cannot win because he can't fight it on all fronts, and yet I wonder if he is too smart to believe it? North figured his popularity would trump everything except that a good deal of his popularity was connected to his affiliation with WSCR. Bernstein needs to realize that whatever ratings he can cite, they're as much a factor of the station (and to a lesser extent the long running lack of adequate competition), as they are him.

If he wants to take on Christians as being a part of an "agenda" then he has to realize that those Christians are likely to respond. Not by calling in and looking to go into one-sided debates--"you can only answer yes or no"--but by contacting the show sponsors and station sponsors and letting them know that they don't appreciate being repeatedly smeared. Penn State, CTE or Tim Tebow, those attacks are indirect and people can simply choose to PTFB when they don't care to hear it, but when you make broadsided and repeated attacks on religious beliefs then people take the affront directly and look to respond.

As to the sportsaroo: While listening yesterday, at one point Aggrey Sam was a guest but they didn't push too hard the Derrick Rose question, accepting what Sam said which was essentially the "public" company line. Later, they went on an impromptu defense of Coach Thibs by alibying that he is one of the most honest and direct coaches in the business. Today (transition) they explained why Steve Kerr made the comments he made Monday night as being a part of the back channel manner in which the Bulls operate. So the question: Is it now to be understood that they (the Bulls) lie, and just a matter of when and who is explaining the truth?
