This movie is over two hours long but moves along pretty fast. It has a lot of humor but there were somethings that kind of bothered me. The fact that suddenly Tony Stark steps out of the armor and becomes some sort of James Bond type guy was a bit disturbing. No doubt,Downey wanted more face time. In this movie,Stark and the suit become seperate entities which might disapoint the nerd crowd. As far as the movie as a whole,it was very entertaining with tons of action and some great surprises. The ending looked like it was kind of forced with the action, but it was still very well done. I give it 3.5 out of 4 stars. Robert Downey and the supporting cast do a great job.

He is really old. Probably a few years younger than you. :P

I liked the movie, too. I wouldn't say that Stark was "Bond-like". He couldn't shoot a large spotlight, but Rhodes did.

What they did with The Mandarin is fucking bullshit, and I don't think I've ever been more pissed at a movie - which is not a good sign of high intellect, I know, but fuck you've got to be kidding me.

Ben Kingsley was a fucking treat as expected, no doubt ...... but the ....... I don't even know how to properly address "it" without spoiling the movie, which I don't want to do of course.

I'm no comic fanboy either - fuck the only occasional comic book I ever read was Archie and his idiot friends and those cocktease Caller Bobs Betty & Veronica - but I damn well know who the Mandarin is, and that was some fucking bullshit. Shit, making Jughead Jones wearing his shitty fabric crown hat shooting magic hamburgers out of his ass would've made more sense.

End of fuckstick-chas-like rant.

In a way, it doesn't matter. The original Mandarin character was an archaic stereotype anyway. I thought it was an interesting turn. Now if you want to get pissed over a character retcon, then check out Deadpool in the first Wolverine flick.

What do you mean?

Deadpool wasn't in the Wolverine movie.

Just like Meereen doesn't exist in Game of Thrones.

Spoilers

PREFACE: I like Marvel movies a lot, specifically this Phase 1. So I readily admit to being a fanboy, and probably giving them the benefit of the doubt.

1) Mandarin, I'm not so sure he won't become the real Mandarin. I think having Mandarin as Tony's post-Avengers foe is hard, especially with Mandarin's whole back story. He's not an easy character to pull off. And I don't read the comic books, but in reading the backstory on Mandarin before this movie, I can see how Sir Ben could still become the real Mandarin. I can't see Marvel completely writing off Stark's best bad guy. I just feel like that isn't the last we will see of him.

2) Jimmy, Stark has always been a genius. That was the entire focus of this movie, separating Stark from Iron Man. Proving once and for all that Tony really IS Iron Man, he's not just the man in the can. By having him toting guns, and making his own weapons, we are brought back to Iron Man 1 when he built mark 1, so we, and most importantly Tony, can remember who he is. He's the mechanic. I thought that was really cool.

3) Post credits. As much as it was corny, and I think Mark acted poorly, I think that was a HUGE moment. Obviously, it first tied back the initial dialogue so we know who Tony was talking to. One of my biggest gripes was that SHIELD, Capt Am or Hulk weren't really addressed in the film. And I think that post-credits scene showed that Stark is still an Avenger. Still working with Banner. Was that Stark tower? He did invite him there at the end of Avengers. I just think there is something that can be extrapolated related to Avengers 2. I just don't know what.

I loved the movie. I loved that they didn't follow the superhero script. It was different, and it focused on Stark instead of Iron Man, which was really important. And obviously, "TSWBB" at the end was cool. Will he be called back in a time of need (I'm sure he had at least 1 suit at Stark tower)? Will Iron Patriot take over in Avengers, with Tony being more of a director? Will he take over for Fury? Will he be in Guardians of the Galaxy? I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.

Went and saw the movie today. Overall not that bad. The way people around here been talking I was expecting Ghost Rider. Downey is so god,I am glad they had more of him out of the suit this time. Was not bothered that much with the Bondish stuff because it really was not physical but scientist stuff which is Stark all the way. Just the right amount of Rhodes in it. Movie has a good pace to it,did not drag that much to me. The things that pss me off was the Mandarin. I mean Kingsley is fine but the direction they took the character was total and complete bullshit. They ruined Ironman's #1 foe.

Also,New trailer for Lone Ranger. I was not interested in this movie but the more I see the more I want to see it.
Trivia note: Lone Ranger is Green Hornets Great,Great Uncle. Also his mask is made out of the vest from his brother

SPOILER ALERT..........SPOILER ALERT

The introduction of Extremis into the Marvel Universe movies is a huge and potentially lethal way to fuck everything up. I have never liked the shit from the first time it was introed to the latest version that was just in Ironman and had a 6 issue run,the new version is designer made for various types of things you want and is 100% stable.
The only thing I would think that could be a counter to this crap is Pym,they got him slated for a movie. Also, leaked from the set is the two new Avengers. Hint:Brother and sister.
Also,Tonys' surgery does not mean the end of him wearing the suit. Rhodes wears it and so does Pepper without needing the implant.
This is Downeys last contraced movie in Marvelverse. They are talking to him. He has also said he sees Tony as Being like Bond,ie actor change.
I also suggest if you saw Avengers get the DVD/BluRay and see the Deleted/Extended scenes. Two are real good and explain a few things, they are Steve Rogers a man out of time and the other is a conversation betwen Loki and Hawkeye.

Spoiler Warning:

Thanks. I bought the Avengers Blu-Ray when it first came out and still haven't watched it. The part of Iron Man 3 that I didn't care for is when he decides to take on that guy & girl (fake FBI Agent) in that small town while being handcuffed! I mean,c'mon...he's no Captain America. Why was the one suit not being functional a big deal when he had Jarvis call up 80 suits at the end?

His house had just been destroyed. There probably wasn't a way for him to get the suits. When he does call for them @ the end, you notice the wrecking crew cleaned up the area.

That's a good point. I loved the movie but a little more Iron Man would have been nice.

i enjoyed the hell out of this movie and i think this was the best "iron man" movie of the three so far. downey is just the man, and the whole supporting cast was amiable.

i like that the guy who played robert leckie in "the pacific" is getting some more roles. he was good as the bald lunatic.

i would think anyone involved in the boston bombings might want to give it a few weeks to check this movie out, though. the scene where tony visits the "bombing" site is a bit chilling in that regard.

loved the addition of the kid, too. wasn't overly wholesome but it did make me wonder...where was his mom, again? damn.

i have very little knowledge of the "iron man" comic book franchise, so any criticisms that "this isn't my mandarin" are completely null and void. it makes absolutely no difference to the film, which gave kingsley a very entertaining little bit role. he was funny. loved him cheering the liverpool goal.

there aren't too many ways to critique a superhero movie. you either buy into it or you don't. you can get caught up in the little plot holes but it's almost a given that there will be at least 2 or 3 deus ex machinas to bail somebody out and the motherload was used in this film. but i don't really mind because it was overall an enjoyable experience.

definitely a good getaway movie. doesn't completely insult your intelligence to sit back and enjoy the fireworks.

one question though: why in the everloving fuck did this movie take place during christmas when it was released in early may? are they that concerned about holiday DVD sales?

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

I feel the same way about horror films being released far from Halloween.

Jon Favereau- fuck dude, step away from the table. I know you have always been a chunky guy but you are getting to the point where it is difficult to even recognize you anymore.

The movie was ok. The story really isn't very good and it isn't even presented very well. I like the action which I guess is all that matters.

I have a conspiracy that this is just a vehicle for Gwynneth Paltrow to show that she lost the baby weight. I really dislike that woman.

The third generation Bruce Banner isn't so recognizable that I immediately knew who the guy was.

The first one was better.

See, I think the first IM was the worst one. Not that I thought it was bad, not @ all. But I found the sequels to be better.

Of course, the Avengers knocked them all out.

I thought it was great. My only thought was why in the hell would Captain America not be there to help with the kidnapping of a President. Isn't that part of his job description?

Not to get all political, but why does it seem like we can't have movies where middle east terrorists are actually middle east terrorists? I mean, they even had the useless scene of the Iron Patriot accidentally almost killing a bunch of women. We made movies all the time about the Russians when the Russians were trouble.

I'm really hoping there is an Iron Man 4. Given how much money it makes, I'm sure there will be.

Now that I think about it, that scene wasn't useless. It did move the story along for other reasons.

I wouldn't be surprised if the main people in the real life version weren't, too.
