The one thing that liked about Chet was that He did not struggle to have a personality. That is something that I believe separates him from Holmes, Bernstein, or Speigel. Boers used to be interesting and so was McNeil but i believe that they are mailing it in at this point. Holmes thinks that being extra nerdy is interesting it is not. Bernstein with his vitriol towards callers has become boring. You know that he is going to yell whether the caller makes a valid point or not. Chet at least understood that if you were going to be in the entertainment business then it is important to be entertaining.

Add in Chevy mentions and that was why Chet lasted so long on the airwaves. He brought sponsors like Chevy and Coke wherever he went. His ratings were always abysmal, and who can forget his voice mail to Dan McNeil.

When he was finally cut loose from MVP, he was at like an 0.5. The voicemail he left danny was, " Good luck, welcome to a 0.8 share." At the end Mac said, "Chet would kill for an 0.8 share."

Chet brought sponsors who paid to have him on the air. Like GD mentioned, Coke was one, Chevy was the other.

I'm not an old geezer, so I don't remember Chet's glory days, but I thought the work he did on WMVP was awful.

I will say though that during the last day of Webio, his last show was hilarious. I'm pretty sure everyone on the show was bombed.

Can't remember what the ratings were for Coppock on Sports but the show was not as terrible as it is being protrayed. Chet had a better handle on Sports than a lot of the guys that are doing sports radio now. There were a few guys doing sports radio but it was mostly weekend stuff. Unlike the guys today he appeared to actually like sports. He did not come across as angry nor profess to be indifferent which is what you get from Boers and McNeil. He also did think he was above it all alas Bernstein. There are a lot of hacks doing sportradio these days. One of the reasons that I was excited about the launching of the score was Coppock though he was not involved. Finally you could talk non stop sports. What has occurred now is that you have a lot of no talent types talking sports and it is extremely difficult listen for me.

Maybe it was the competition. I would wake up on saturdays and play madden and listen to the radio. It was either Chet or some producer/wanna be radiohost like Finfer, Dickerson, OG, or De Falco.

I used to listen to Chet. I have nothing against him, I'm just saying what many in the industry have experienced.

Chet cost himself more than one or two jobs with his self importance.
