At least you're back pedaling from some of your original comments RR, so you must at least partially realize the ignorance contained within them.

I'm not taking anything personally. Ironically, you are. All I said was that based on your posts you want to watch the SSOL Suns or the Miami Heat. That's fine. Like you said, to each their own. But your original comments stated/strongly implied that Pops was just a figurehead in all this. I clearly demonstrated how wrong that was. You can't even argue your point about player development. So your last desperate gasp was to try to attack my age. Which is fine, but my dad is 57 and I'm pretty sure he would readily admit I know much more than he does about the NBA. Age doesn't always equate to wisdom, as you are demonstrating here.

Your whole point is that you didn't like watching them play. That's fine, but again, you are using that very silly reasoning to try to make an invalid correlation to Pops coaching ability. Here's some useful knowledge that you somehow failed to acquire during your decades of viewership: playing defense, making the extra pass, blocking post passes, running solid picks and backscreens are all signs of a very well coached team. Who did that better than Pops Spurs? The very fact that you consider that style of play antiquated makes me not value your opinion similarly to how you don't value mine given my age.

And by the way, RC Buford has been the GM of the Spurs for their last three title runs. Maybe if you were a bit younger you would know that.

I'll take your last post as a concession that I destroyed your player development argument.

Come on RR, why you gotta go here? You are better than this. So you gotta be old in order to know what is good basketball? Come on man.

The "alley oop" reference irritated the hell out of me. It'd be like me telling FF to go back to glorifying his "Hoosiers" movie style of play. If someone's going to attempt to be patronizing, you've gotta come better than that. But to your point, no, in my opinion you don't have to be old to know what is good basketball. You simply have to have perspective and an appreciation for how NBA play developed, ebbed and flowed, which I don't think he has.

Pop > Riley and Daly....Pop has won a ton of games and 4 titles with less talent than L.A. .or Detroit ...harder to get free agents down there. They all buy into his system cause it works.

Yes, sir.

Greg Popavich is a great coach for all times. He has the player development angle on lock down and can coach a team of aging veterans to the playoffs and maybe beyond....

Where would you currently rank Duncan out of active NBA players, without putting much thought into it? Top 30, maybe?

37th

Seems legit.

I've never heard someone call out a coach for being dependent on the 37th best player in the league for his success.

I was talking more about the whole career history of Duncan and the success with Pop.

Im not sure who made who there.

It's almost always safe to say the player made the coach great, although it's never that simple. Duncan would almost certainly be an all time great without Pop, and Pop would almost certainly not be considered an all time great if he never had Tim.

But I give Pop credit for alot of the other guys. Parker, Ginobli, Gary Neal, Danny Green, Leonard, Splitter, Blair. He's handled crazy ass Captain Jack better than any other coach, twice. He put in awful centers like Oberto and Elson around Duncan and they were productive players.

Seems to me that the Spurs organization, whomever you want to credit for this, is far and away the best player development organization in the NBA. Most casual NBA fans probably dont even know one player on the Spurs outside of Duncan, Parker, Ginobli, and they have the best record in the league again and Ginobli is like their 6th or 7th best player now even when healthy.

I think the spurs win the west this year, lose to Miami in 6.

Bad sports thought.

Spurs will go 16-0 in the playoffs this year. While resting players.

Yeah hard to argue with any of this, even from someone who does not like the Spurs. They are kind of the New England Patriots of the NBA. Great coach, all-time great player, and a great organization to build things around them.

While I do not think Pop would be seen in the same light if he never coached Duncan, he has proved enough over the years with guys who were no more than role players how good of of coach he is. Look at the game this year vs. the Heat when everyone sat out. That stuff does not happen by accident.

Gregg Popovich is the worst coach in the league.

You're right. That was more just another shot at Walt who constantly gave me shit for my early season Memphis love. I still think the Spurs will win the title but I expect this series to go 7.

I am pretty happy with how things are going with the West. I think either team is going to present challenges to the Heat and hopefully be enough to take them down.

Each team has a different approach. Memphis can play bully ball with their two big guys. But they don't have enough firepower to score 110 points. The Spurs on the other hand have more depth and they can go 10 deep on the bench and keep running guys at Wade and LeBron. Plus the Spurs can hit 3 pointers. You have to think the Spurs would make it a better series and their coach is probably a little better than the Memphis coach too.

That's also partly why I think a healthy OKC would've dispatched Memphis, but that convo is in a different thread.

I agree with MD here, although I don't know if the Spurs have enough to annoy James like Memphis and Chicago can. If Wade is hurting, I like the Spurs' chances.
