I'm an open minded guy. I've watched an episode or two in my lifetime. Not my cup of tea. But this idiot's got a track record for saying bigoted, Stone Age shit.

I also don't have to watch all the Police Academy sequels to know that they're fucking garbage.

I think maybe you guys are confused about why a person would go to ***. Having an affair doesn't send you to *** any more than any other sin. Yes, it is much worse than your low level sins. But the point of Christianity is that man is separated from God and headed for *** without a Savior whether a person has an affair or not. God's plan is to exchange your sins (small and large) and the consequences of your sins (physical death) now and (damnation) in the life to come for eternal life that comes through the forgiveness found in the death of Jesus Christ.

That's why in the eyes of Christianity a guy like John Gotti can receive last rights and get his ticket to Heaven. I don't have much use for organized religion. I'm of the spiritual variety. As the old adage goes: Relgion is for people who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for people that have been there.

I don't knock your beliefs one iota though. Live and let live.

The hell part was tongue in cheek. And I'm not confused. I don't believe anything you just typed.

I actually like your sports thoughts. Can you stick to those?

The last rights thing is a Catholic thing about having to have a priest come do a last confession before you die. I know it bothers some people that people who they consider to be very bad could find salvation on their deathbed, but there was a thief on the cross who was promised heaven for believing in Jesus. The Good News is that as long as you're breathing there's always a chance for salvation. But there are plenty of people who die too soon before they receive Christ and they just kept putting it off because they figured they could always just do it tomorrow.

This whole discussion of Pat Roberson and other news topics is not really news if you think about it. Our society's news is most just sensationalist gossip with reaction coming from people on Twitter and social media airing their opinions on what the latest celebrity said. It really has no context in terms of why this celebrity gossip item or statement should be considered news.

The reason why people don't like Pat Robertson is that he's old school. He's over 80 years old, he's not politically correct and being an Evangelical Christian he holds a lot of opinions that are contrary to the standard liberal media mindset. Why people hate him more than Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson or some of the other left wing wackos is beyond me.

I don't think anyone with a brain really hates him any more than the other ones you mentioned.

They're all self-serving, hateful douchebags.

Hate is a strong word. I don't hate anybody. But when you say shit like Hurricane Katrina happened because God is mad at gays, I find a hard time not lumping him in with hate mongers like Farrakhan.

My grandma was old school too. Called African Americans "colored" til the day she died. Doesn't make her right.

People have this mindset that everyone is good and only good people go to heaven. So if you don't kill anyone or do anything like super bad you can go to heaven. Some religions suggest taking pilgrimages or praying several times a day facing East and that's how you find salvation.

The problem with that mindset is that who decides whether someone is good? My standard of good may be better than yours or vice versa. One person may be better than another, but you always look good if you can find someone who is a little worse than you to compare yourself with.

What Christianity says is that all of mankind is sinful. Even children have to be taught to share and mind their manners. Even the nicest people do things that are evil. But the secular world only refers to Evil as terrorist attacks or mass murders. It doesn't take into account lying to your kids, your spouse or the government.

The reality of mankind is being evil we are all going to die. Every last one of us. God's standard is perfection that mankind is incapable of achieving on this Earth. So rather than send all of us to *** God put his one and only Son on the cross to be sacrificed for the sins of humanity. Anyone who believes in his Son is granted forgiveness and heaven. Those who don't receive death, *** and eternal damnation because as Jesus said, "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them."

The opinions of Pat Robertson have nothing to do with political correctness in this instance. And the core problem in his case is the fact that being an Evangelical and claiming to "be Saved", he falsely believes that he does not sin anymore and therefore pathetic comments like this are correct for that reason.

It's news when a man that claims to speak for thousands of Evangelicals, many of whom are women, has;

a) tried to give men a free pass for behavior that is decidely unchristian and unacceptable
b) tries to shame women into accepting accountability for sins that are not their own
c) makes a cruel joke about a woman to try and prove an unsustainable point.

It's ok to stand up and call him out MD for his behavior. I understand why that may be a problem for you, but your defense of what he did is an atomic hit to any credibility you may have left here.

It's tough at times to speak truth to power. If you can't, then please don't try and defend this kind of crap.

I don't think anyone who is Evangelical honestly believes that he/she has stopped sinning since becoming a born-again Christian. If anything becoming a Christian makes you more aware of your own sinful nature.

1 John 1:8-10 wrote:
"8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us."

The whole reason why Jesus died is because everyone, including Christians, is incapable of living a sinless life. The difference is that when you confess your sins you can receive God's forgiveness and grace. Honestly, there are plenty of Christians who continue to commit the same sins more than once. But God doesn't send his followers to hell or disqualify them from receiving grace when they make mistakes. He offers his grace and forgiveness if you confess your sins. A part of that is turning from them as well even though in some cases that is a long process, such as in the case of an addiction.

I don't think Pat is guilty of any sin on this one. At worst it may be insensitive to some and a bad piece of advice. It's not nearly as bad as advising someone to get an abortion or to cheat on your wife, but to not get caught. There are plenty of people who give those last two bits of advice on a regular basis and they have no DBOTW nominations.

Because "The 700 Club" isn't like other shows.

It's part of the deal when ABC's parent company The Walt Disney Company acquired the channel in 2001 from FOX's parent News Corporation (the former FOX Family) & Robertson's company International Family Entertainment (the former CBN/Family Channel). It's a very tricky subject just trying to explain.

Pat Robertson founded the Family channel network. He sold the network to News Corp and they sold it to ABC. As part of their agreement the show is featured 3 times a day.

People always react negatives to something Pat says on the show and blow it out of context and proportion. I would encourage any detractors to sit down and watch the show rather than just spouting off about something he said in a clip.

Are you seriously defending this fucktard!?!

No, I'm not defending Pat Robertson and his idiotic stance. Unfortunately, ABC Family can't just pull the plug on Robertson's show. It's beyond my control, and I've tried awfully hard to explain why "The 700 Club" isn't going anywhere despite Pat continuing to put his foot in his mouth.
