Chiggys and Kostas (both in Palatine) are really good. Hot Dog Express in Hoffman Estates was good if you are really hungover.

Now that I live damn near in Wisconsin, the best I've had locally is Sammys on 120 in Grayslake.

I've had Chiggys and you're right about those. I'll have to check out Kostas and Hot Dog express.

Kostas gets bonus points because you can get seasoned curley fries there, too.

Have you tried Fodrak's in Libertyville, Boyd? I was impressed with their gyros, though I don't claim to be a connoisseur.

Not yet...I don't generally get down that way unless I'm on my way to Vernon Hills. With Milwaukee under construction at 137, it's like a half hour drive to go that way for lunch. I will take note and try and hit it before bowling one night this summer, though.

Yes.

Once a year they have free Kronos day. You go online and print up a coupon and you get a free gyros at various places in the Chicago area. I've gone the last three years and it's definitely worth it if you get there early.

Give Hot Dog Richie's on Northwest Highway at Colfax a shot too. I forgot about them...

I had a gyros there with Dan McNeil a number of years ago when The Score was on Belmont.
It was excellent.

The Works on Golf and Washington in Glenview is great. But I've think we've had this conversation before. Most of them are Kronos, so there really shouldn't be much difference.

Central Gyros and Gematos are both great, in part due to the electric carver they both use. Instead of getting uneven chunks from a traditional knife/slicer, they are able to get nice and thin consistent strips...which not only make the sandwich better but also saves them money from what I hear.

Their gyros are from Grecian Delight, not Kronos.

I had a beer with Mc Neil at a Sox game. We are both huge in the industry.

I can't remember the last time I had a gyro. Bet it has been almost 10 years. It's a shame too because I like
them. Can only think of one place in Kenosha that sells them. Place called Sparti's right by Woodman's that used
to be a hot dog place. I'll definitely get over there, the online menu looks pretty good.

Best gyros? Locally it's Nicky's on Sibley in Calumet City. Best I've had was Anthonino's Taverna on "The Hill" in St. Louis.

I agree. I think I may have to grab me a Gemato's gyro for dinner since the wife is working tonight.

yeah, central gyros does.... and the place i'm amazed isn't mention: mister greek @ jackson/halsted.

i know for a fact that mister greek is grecian delight meat, which is superior to the greasier kronos fare... i'm pretty sure central is also grecian, but who knows.... central gyros is the only spot i've been to in/around chicago that holds a candle to mister greek, which handles it's biz 24/7/365. it's worth the effort. sauce only.

They use the electric slicers to cut the meat thinly.
