I saw it Sunday afternoon and didn't like it. I know it's "just" a superhero movie but I thought the story was a tad...unfocused. I agree with good dolphin who said "The story really isn't very good and it isn't even presented very well." I was interested to see what they did with the Mandarin but like others thought it was silly and anticlimactic. One of things I like about superheroes is that they are usually (I'm guessing there have been exceptions in the comic book universe over the years) the only ones who can, at least sustainably and successfully, do what they do. Only Spider Man can do whatever a spider can, only Thor can use Mjölnir, etc. Now there are at least two people who can wear the suit and an army of robot suits. "Iron Man" is no longer one unique, incredible person. It's whoever he wants to put in the suit or however many remote controlled duplicates he wants to create.

That took all the fun, intrigue, and uniqueness out of it for me.

I thought one was awesome, two was good, and this one lost me.

In the Comic Book verse there are a ton of Ironman Clones. Tony himself designed a suit called Guardian that the guards at the US center wore that housed the bad guys. Then he got all pissed off that people stole his ideas and decided to do something about it. A hole story arc called:Armor Wars. He went and destroyed any tech of his that other people where using. It was the turning point in the Ironman verse in that it set Tony against entire governments.

good friend of mine pointed out something that's a fair criticism and he also didn't like IM3. he said, "why are all the superheroes turning into james bond?"

it does seem like with movies like the 2nd and 3rd batman movies and certainly with IM that it's more about the gadgets and gizmos than anything else. with IM, i thought he basically was supposed to be like a james bond, only not into spy games as much as just saving the world from super villains.

Well, I still don't like it. :)

Not really. Tony in the comics rarely ever does anything physical outside the suit for one very real and valid reason. His heart.

it's more or less the character attributes, and the fact that especially in IM3, he has all kinds of things at his disposal.

I thought it was great. My only thought was why in the hell would Captain America not be there to help with the kidnapping of a President. Isn't that part of his job description?

Not to get all political, but why does it seem like we can't have movies where middle east terrorists are actually middle east terrorists? I mean, they even had the useless scene of the Iron Patriot accidentally almost killing a bunch of women. We made movies all the time about the Russians when the Russians were trouble.

I'm really hoping there is an Iron Man 4. Given how much money it makes, I'm sure there will be.

Drew Pearce was asked that on Twitter, and he said that will all be explained. My guess to be honest, is that it will be addressed in the Shield TV show. Some rumors suggest Shield was shut down after redirecting the missile, etc. Doesn't explain CA though.

Was the type of surgery Tony had at the end of the movie to remove the piece of metal from his heart not possible when the accident originally happened?

No, he used the technology that the villain had created, only he fixed it so he wouldn't go "BOOM".

IM3 was pretty dumb. he did better without his bum-ass suit. every time something hit the suit it fell into a million pieces- what the fuck is that? at one point even the fire guy couldnt break into the suit because don chito was in it, then the next minute the suit falls apart because tony stewart was in it. fucking dumb. then smoke needs a 6 year old bastard child to fix the suit- must not be that high tech!

the avengers was a better sequel to ir2 then this movie was.

I think the suits were worse because of how many different ones he had been building since NY. The main suit (42 i think) wasnt even done. Big theme was how "distracted" he was, so I assumed that carried over to the quality of suits he made... Quickly moving on to another to address each new issue he thought he'd encounter.

Re: James Bond issue: 2 things, when it's only the suit, RDJ isn't needed as an actor. And 2, the main theme was "does the man make the suit, or the suit make the man?" It was about him re-discovering himself (the mechanic). That's why he did better without the suit, and why the ending had him taking the shrapnel out, and destroying the suits. "Tony Stark will return" was intentional too. Perhaps Jarvis is the basis for Ultron in Avengers 2, thus making Tony feel the need to rejoin the Avengers and bring back Iron Man. I'm sure he had at least 1 suit at Stark tower.
