It's not so absurd when you've been through Glen Hobbie, Dick Drott, Moe Drabowsky, Karl Pagel, Ozzie Rosinski, Ty Griffin, Felix Pie, Kevin Orie, Corey Patterson, Gary Scott, and on and on and on. Maybe in 20 years you'll scoff at some 25 year old dude blowing his load over Anthony Rizzo Jr.

Ive been through half of those guys. Ive also seen Greg Maddux, Mark Grace, Ryne Sandberg, Raffy Palmeiro, Carlos Zambrano, and your guy Shawon Dunston

And again, no one is blowing their load over anyone. I dont know why you keep trying to put that on me.

Bernstein's and e-mailer/caller butt buddies' Theo worship has tainted JORR into thinking every Cubs fan excluding pasta has the same exact thoughts. Is what it is.

Man, with the exception of Felix Pie and perhaps Corey Patterson, those all sound like guys you could find at the union hall. Maybe that's why the Cubs haven't won a World Series in over a hundred years. They need to start drafting guys with more baseball-y names, like Duke Goodwin, Ted Cooper, and/or Pud Galvin.

Well, thanks to those goofy-ass Dominicans, "baseball names" are now things like "Anderson Sanchez" or "Gustavson Escobar" or "Jorgenson Rios." For some reason, their Big Book Of Baby Names is the Minneapolis white pages.

My favorites of all time are Oil Can Boyd and Mordecai Three-Finger Brown.

You could build an awesome All-Time vs. Present All-Star Game with hockey names. We should try it for baseball, too.

But regardless, to simply dismiss the entire idea that the system might be improving is dumb.

I haven't heard anyone suggest the system wasn't getting better. If there are shows from 1-6 every day that talk about how much worse things are, let me know about them.

It seems you and Jimmy are pretty much saying it isnt and even if it is, it doesnt matter.

I dont get the vilification of daring to build from the ground up organizational wise. When Hendry was here that's all people wanted.

Now that its time to take the lumps, they want shitty veterans.

I was a complete fan of Jim Hendry. And that was taking into account his Soriano and Bradley signings. I liked the Cubs back then, the way they made decisions...they signed talent at any price. I'm not opposed to building the minor league system further...I just want to be the Yankees for six to seven years.

JORR,Right on! :P

One more time with feeling: I'm fine with a rebuild but I did say this at the beginning of last season. The timing sucks! Another playoff team was added by MLB and NOW you throw in the towel? You want a rebuild but you look at your farm system and have no one that can play 3rd for the next 3 seasons,go get a 3rd basemen. I just used that as an example of what I am saying. Try to win, don't throw in the towel and concede seasons because you have a grand master plan. That is bullshit. They know it too, that is why suddenly this year an attempt was maded for some vets to come to the club. Last year,we just watched Stewart at 3rd play everyday because it didn't matter. I say it matters every game, every inning!

No show thread today so might as well bump this one. Show is the same theme. Paraphrasing:

Bernstein wrote:
Theo's too smart to give a 29-year-old pitcher a big money long term contract

He's worse than an Iowa grandma Cubs fan. Theo can do no wrong.

Cubs lose out on Sanchez
But bidding for highly regarded starter proves they will spend big on top free agents who fit plan
December 14, 2012|By Paul Sullivan, Chicago Tribune reporter

1234
The Cubs went down swinging on Anibal Sanchez, increasing their offer slightly Friday but still falling short of the $80 million, five-year deal the starter got to return to the Tigers.

The optimism of Thursday afternoon evolved into a gloomy reality that evening when it became apparent the Cubs' pitch for one of the more coveted starters on the free agent market was likely to fall short.

Would have been 29 when this season began....

The Theo talk today has been pretty bad but the worst thing I've heard today was with Kasper:

Quote:
Cubs fans need to realize this is a slow process. The rebuilding of the Cubs is like the building of a business. We aren't so much as watching and analyzing sports as much as the building of a business. Businesses such as Boeing GE and other multi-nationals for which people are paid to cover.

Unfortunately Kasper agreed with Dan.

The Indians have been an unmitigated disaster forever, but danny had to throw a bouquet at the Really Smart (Read: Jewish) Guy that is Mark Shapiro.

Pretty sure that's all it's ever really been about. John McDonough and Stan Bowman aren't Really Smart People, yet it was they far more than the Cubs' brass who were charged with "building a business from scratch," and not only did they build it, they won with it, tore part of it down, rebuilt it, and won again.

It's pretty irresponsible to declare every Jewish sports executive to be Really Smart, even in the absence of--or in some cases in spite of--results, but then it's also irresponsible to declare every tall black guy to be a stud who should breed, and Dan does that too, so...

Maybe I'm alone on this, but it's nice to hear Bernstein have someone he actually likes. No one knows for sure whether the Cubs can win a world series, but it's obvious this guy and his management team are going to try to stockpile every young player they can get.

in all fairness, John and Stan have yet to accomplish one thing...make the Blackhawks profitable. I have no doubt Theo can monetize the Cubs even better than they have been.
