Question for the northerners:

Any of you ever played University Ridge and/or Hawks Landing in Madison? Looking for a new place to take the fellas this summer on our annual Wisconsin golf outing and have heard great things about UR, haven't heard much about Hawks Landing other than that they are close to each other and its a nice course.

We'll be in Green Lake, but I think Madison is only an hour to an hour and a half away so its doable. We did Erin Hills last year and the previous two years we made the trek out to Kohler for WS and BR. Was thinking Sentry World, but I read that its shut down for all of 2013.

Might try and do 36 in Madison in one day between UR and HL if its feasible.

I have never played either one, but I have friends that rave about University Ridge.

Been meaning to get to University Ridge for years but never made it. I drove by Sentry World last Thursday
and you are correct, it is ripped to shreds right now. Don't know anything about Hawks Landing. There is a
decent looking course just east of Madison on I-94 called The Oaks Golf Club but again never played there.
Lake Geneva has a pretty decent selection of courses between Geneva National, Grand Geneva and a newer
track called Hawk's View.

That Oaks Club looks nice, thanks.

Need to figure out how far Lake Geneva is from Green Lake to see if that's a possibility.

You ever played the Bull or the Bog? I think the Bull is up near Kohler (it says it is in Sheboygan Falls, I assume that's near Sheboygan??) and I think the Bog is just north of Milwaukee.

I have not played either but have heard great things about The Bull. It is a Nicklaus course I think and hosts
a number of big time state tournaments. Trying to think of other courses around Green Lake that you haven't
mentioned yet. The Dells has a few and is likely closer than Lake Geneva. Not sure if you hit this one last year but
Washington County in Hartford is nice although I haven't been there since it first opened about 12 years ago.

Played both the Bull and the Bog. The Bog was not in really good shape last summer, but usually is one of my favorite courses. The Bull is outstanding, can't go wrong here.

Yep, we played Washington County last year. Can't say enough good things about it. We're definitely playing it again this year on the day they fly in since its on the way from Milwaukee to Green Lake.

I would say that Washington County is the best bang for the buck of any course I've played in the past decade. I think it was around $50 and it looks and plays like a course that would cost around $100. It wasn't as nice as Erin Hills obviously, but it definitely wasn't $250 worse than Erin Hills.

Washington County is awesome, I don't know why I don't play there more often considering I live 20 minutes from the place.

I seem to remember hearing a lot of bad things about Settler's Hill.

The course had Ugie and I for lunch.

We have to play Shepherds Crook shakes. Really think you would like that one.

I agree. I'm sure I've played it before cause I have a logo ball from there, but it was at least 7 years ago. Who else lives up that way? Maybe we can get a 4some together some weekend?

I can play June 8th or 9th, just let me know.

Also, I am sure Keeping Score would be up for a meet up and some golf.

Doug plays a little golf but not sure if he would be up for it or not. I have a buddy who might be able
to help fill out a foursome if needed. Dr. Ken lives north of the city but not sure of his schedule or
desire to play next to a city dump.

June 8 works for me. Tbone? You good with that?

How about Furious Styles, he lives around Des Plaines which isn't that much of a hike. I'll email him and ask.

June 8th would work for me at this point. I may have some coupons or gift cards we could use to defray some
of the cost. I'm not sure about you guys but I would prefer to walk although it is a pretty hilly course.

Much like Paulie in Goodfellas, I don't walk for nobody.

After 7 spine surgeries my days of walking golf courses are over. That said, bouncing around in a cart isn't exactly a pleasurable experience, but its still less wear and tear than walking with a pullcart. Kinda sucks cause I think you play better when you walk since you have more time to think about your shot as you are walking up to it.

But if you want to walk that's fine with me, I'm more than happy to ride alongside in a cart at a very slow pace and chat.

Yeah that is cool. I don't care if others want to ride I just got a new push cart and prefer walking as usually play on
weekends is a bit slower anyhow so it doesn't do me much good to drive to my ball and sit there for 5 minutes.

So, I'll toss it out there..... anyone interested in filling out a foursome to play in Zion, IL next Saturday?
We will take discussions to PM from here on out but let myself, Hawg or shakes know if you would like to
join us to play. Hopefully the weather will work out.

I think June 8 works for me. I'd rather not drive all the way to the Wisconsin border, but maybe we can find something near O'hare/cultural mecca that would kinda be in the middle for most of us. Pencil me in for now. I can't commit 100% but I will try and keep the date open. Are we thinking morning, mid day, twilight?

Pretty sure Hawg lives 30 minutes or more NW of Milwaukee so this is kinda in the middle. This isn't for the
outing, just for a regular round next weekend. There is a separate outing thread.

I'm doubtful for 6/8. Went over the handlebars of my bicycle and landed squarely on both hands. 72 hours after my lowest round ever. Can't even hold a club, let alone swing one right now. Hopefully I'm just looking at serious bone bruises on each palm, the wrists themselves don't feel too bad.

I'll know more later today. So pissed. Think I'll stick to motorcycles...

:( Well, glad you only hurt your hands. Hopefully it will work out later in the season. Hope you have a

One thing that I have been saying all along, that is obviously true at this point, is that McIlroy's issues had nothing to do with switching from Titlest to Nike. The problem is in between his ears. Not everybody is as mentally tough as Tiger to handle the pressure of the spotlight.

Golf season is officially starting tomorrow for me I guess. Mother nature and other obstacles
have pretty much shot the spring season for me. Tomorrow I am buying a jumbo bucket of
balls at Pine Meadow ( about 200 balls ) and going to take my time and work on my game
from top to bottom. Range balls, chipping, sand shots, and putting for at least 2 - 3 hours.
Sunday I am teeing off at 6:15 rain or shine and as far as I know I am playing alone so if
there is no one out there I may just play two balls.
