Let's get this campaign going, Bosco. I can already see the "Fuck Motorcyclists" bumper stickers. Print 'em up!

I check for vehicles.

I'm not checking twice because some people decide to use a smaller more dangerous vehicle

What?

So when someone gets shot and it misses a major artery by an inch, that is not almost killed?

I walked away from my accident and felt like I was almost killed as well

I think getting shot and walking away from an auto accident are two pretty different things.

I thought I did as well.

Didn't mean to neglect your contrbutions. My eyes started to glaze over once the tatoo, penis size and shitty neighbor talk commenced.

It's really just a PSA campaign designed by responsible riders, for the sake of responsible riders. It also puts the burden on riders to be visible in traffic. The crash caused by a car turning left in front of a rider is where the person generally states "I never saw him" and why the campaign emphasises SEEING. But hey, read what you want into it to suit the old-man rant.

Bosco and a few others want to take the critical incident approach and apply the actions of a few to the masses. What's next, heavy metal music and rap music?

I ride year-round (when possible) and generally commute at least 3 days a week, usually on the Kennedy, Tri-State or 1-88. Have I seen riders utilizing the breakdown lane to avoid traffic? Rarely, but I also see cars doing the same thing and abusing lanes for their own selfish purpose. I am far from an aggressive rider and I change lanes way more on my bike than in my car. Why? You have to ride like you are invisible out there and that means staying out of blind spots, and changing position within a lane or changing lanes is the proper way to do. It's also done to minimize the effects of road debris, passing vehicles, and wind. I probably miss a hooligan biker or two out there because I'm so busy watching out for all the cagers talking/texting while driving.

If I rode on Lake Shore on Fri/Sat nights or spent time in the suburbs on weekends, I'm sure I'd see more of the DB behavior.

If you want to DB a motorcycle initiative, start with the lazy and selfish "LOUD PIPES SAVES LIVES."

I have a bigger issue with all the fucking douchebags who think their Harley needs to rattle the windows in my house or completely drown out my radio while stopped at a light.

I look around for traffic, if you are in a car or a motorcycle I will avoid hitting you. If you are doing 95 mph and swerve into my blind spot.... sorry pal, hope you survive.

There are idiot auto drivers, idiot bikers, and idiot truckers. I see a lot more assholes in cars than I do on bikes, but the biggest difference seems to be with the bikers is that they are making a lot more high risk/dangerous maneuvers. 98% of these (that I see anyway) don't wear helmets which tells you a lot about how smart they really are.

Edit- I meant 98% of the bikers driving like idiots don't wear helmets, not 98% of bikers in general.

Motorcycle drivers are safer or better than car drivers? Um, no.
http://trafficsafety.org/safety/sharing/motorcycle/motor-facts/motor-injuries-fatalities
Quote:
Alcohol is a greater risk factor for fatal crashes involving motorcycles than other types of vehicles. One in 4 automobile driver fatalities in the United States were alcohol-related during 2005. In comparison, a higher proportion of motorcycle rider fatalities (1 in 3) were related to alcohol in the same year.

Quote:
In 2006, 37 percent of all motorcyclists involved in fatal crashes were speeding, compared with 23 percent for drivers of passenger cars, 19 percent for light truck drivers and 8 percent for large truck drivers.

Quote:
One out of four motorcycle operators (25%) who were involved in fatal crashes were riding without a valid license in 2006, compared with 13 percent of passenger vehicle drivers. Motorcycle operators were also 1.2 times more likely than passenger vehicle drivers to have a prior license suspension or revocation.

Not to mention, that almost 50% of fatal motorcycle crashes didn't involve any other car in motion.

KRAMER (shouting over the cycle's engine): Hey! You ever been in an accident?

BIKER: About five years ago. I was going down this very road. Same time of day, going about the same speed I'm going now...there was a rock in the road. Couldn't have been more than a pebble. Never really saw it! Lost control of the bike, went flyin' about a hundred feet - came down right on my head. Cracked it wide open! Blood and stuff was just splattered all over the road, there...I broke every bone in my face. Hey, you know, when they found me, my eyes were hanging out of their sockets? Yeah, they pronounced me dead at the scene. I was in a coma for...well, they told me about a year...said I'd be a vegetable for life. Yeah, but I showed 'em. Ever since then I always wear a helmet! <The biker goes into a turn.> Lean! <Kramer yells.>

It's not a strawman. Motorcycle drivers love to make it seem like car drivers are driving unsafely and it leads to dangerous situations. You even did by bringing up "talking/texting". In reality, it turns out that at least for those who get in fatal accidents, the motorcyclist is more likely to be drunk, speeding, and unlicensed than a "cager".

What is the point of asking rhetorically if "motorcycle drivers are safer or better than car drivers?"

"Make it seem???" Good grief, texting while driving is illegal and unsafe. There's even a PSA or two about.

I asked because many, in this thread, and in other threads about this, have made it seem like car drivers are dangerous on the road. You did too, in multiple ways. You've spent much of this thread discounting just how "unsafe" motorcycle drivers are.
Furious Styles wrote:

Of course it is, but that doesn't mean all car drivers are unsafe or that the average car driver is more unsafe. That's why I pointed out that motorcyclists are more likely to be drunk, speeding, or unlicensed at the time of a fatal crash than a car driver is.

Everyone knows you can only drink and drive equal to the number of wheels on your vehicle. That's why so many truckers are driving around shithoused.

Sorry, I never discounted how unsafe motorcycle riders are, I addressed the stereotype discussion. Revving a bike at 5am is not unsafe or dangerous, it's just not being a very good person.

I made 4 posts prior to you changing courses:

1. dismissed the nomination and the following generalizations
2. goofed on bosco
3. complimented Peoria Matt for his reasoned response to the meatball comments
4. explained the PSA that you were reading way too much into

I'm very aware of the statistics - who is saying all car drivers are unsafe? Who is saying the average car driver is more unsafe?
