I'm a character that has sympathy. And empathy too.

And MD, blaming and shaming women for the actions of men has led to some of the social ills you so often denounce.

I'm not blaming women because their husbands cheated and I don't think Pat Robertson was either. Although that seems to be the conclusion that a lot of people have jumped to. There are super attractive Hollywood actresses that have cheating husbands because the guys are sex addicts and the most attractive wife in the world will never be enough for those guys. The larger point is that you should nurture your relationship with your spouse so that you have a good marriage.

“he cheated on you, well, he’s a man.” Robertson continued, explaining that women are responsible for keeping their husbands happy at home. He points out that women need to “make a home so wonderful that he doesn’t want to wander.

The strong implication here is that the woman is at fault. And it is also present in the joke he told.

The larger point is that Pat Robertson selectively uses the bible to advance his mysoginistic attitudes toward women. And after a life long track record of running his mouth and saying ignorant things, (God personally told him that Romney would win) he should know better and stop doing it.

If you watch the clip at no point did Pat reference the Bible at all. This was Pat's personal life advice.

Pat's personal life advice is based upon his faith. And his attitudes toward women are a misrepresentation of what the Bible teaches.

Being unable or unwilling to point out the mistakes of others is one of the biggest issues that society has with Christianity. And rightfully so.

Btw, when Romney didn't win, did you think that God was a liar, or that Pat Robertson just misunderstood what God told him?

Are you serious?? You think the husbands of super attractive wives (actresses or not) cheat because they are sex addicts? No, they cheat because after looking at the same beautiful face and body over a period of years, that face & body are now just "normal" to you. you see it all the time. So another attractive face and body (maybe not even as attractive in reality) is very appealing, just because it's different. The guys who marry Hollywood actresses are usually other actors, producers, directors or similarly sucessful men who likely have large ego's and they decide to cheat.....because they can. Opportunities present themselves and they take advantage of them. It's just that simple. Is it wrong? Sure....but I think very few lack the ability to walk away from a fugly woman because they are addicted to sex and just need to have sex all the time. It's really hot ones they always seem to fall prey to. So that suggests a selective process, not a disease of any sort.

I disagree with point no. 1.

It's not that Christians are unwilling to point out mistakes, it's just that media and people like Dan Bernstein are so much better at it than Christians are. The Huffington Post is quick to point when the guy gives bad advice, but they don't focus on any of the positive things he's done such as his organization helping out during Hurricane Sandy. For the liberal people out there Martin Luther King, Jr. their hero repeatedly cheated on his wife despite being a minister who gave eloquent speeches about people being judged by the content of their character. The list goes on and the fact is that all men are fallen and many of them cheat on their wives.

I think it's clear that his prediction was wrong about Romney but it wouldn't be the first time a Christian person has given a wrong prediction they thought was right from the Lord. Sometimes it's not always clear where something you understand is God's message to you or something you've come up with on your own. We don't live in an Old Testament era where the people who give false prophecies are put to death. And what a minister or person on TV is not binding like one of God's promises in the Bible. Everything you hear from anyone has to be looked at in light of the Bible and seen whether it is true or false.

Maybe we should have a discussion about what a sex addict is and how cheating is related to sex addiction.

And what Pat Robertson said is wrong in the light of the Bible.

He blames the sin of man on women.

You might want to read the story of the Jewish elders trying to stone the woman caught in adultery. Or the Samaritan woman who met Our Lord at the well. Non judgemental, plain spoken about their mistakes and accepting of who they are.

You flipped that though. He said to make your home a place where a man wouldn't want to stray from. You turned that around and said it was the wife's fault that the guy cheated.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I'm sorry.

Isn't Robertson's approach more like that of the men who sought to condemn the woman caught in adultery?

Can you see the difference of how Christ handled the woman caught in adultery from the way Robertson handled the man that did?

I don't think he was condemning the wife because the guy cheated on her. The question was how can she forgive the cheating husband. The answer he gave was to essentially put the cheating in the past and focus on why you married the guy and try to have a good relationship. Obviously the critics disagree with how he worded what he said, but I don't think he means what they think he means.

Where the people responding to this went astray was saying that Pat intended to say that it was her fault or that he was somehow saying it's okay to cheat on your wife because men are fallen and have a tendency to cheat. I don't think he would honestly agree with either of those statements.

The problem with a cheating spouse is that you either have to divorce him/her or try to work through it. When you cheat on your spouse you are breaking a vow that you took before God, friends and family and that trust will likely never be earned back. Some women may be able to deal with a 1-time cheating incident, but what I find more disturbing is people like Hillary Clinton who know their husband has cheated multiple times and she doesn't get a divorce.

Can we all agree that the above discussions show why common sense is much more reasonable than a 2,000 year old document re-written numerous times by God knows who (pun intended)?

That being said, I do commend Seacrest for calling out a figure I wouldn't have figured he would call out. Kudos, brother.

Pat Robertson has earned a reputation for condemning people. That's his thing and it has been for years.

You find it disturbing that Hillary allowed Bill Clinton to walk all over her because she wanted something else form the relationship.

I find it disturbing that Robertson uses God as a reason to condemn others on a regualr basis because he knows that his followers that will keep sending him his 30 pieces of silver to insure that it continues.

You've officially jumped the shark on this one. Pat Robertson doesn't need people to send him money for his own personal gain. The 700 Club gives to a ministry called "Operation Blessing," which is a relief organization that operates in all 50 states and 105 countries. Maybe you should look them up.

People send Pat Robertson money. Lots of it.

Some send it because he tells him that "God told me Mitt would win." And I'm aware of his net worth.

Seacrest, you've come up with some big whoopers in this threads. My favorite was the one about Evangelicals no longer sinning after salvation. That one takes the cake I think.

Pat Robertson doesn't live the simple life of a proper preacher. He lives in a fucking mansion on top of a mountain. Pat Robertson is the very definition of "taking the Lord's name in vain".

MD,

Being a christian is hard. Talking about it is pretty easy. And lucrative too for guys like Pat Robertson. Christ came in to the world with nothing to call his own on earth. And He left with the same amouunt of wealth He brought.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her;

That's the job of man that is married. You have had five pages to quote it, but like Robertson, you try and put the onus on the woman, and by doing so you appear to absolve his ignorance in the process. This is one of the main reasons that people dislike christians. It's a do as as I say, (And I'll choose what parts of the Bible to quote) not as I do mentality. And when called on it like Robertson has been, people defend his mysoginy.

And when called on it like Robertson has been, people defend his mysoginy.

I've tried to let this go, but I can no longer allow you to use the word "misogyny" if you cannot spell it.

Perhaps people who can't pass the bar exam shouldn't take their legalistic attitudes about God to the pulpit.

People who are unable to articulate what marriage should be, are better off not preaching to others about what it isn't.

The very behaviors you often decry here are a problem because christians haven't been very christian. And then these same christians excuse poor behavior in themselves and others while pointing fingers at others like you have repeatedly done in this thread.

May I suggest in closing that the work of changing the world is done first by changing the very attitudes that Pat Robertson so often displays. And that those attitudes are best changed by taking a long look at ourselves rather than first pointing out the mistakes of others.
