First, it's painful radio.
Second, this is a guy that has obvious... difficulties. And these clowns are basically mocking a guy who has challenges.
It's not cool, it's not funny. I think it's just awful that they're so fucking childish that they're bringing this guy on and just humiliating him for their own shits and giggles.
It's really turning me off to these guys, who incidently are my favorite show.
But a huge who you crappin for Burn Stine who is so horrified by a silly racist comment by Garcia or who cannot abide the religous homophobia (especially by a balck guy! the HORROR! How he should KNOW BETTER!), but has no problem using the gay words all the time, the gay innuendo... and for all these things to openly mock a guy who is clearly handicapped... I just find it disgusting.

I totally disagree. I was in the car for that entire segment, and I was smiling the entire way. Not laughing, just smiling. First, I'd be willing to bet it's the highlight of his week. It's not Howard Stern, and they don't have Bob come in-studio and put a bikini on. He reviews a movie, and occasionally it's the one he's supposed to watch. There's a fair amount of time where he's allowed to ask about every Chicago sports team, and Mike North. If I thought it was mean spirited, it wouldn't be enjoyable. I'd probably turn off the radio.

I guess maybe I just don't get it. I'm not sure I'm offended by it like Darkside is, because it seems as if they may be in on the joke, especially Mike from Milwaukee. I just don't find some old crank rambling on incoherently to be particularly amusing. I did like Joe from Evanston more than the others though. Probably because he reminded me of the old black dudes from the hood that I knew growing up. Goff would try to big-time him but I always got the feeling that Joe felt like Jason was some sawed-off punk who was still wet behind the ears. Anyway, I can do without crazy old man radio and those segments are almost always PTFB time for me.

I've thought it has been offensive for while now. He is obviously "slow" in one way or another. I used to think it was actually nice of them to let his calls on the show. Then Tanny started playing drops of him which I thought was making fun, now this...just another reason to PTFB. Unfortunately, there are too many reasons to do so now. I'm not offended by it, but I also don't find it to be madcap hilarity like they apparently do. Mike in Milwaukee is just an idiot. I've known way too many people like that.(myself included) I don't need it on my radio. It's just two examples of how fat and lazy these two have gotten. I shouldn't be surprised though. They've made of living out of stumbling on something funny, and then proceeding to beat it to death. I thought Joe in Evanston was funny as hell, but that was 80% Jason's doing. I still listen. I'll admit that a lot of the time I do so specifically to come here and piss and moan. But I do that because I have loved this show for years, and hate to see it self immolate. They still have it in them to be comedy gold, so I'll never completely tune out, but I never thought I'd come to PTFB on them as much as I do.

I like Bob, I don't know his age or if he has any health problem, but I don't think he's being manipulated or humiliated. He might just be a goofy old guy, he might not be handicapped or in his 80's. I find him entertaining and I don't have a problem with it.

Do you think Dan would be ok with some old, addled uncle of his (say, in Nebraska) who was in a facility and called into a local sports hack show while the hosts/support staff cackled like hens at him? Would he consider the IMPORTANT. RADIO. ? Would he be ok with them working up an intro for the guy's confused calls, and letting him give out his FREAKING ADDRESS AND ROOM NUMBER on the air for the guys to "stop by" and pick up some of his Marx Bros movies?

It's stupid radio, and any sort of warm fuzzy you get from hearing them let a caller actually talk is quickly taken away by the fact that they're allowing an addled old man THAT LIVES IN A FACILITY call in and become a virtual drop machine for their pleasure.

The flip side to Very Important Radio, embiggened hypocrisy on display. Not even harmless fun, as there is little harmless about it and nothing funny. When not going ad nausem for days (weeks) about some little rant/cause tangentially related to current/local sports they'll give up a big chunk of an hour to laugh at somebody who the majority of the audience finds unlistenable at best.

What would really be funny is if said "Bob" was getting hammered with friends while awaiting the call from WSCR. "Get a load of these dumb fucks who keep calling me. Now shut up while I go into my act. Nobody talk, nobody fart, and don't bogard the joint while I'm on the phone."

But some other class of persons they (read: Danny) deem in need of protection are off limits. If they keep this up much longer I will be PTFB for good.
