Hit both clubs. Ask Golfsmith for a week demo. Play a round with both. Then make your decision.

yea, stopped by GS today and they told me I have 30 days to try out the club which is great. Gives me plenty of time to see if I can hit it. I'll take it with me to Orlando next week where I'll be playing at least 6 rounds of golf, that should give me plenty of feedback.

Hey Ugie, any tips on hitting a successful draw off the tee? I just started trying and all I can do is duck hook it which is still pretty cool since I've never been able to make the ball go left in my life, but duck hooking drives that travel 180 yards isn't really a shot I am dying to add to my arsenal lol. The way I do it now is I put the ball back in my stance to a little in front of the middle, move my right foot a good foot length outside of my left so I'm pretty much aiming dead right with my body and then I bring the swing way inside on the back swing and then turn the head over on impact. result most of the time is a ball that goes about 20 yards high and out to the right before making a sharp left turn.

I can't answer for Ugie, but it is really hard to tell somebody how to hit a shot without seeing their swing. Depending on your swing it may be damn near impossible for you to hit a consistent draw, it might always be a duck hook.

I can tell anybody how to hit a shot.

Swing and get the ball as close to the pin as you can.

I had been thinking of getting new clubs, but I figure I need to be hitting the ball better and work on my swing before I shell out hundreds for new equipment.

As luck would have it, my buddy (who regularly shoots low 70's) gave my his 2 year old set of Cleveland irons. When I do put a good swing on them, I hit them really well.

If your buddy hits in the low 70s there's a good chance he gave you a set of blades. That might be too much club for you (or me for that matter) to handle. They are great for low handicappers who work the ball, but they aren't very forgiving or designed for the mid handicapper.

Got my e-mail from Augusta National Golf Club letting me know the website is open to request tickets for
next years tournament. I am supposed to be going next year with some buddies no matter what but
winning the right to buy some tickets would be a nice bonus.

Got a tee time this saturday at Balmoral Woods. Anyone ever played it? I hear its pretty nice. Might get rained out, but trying to be optomistic. Looking more and more like tomorrow might be the last good day till next week, I think I'm gonna have to punch out early and get in a round.

By no means am I a teaching pro -- so take my advice with a grain of salt -- but the "secret" to hitting a draw (or fade) is all in your swing path and club face at impact.

For a right handed player, an inside-to-out swing path generates the sidespin on your golf ball needed to hit a draw (right-to-left shot). If you've played baseball in your youth, think of taking the club back toward the left knee of the catcher behind home plate. This will encourage an inside swing path.

During your follow-through, focus on extending your arms out toward right field. This encourages the "outside" portion of the swing path necessary to hit a draw. As long as your clubface is square and your swing path is inside-to-out, you should create a draw.

Now, Jack Nicklaus would teach you that you can hit a draw by closing your stance and using your normal golf swing to generate the sidespin. This is obviously true because, again, you are creating an inside-to-out swing path.

This is a decent video explaining how to hit a draw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiCPYi0e6lE

Played my old home course today, Deerfield. 42-45 = 87. Was +1 after 6 and then walked up the hole I aced 28 years ago and promptly scored a triple bogey. Followed that up with another triple before getting a birdie on 9. Had a second birdie on the back where I rolled in a downhill 35 footer sidewinder from the thick fringe.

Tried out the new driver with poor results. Hit 1/5 fairways. On the other hand, hit 8/9 with my 3 wood. When I do hit a drive straight it goes about 250. My 3 wood goes 225. So is the extra 25 yards really worth the risk considering the difference in fairway %? I would say no way. I think I'm going to leave the driver in the bag the next round and see how I do, I bet my scores improve pretty significantly.

Weather looks like shit starting tomorow through the weekend. Hoping to get in one more round or one more range session before leaving for my big golf trip to Orlando next Wednesday.

Played Fresh Meadows yesterday and went for 45-51 for a friggen 96. Worse of all, my shank came back in full force. Even hit a moving car on the other side of a fence on one par 3.

Went to the range today and shanked about 90% of my shots. No fucking clue what has happened. And I'm leaving Wednesday for a 5 day golf trip in Orlando. I'm seriously considering canceling my trip.

Shakes, this might not work for you, but I shank occasionally with a pitching wedge. I turn my right hand under on the grip and that will take care of it. FWIW.

Even 90 on Saturday at RIver Oaks. The course wasn't in the best of shape and the greens had been aerated maybe 10 days ago so that kinda sucked. Still though, was solid with the irons and only had three 3putts on the day which is HUGE for me. Shot 46 on the front 9 and that was with taking a 9 on a difficult par 5. Really happy with the way I've played the last 27 holes or so. If I can break 90 consistently, I'll be happy.

87/86 over the weekend at Chevy Chase in Wheeling. Course is in fantastic shape, especially the greens and bunkers. Happy with my short game and driving - ballstriking still suspect. Struggling with my new (to me) irons - irons feel a tad short and light to me. Need to figure this out.

Gonna be 80 degrees today, so time to hit Winnetka Golf Club this afternoon. Plus, it's being paid for by a builder due to my recommendation of him to a customer, who is now having him build their new house. He's supposed to be a pretty good golfer as well, so it should be a fun and fast round. Cohibas will be employed too, as I got a new box on Saturday. Why can't every day be just this good....

Yep. If I was handed a business that I didn't have to work to build, I would golf today too. Then again, I'm not a lucky sperm club member and actually have to work for what I have.

I'm working today. We don't tee off till 3pm. I'll work at least till lunch time.....maybe 1:00pm, then have lunch and hit a few range balls before the round. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Gotta take advantage of opportunities to enjoy life when possible.

Thank you. I certainly intend to do just that. But you really know nothing about my business when you make such remarks. My customer base was developed entirely by me over the years. My Father did business mostly in Chicago and Oak Park. I made contacts with interior designers, Home builders and people who are in charge of the wallpapering sections of wallpapering retail stores...all in the North Shore area. At least 80% of my business is done today in the Winnetka, Wilmette, Glencoe and Kenilworth area. I do very little work in Chicago these days and when I do, it's in Lincoln Park. I just did a job on Dayton last week in Lincoln Park and it was the first job in the city in many months. I hate the traffic and parking and made the effort about 15 years ago to make a move away from the city and up into the north shore. It was a good decision. Plus, it's a lot easier to get in a round of golf after work in the burbs. Twilight golf is a beautiful thing.

Tomorrow night on Chicago Fire actually. I am a commanding officer (Sgt.) in a scene in roll call at the police station. I am next to the primary actor addressing the other officers at roll call. Not sure if the 1 line I had will be used in the scene or not. But the guy (he was the tall black guy in Curb Your Enthusiasm) at the podium and I interact in the scene and you will see me very clearly.I am just to his right in the scene. This episode sets up (as does the one that follows) a spin-off from Chicago Fire that will be titled Chicago P.D. I am going to have good opportunities on that series now as well.

Went for a lesson this morning with an old high school buddy who is the golf pro at Willow Hill. Was concerned with my shank suddenly returning and also wanted help with my slice off the tee. He totally changed the way I think about a golf swing, it was really eye opening. I always thought that in order to correct the shank I need to turn my hands over quicker and close the face, but as he said all that does is overcompensate and cause a lot of hits off the hozzle.

What he had me do was stop transfering my weight during the swing and instead keep my weight on the toe of my front foot throughout the swing. Also, had me line up further from the ball and line it up on the toe of my club on address. It worked wonders. The weight transfer from back to front was causing me to open the face of the club. Keeping the weight on the front foot and addressing the ball with the toe was helping a lot and my shank disappeared.

then we moved onto the driver and in 5 minutes he had me hitting perfect draws. I always thought that the key to a draw was coming inside out with the swing and closing the stance. He said that was wrong and instead had work on bringing my hands through the swing quicker than my body turn and doing a full follow through on the hands turning over. I still kept the weight on the front foot and still kept the ball up in the front of my stance. Changed my shouders at address so they were turned more towards the back (hard to explain) and it worked wonders.

Can't wait to get back out to the range this afternoon and get some more practice in. Big trip tomorrow to Florida!

Hopefully the weather stays great here as well so you guys can get in some golf!

I'm glad someone is paying for your round cause that place is about as big a rip off as you can find in the Chicago area. Pretty much all the northshore muni's are rip offs, but Winnetka is the worst.
