Ugh, inches away from taking the lead there. Signs of life, at least.

Well, that sucked. I knew we'd grow to hate Zucker. If Minnesota continues to be allowed to clutch and grab all they want, it's another first round out, because they're basically the Coyotes at that point.

Eh, a desperately needed win by the Wild, and they had to bring everything they had, and still nearly lost. I expect the Hawks to win the next one, and finish it at home. I'm not worried.

I hope so. Pretty scary what they can get away with when they're firing on all cylinders and getting away with that much clutch-grab -- which you can do because it's the playoffs and we can't have too many penalties, heavens no (not that the Hawks would know what to do with them).

The Wild are also one of those teams that treats every goal as a Stanley Cup-winning goal. The Avs have been guilty of this since Duchene came up as well.

Didnt see the game but on the hilights of the OT game winner, wasnt shocked to see Oduya get outworked and outhustled to that loose puck behind the net that resulted in the goal. He's not as bad as Brookbank but he's the second worse defenseman on the team.

It was a horrible play by Oduya, but also in the frame was Stahlberg standing there like a slack jawed yokel not even trying to poke check the puck away from Zucker. Awful defense all around yesterday. And if they don't start making teams pay for penalties by scoring on PP then teams are going to continue the cheap penalties because it isn't hurting them.

It was fun to watch Pens-Isles and see what happens when you make a team pay for bad penalties. Take a look at this, Isles up 2-0:

12:21 NYI MARK STREIT : HOOKING (BRENDEN MORROW)
12:55 NYI TRAVIS HAMONIC : TRIPPING (JAROME IGINLA)
13:18 PIT PPG - J. IGINLA (1) TIP-IN - ASST: K. LETANG (1) AND S. CROSBY (1) 2 - 1 NYI
13:37 PIT PPG - C. KUNITZ (1) WRIST - ASST: E. MALKIN (4) AND K. LETANG (2) 2 - 2 TIE

then in overtime,

08:11 NYI BRIAN STRAIT : HOLDING (SIDNEY CROSBY)
08:44 PIT PPG - C. KUNITZ (2) SNAP - ASST: S. CROSBY (3) AND P. MARTIN (3)

So, to spell out the math here, Pittsburgh was to go on a 5 on 3 for 86 seconds. It took 23 seconds to score the first goal. With 97 seconds of 5-on-4 play, they took another 19 seconds to score the tying goal: this time beginning from center ice. Then, in overtime, 33 seconds to win the game. It's not just the efficiency of their power play that's amazing but the swiftness. The Blackhawks simply cannot run set plays. No, the Hawks don't have anyone quite as lethal as Crosby or Malkin, but that's no excuse for having a power play less effective than, for instance, Montreal, Florida, or San Jose, who were all above 20% on the year.
