It's really just a PSA campaign designed by responsible riders, for the sake of responsible riders. It also puts the burden on riders to be visible in traffic. The crash caused by a car turning left in front of a rider is where the person generally states "I never saw him" and why the campaign emphasises SEEING. But hey, read what you want into it to suit the old-man rant.

Bosco and a few others want to take the critical incident approach and apply the actions of a few to the masses. What's next, heavy metal music and rap music?

I ride year-round (when possible) and generally commute at least 3 days a week, usually on the Kennedy, Tri-State or 1-88. Have I seen riders utilizing the breakdown lane to avoid traffic? Rarely, but I also see cars doing the same thing and abusing lanes for their own selfish purpose. I am far from an aggressive rider and I change lanes way more on my bike than in my car. Why? You have to ride like you are invisible out there and that means staying out of blind spots, and changing position within a lane or changing lanes is the proper way to do. It's also done to minimize the effects of road debris, passing vehicles, and wind. I probably miss a hooligan biker or two out there because I'm so busy watching out for all the cagers talking/texting while driving.

If I rode on Lake Shore on Fri/Sat nights or spent time in the suburbs on weekends, I'm sure I'd see more of the DB behavior.

If you want to DB a motorcycle initiative, start with the lazy and selfish "LOUD PIPES SAVES LIVES."

I look around for traffic, if you are in a car or a motorcycle I will avoid hitting you. If you are doing 95 mph and swerve into my blind spot.... sorry pal, hope you survive.

There are idiot auto drivers, idiot bikers, and idiot truckers. I see a lot more assholes in cars than I do on bikes, but the biggest difference seems to be with the bikers is that they are making a lot more high risk/dangerous maneuvers. 98% of these (that I see anyway) don't wear helmets which tells you a lot about how smart they really are.


Edit- I meant 98% of the bikers driving like idiots don't wear helmets, not 98% of bikers in general.

It's not a strawman. Motorcycle drivers love to make it seem like car drivers are driving unsafely and it leads to dangerous situations. You even did by bringing up "talking/texting". In reality, it turns out that at least for those who get in fatal accidents, the motorcyclist is more likely to be drunk, speeding, and unlicensed than a "cager".

I asked because many, in this thread, and in other threads about this, have made it seem like car drivers are dangerous on the road. You did too, in multiple ways. You've spent much of this thread discounting just how "unsafe" motorcycle drivers are.
Of course it is, but that doesn't mean all car drivers are unsafe or that the average car driver is more unsafe. That's why I pointed out that motorcyclists are more likely to be drunk, speeding, or unlicensed at the time of a fatal crash than a car driver is.

Sorry, I never discounted how unsafe motorcycle riders are, I addressed the stereotype discussion. Revving a bike at 5am is not unsafe or dangerous, it's just not being a very good person.
