With this being my 2000th post, I wanted to post a huge rant on a number of White Sox topics. What fueled my fire this morning was a report on ESPN that the Angels are 'extremely interested' in Paul Konerko. I started a post on this yesterday and ran out of time so I deleted it. Here goes nothing:

Here are the things I would do if I was Kenny Williams

1. Do NOT trade Paul Konerko - He is the face of the franchise. The only way you even consider moving him is you get a MLB ready 1B and fill another hole you have. So for instance to the Angels for Kotchman and Kendrick or Wiltis (this wont happen).

2. Trade the following players: Iguchi, Contreras, one of the relievers (MacDougal most likely). As for Iguchi, if you move him, bring up Richar and see what he can do at the big club. Contreras needs to go while his FB is still near 90. Pay some salary this year and take a lower level prospect for him.

3. Do not trade the following players: Garland or Vasquez - You can never have enough quality starting pitchers and you have a top 3 worthy of top of the league status with Buerhle.

4. Give an extended tryout to Gavin Floyd. If he's going to be a rotation guy next eyar, he needs to prove his value this year.

5. Get Josh Fields some time in LF this year. If Crede is back next year, I still want to see Fields every day in the lineup.

6. When you can expand the roster, give these guys a chance to play:Oneli Perez, Danny Richar, Jerry Owens (he's here and playing already), Carlos Vasquez.

7. Save some pennies for Aaron Rowand because he has the fire and the passion!

I think they can reload versus rebuild at this point. It just happened to be a down year for everyone.

I agree short stop is an area that needs work. I don't foresee them being able to address it right now via trade. It's not like Seatlle is going to part with Matt Tuiasosopo for Jermaine Dye. I saw someone mention Aybar - I don't see parting with a top 50 propspect for a rent-a-player.

Looking at next year's free agents, the best of the bunch is David Eckstein but I'm guessing at his age, he'll be commanding more than he is worth. Omar Vizquel is a stop gap, but you have to figure out where you go from there without a top propspect on the horizion.

I wonder what the chances are of prying Michael Young away from the perpetually pitching-bereft Rangers.

Look at it from the other side. He's a top SS in the American League, still hits around 300. His OPS is down this year and he turns 31 after the season. You'd probably still be looking at a hefty price tag for him.

If I am looking at Texas, I might think about Ian Kinsler and slide him back to short. He's 25 OPS of 786 and could get 20-20 this year.

I agree with Frank and Bruce. Hopefully that will happen after Dye gets dealt.

Why all the love for Sweeney? From his earlier stretch, I didn't see a ton that impressed me. He doesn't seem to have alot of power, speed.

The Rockies don't want retreads though. They are a young ballclub and I'd think they'd want to stay that way.

They'd better sign Garland this off-season then....
