Why don't you just call in to Sports and Torts and ask?

Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

You will owe no tax if you receive an inheritance of $50,000. The estate from which you are inheriting the money may have to pay estate tax before they give you your inheritance, but that tax typically comes into play only with large estates valued in the millions of dollars

It's not.

Short story.

We were driving home 5 years ago and happened upon an elderly gentleman in the rain who was lost. She had me stop, and we brought him home. He had been visiting his wife who died two weeks later.

We helped him out until my folks and her mother ended up in the hospital a couple of years ago. We got some neighbors involved and they took over from there. We would visit him when he ended up in a nursing home. He passed away in April. At that time we found out that he chanegd his name, and that has parents were imprisond by the Nazi's in 1935.

He was smuggled out of the country and was adopted by a British man, and a German woman from Liverpool. He served with distinction for the British Army in WWII. And changed his name when he came here in 1949.

This Saturday a big envelope comes from a lawyer with some paperwork to sign off on. We were both stunned.

It was my wife.

He was a really cool guy though. And I knew all along that the story he told us had some holes in it, but I actually thought that we might find out that he as a Nazi.

That's pretty awesome. You shouldn't have to pay any taxes if it's in a Trust. I didn't have to for my inheritance last October.
you'll just have to file a 1040-K1 (i think) document with your taxes next year.

Ask Frank, I am sure he is well versed on the tax laws! I mean he seems like a sharp cookie!

But the smart question would be if the inheritance skipped a generation or not.

That's some weird chronology there.

He and his wife had no children or relatives in the States that we were able to find when we helped him. The neighbors and lawyer have not been able to locate anyone either.
