CAHOKIA • A Cahokia High School assistant teacher and coach has been charged with having sexual contact with a teenage boy and transmission of HIV.

Mario L. Hunt, 35, of the 1900 block of Florence Street in Cahokia, was charged in St. Clair County on Monday with criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse transmission of HIV. The offenses happened with a 17-year-old boy during the first six months of 2011.

Cahokia School District Superintendent Art Ryan said that, a couple weeks ago, a parent complained to the school that Hunt was inappropriately communicating with her son via text and Facebook. The district was investigating the parent's complaint when police came to the school and asked to interview Hunt. Hunt has been suspended since that police interview.

Ryan said he didn't know if the charges involved the student mentioned in the parent's complaint. Ryan also said he didn't know for sure if the victim in this case was a student.

The charges say Hunt "held a position of trust, authority or supervision" in relation to the victim.

Ryan said Hunt was an assistant track coach and also worked to help train the football and basketball teams. He had worked with the district for six years.

His bail was set at $300,000.

The problem I have with the teaching profession in these cases is that they try to play this off as "one bad apple" when you fucking know that at least one and in all likelihood multiple licensed educators/teachers were cognizant of this bad apple's behavior...and those other teachers said/did nothing.

The guy jerkin in at the podium in the NW burbs, the spoons and blindfolds and cockroaches and cum guy out in Cali...Jerry Fucking Sandusky....other educators were undoubtedly well-aware of these individuals and their malfeasant conduct and, as far as anyone knows, the other teachers did nothing.

Also, its not vilified enough. Almost every show about a high school has a budding romance between a student and faculty and while they might not go through with it, its presented as a lovely romance.
