Back in the day, (i.e. before the wife & kids) when it was new shirts & ties time, I'd always find the most fashion forward salesperson & ask him to pick out a couple of ties a little bit out of the box. Mock if you will, but each of their selections were enormous hits.

So what if you had to pay an extra $30-50. In the long run it was always worth it.

It's more about comfort for something you are going to be spending most of your waking hours wearing for decades. You don't have to look like a slob to be comfortable. Also, in my limited experience, the kinds of companies with strict dress codes have a different way of treating employees. If they won't even give you a benefit that doesn't cost them anything, what are they going to do with benefits that cost money?
When I'm the boss, that will be the dress code.

Im not talking about that. In fact a place with a strict dress code wouldnt fit becuase you HAVE to dress a certain way.

Im talking about the mail room guy who wears a nice button down shirt while his co workers wear whatever because there is no dress code.
