It will probably work itself out by then.

Fun Fact: Feldman is the neighbor of Bizzarro Jerry.

Hard to tell what the situation will be in 2 weeks. I don't trust Garza to return until the day I see him on the big league mound. You never know if Jackson is hurting either. He isn't the greatest pitcher but he certainly isn't as awful as he has been this year.

It would be hard to move Feldman to the pen if he keeps tossing CG's....then again the Padres suck and this was the best Feldman has ever pitched in his career. 1st CG, most k's.

Give Feldman 2 more starts against teams with a real offense (rather than the Marlins and Padres) and you will know if he belongs in the rotation. If he has quality starts, then it has to be Jackson. Based on performance, he has been the worst starter by far. Plus, a trip to the pen might be just what he needs. It might be the wake-up call that gets him performing better. You know there will be more injuries at some point, so he would get a chance to rejoin the rotation. But when Baker is ready as well, it's gonna be real interesting. Of course, by then they may start fielding offers for Villenueva.

I told you, Jackson would be the closer by the end of that contract. This was earlier than I thought.

Feldman will prove himself to suck over the next couple of weeks and make this argument moot.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that Jackson (or Feldman) need to go to the BP. Jackson is decent for about 3-4 innings. He would make a great middle man.

Couldn't use him to close. His problems with control would be a problem with him, just as it has been with Marmol. The lack of command would cause him to walk too many and get into predictable counts that would result in bad losses in games they should have won. Nothing more deflating to a team than a closer blowing games.

Jackson will have the same average numbers he always has by the end of the year

He's not going to the bullpen

Jackson has always been a .500 pitcher (70-71 going into this season) so you think he will make it to .500? I doubt it, but he will probably wind up close to it. Is that good enough for 14 million a season? I don't think so.

He will be traded by the end of the contract...maybe twice...and maybe back to the Sox...they love to do that!

I'm still waiting for Marmol to be moved from the bullpen to open up a spot for anyone in the pen.

I could picture teams trading for him over the life of the contract that three teams are eating a portion of the salary with the Sox picking up a small fraction of it

I agree. Once he doesnt have those numbers, he will no longer have those numbers.

Not a shock that Villanueva will be the one going to the pen. They can't justify putting Jackson in the bullpen when they are paying him 14 million a season, even if he has been mostly bad. I can understand the justification too. Jackson has a more proven track record as a starter. He is basically a .500 pitcher (slightly below) that has stayed healthy and can throw a fair number of innings per year. Villanueva has mostly pitched in relief with uneven results as a starter. I just hope he can help settle down the bullpen and give Russell and Gregg some badly needed help.

Villanueva.

It's not based upon performance. It's based upon salary/ego offendability... and Carlos has done it before. He can give you a solid 5 in the start, or a solid 3 in long relief. You demote some assholes, they are basically useless for the remainder of the campaign (see Silva, Carlos) and the agent is on the phone demanding a trade. Theo don't play that shit.

With Villanueva to the bullpen, who gets cut?

Camp has sucked the worst and I think Bowden is out of options so he may stay.

The Cubs will designate Michael Bowden for assignment, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports (on Twitter). The move clears space on the Cubs' roster for Matt Garza.

Camp gives up the grand slam. Nice decision Theo. This guy blows.
