Such a beautiful day today, and me with a rare weekday off I decided keep rogue jr home from daycare and hang out with him. Mid morning found ourselves walking our beagle with him riding his trike alongside. Pass a house where I could hear some dogs barking aggressively ( I assumed at us but we were on opposite side of street and the fence was high and pickets were close together so I couldn't see in the yard) . We got about 50 ft passed the house and the fucking gate opens and out tears this dog headed straight at us. Dog raced straight for my beagle and latched on to my poor dogs throat trying to tear his throat out . Mind you my son is on his trike right at their level. I start kicking this fucking dog as hard as I can but he isn't budging. My dog is bleeding like hell and yelping. Fortunately someone in a nearby house must've been out doing yardwork and left a rake in the front yard. I run over and grab it , come back to where this dog is still clamped down and buried that fucking rake into the side of his head. That did the trick as he finally let go and yelped away back to his yard. My dog takes off limping and bleeding down the street At this point I'm so fucking hyped up I run over to the dogs house and bang on their door. Some 50 ish woman stares out at me as I proceeded to cuss her out with all the fervor and uncouthness my south side upbringing can muster, including calling her a dumb fucking Caller Bob at least 10 times . At this point several neighbors must've heard what was going on as I'm standing there on her doorstep with a rake in my hands ready to whack her upside the head with it ( at this point I'm assuming dog limped off to die) some guy grabs me and walks me off the doorstep saying he saw it all and called 911 and for me to just concentrate on calming my son down who at this point is crying hysterically at what he just witnessed. Few minutes later the cops show up. A lady who lives down the street had corralled my dog and was walking her back to us. She happened to be a veterinary tech thank god and while my dog had some deep puncture wounds she said she should be ok and to get her to a Er vet ASAP . Cop takes my statement and tells me to go the doc and he will talk to the pet owner, who at this point I want set on fire. Take dog to vet where she has several cuts / wounds but looks like she will be ok but we have to leave her there for a few hours while they take care of her. Cop calls me when I get home , said dogs owner is horribly upset (gee really? ) and that they will be making restitution for vets bill. Also said they were cited for their dog attacking mine , don't know wtf that means big picture, maybe just a fine. This was all about 4 hours ago and I'm just now calming down. I'm just thankful that the dog didn't go straight for my son on his tricycle cuz it could've been a worse though ill not soon forget my dogs look of terror in her eyes as this was going down nor my sons screams. First time in a loooong time I've gone into protect mode and first time like that involving my son and I hope it's the last. Whew. Thanks for letting me rant, feels better typing this all out.

Wow. That's the last time you stay home on a weekday.

All kidding aside, glad your son and your pup are okay, at least physically. I'm sure mentally it will take a toll.

I have two chihuahuas both hovering at 4 lbs. soaking wet. That kind of attack would end their lives in a second.

Me too. I love dogs, but I value human life so much more.

Sorry about your dog. Glad he's ok. Hope your son is handling things as best as he can...

Scary shit. Was it a pitbull?

If that thing went after your kid I'm sure you wouldn't have hesitated to use the business end of that rake

Really happy to hear your kid is safe and dogs prognosis is good.

Also, Dan Bernstein said you're an idiot for owning a dog.

Just a mutt, tell you the truth I didn't even get a good look at it. Was probably twice my dogs size. That's the thing too, cop said the owner told him that there's no history of that dog doing anything like that towards anyone or anything, though I would think that's not something you're going to tell a cop after your dog attacked someone else anyway. So basically it's like , oh ok, sorry. Not that I particularly want something done to the dog but there's no resolution . Maybe next time he slips the gate it will be a smaller dog or someone's kid that gets attacked. Just feels like something needs to be done , though I'm don't think anything an be done. Helpless feeling. Especially when I think that often times, it's my wife walking the dog with my son. If that had happened when she was doing it, our dog would've more than like likely been killed. Though if it were a male dog, my wife is pretty good at squeezing ballsacks so mayb she would've been more equipped to deal with it than I think.

You can't just sit there and let your dog get killed. That dog's probably done this shit before and it's owner was likely totally oblivious. I'm getting angry reading your story again, fucking asshole dog/owner.

That was my wife's reaction too, said there's no way this was a one time incident. I do know that fucking dog came out like a shot and headed straight for us.

You'll never find a more kind hearted soul towards dogs than me Ivan but if I had had something heavier, bigger and could inflicted more damage than I did I wouldn't have hesitated for one second on butchering that fucking dog right in the middle of the street and not thought twice about it as this was happening

You had to hit/kill the dog. Never know if he was going to give up on your dog, and go to attack you or your kid.

Glad everybody is ok. What a crazy story.

that is some bad shit there, brouge. We have always had dogs but I would not hesitate to inflict pain on another dog who was injuring a family member or 1 of our dogs. I would have been pissed out of my mind at that lady. And no way that was a 1 time thing.

I hope your boy is O.K. That's some scary shit for a little kid to witness and process. Glad the dog is O.K. also.

I never thought about this shit until i had kids. Now I despise every house with an aggressively loud barking dog in their back yard.

May not be a bad idea to have Rogue Jr talk to a child pysch after all that. Like the last caller said, that could be tough to process and I could see him harboring fears and nightmares related to it. Best of luck to you and him tonight. I have to imagine what ever bills you pass back to the home owner are just getting thrown onto her home owners policy anyways.

A couple of other things to consider, I'd expect her insurance company come to you looking for a settlement regarding the incident. I'd document if there are any long term side effects to your son. Also couldn't hurt to get the names of neighbors that saw it.

I'm somehow not expecting the insurance company. But I agree with Turd... Get the witnesses, get the police report. We can only hope the kid's mentally okay...

When I saw this thread,I thought you had a footrace with someone. What happened to you was terrifying. I am glad your son,dog & you are going to be ok! It makes you wonder if even men should carry some type of pepper spray with them when you go for a walk. If that rake wasn't there,it could have been worse.

I always have a knife on me.
It's either on my Leatherman when I'm working, or, when I'm not on duty, I got a Buck Knife 110 that I keep on my belt.
I'd cut that fucking dog. It never would have made it to where ever it went after you whacked it with Frank's missing rake.

I like the fire and passion. I swear, a fair number - say 30% - of dog owners are the most irresponsible SOBs around. Dog owners should be subject to a background check.

If some dog attacks you, what are you going to do,give him your wallet?
Joggers, walkers, etc.,it doesn't hurt to have something to chase away crazed animals or maybe some crazed dude with a knife.
