No guarantee?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah...I had to shirt and tie it at my old job for years...but surprisingly I have only ever really needed suits for weddings and job interview. Even my sit downs in this industry are usually polo / slacks. It is nice, for sure. But I've got another wedding coming up...and I've got some industry association stuff I'm trying to get my way into over the next 12 months or so.

You are a young guy. Some good advice I got when I was young was to dress for the position you want, not the one you currently hold.

The suit is meaningless. It's all about the shirt and tie. Nothing says "respect me" like a black button down with pink tie.

Honestly, what you want is timeless cut and material (top tier, Brooks Brothers, Armani, etc) and a good taylor who knows your dimensions

In your case from what you have described IMU, the MW and K&G suggestions are good.

I've had good luck with Macy's, not super discount, but you won't spend hours digging through the rack and it's still pretty reasonable.

I'm fairly certain all the places mentioned have tailoring.. with the exception of the discount stores

My Taylor was Sean :(

Even better advice is to do whatever you can to avoid working for places where wearing a suit would somehow matter in advancing.

I look forward to the day that suits are only for weddings, funerals, and legal proceedings.

No, im gonna say that's not better.

Its not just a suit. Sometimes it means just being presentable vs wearing pajama pants

"Don't dress like a slob" is significantly different advice.

Given your #fasttrack status, I'd suggest Syd Jerome. Or if the #fasttrack isn't exactly blazing right about now, perhaps wait until mid-late summer when they always have had big sales.

Back in the day, (i.e. before the wife & kids) when it was new shirts & ties time, I'd always find the most fashion forward salesperson & ask him to pick out a couple of ties a little bit out of the box. Mock if you will, but each of their selections were enormous hits.

So what if you had to pay an extra $30-50. In the long run it was always worth it.

You'd think so, but not really

Why, would you not dress like a slob?

Im sure part of the reason is you dont want your co workers to see you as a slob

Listen, you're never gonna be able to wear the Orton jersey in a corporate environment, so just forget about it.

It's more about comfort for something you are going to be spending most of your waking hours wearing for decades. You don't have to look like a slob to be comfortable. Also, in my limited experience, the kinds of companies with strict dress codes have a different way of treating employees. If they won't even give you a benefit that doesn't cost them anything, what are they going to do with benefits that cost money?

When I'm the boss, that will be the dress code.

Agreed on dress codes.

Im not talking about that. In fact a place with a strict dress code wouldnt fit becuase you HAVE to dress a certain way.

Im talking about the mail room guy who wears a nice button down shirt while his co workers wear whatever because there is no dress code.
