Dan Burn Stine would hate it. Most of us use it. I'd ask you if you were speaking French.

What say you CSFMB? Is it bad form to say "we" in reference to your team?

Well, it's worse than more accurately saying "they" but it's better than saying "I want to breed Brittney Griner."

If it is a real fan that has lived and died with their team that I do not mind it at all.

If it is a bandwagon fan then I cannot stand it.

mac has complained about it on air before, too. of course this is the same guy who says it's not only OK but enforces the rule that after 30, you replace the name of your favorite athlete on the respective team's jersey with your own. how in the everloving fuck can you complain about people who say "we" but promote putting your own name on the back of a jersey? i thought maybe he was being ironic but i don't think so.

saying "we" doesn't refer to the fact that you think you play on the team. it's the emotional bond you have with the team that you're expressing.

I think it's subjective to how much of an idiot the person is who uses it.

No. It's no dumber than spending hours posting on a message board about a team, or getting so worked up over a bad call that you are physically upset, or spending thousands of dollars a year on tickets, or choosing to watch a team for hours at a time rather than doing something more productive.

When you really look at it, the whole concept of sports fandom is irrational and pointless. Saying "we" is too, but only for the exact same reasons that the other things above are irrational and pointless.

I don't have an issue with it. Clearly the person using the term 'we' doesn't think that he's part of anything the team is doing on the field/ice/court etc. It's a term just to express some level of emotional commitment to the team.

The vast majority of people who hate it are moon dick fun police types that look for reasons to put down others.

I rarely hear diehards say it though. Just look at the board here. The vast majority of the time its "The Bears need this" or "The Sox offense sucks" or whatever. When its "we need a goal" or "we need an Oline" its usually one of the board asshats or newbies posting it.

That's interesting and it relates to the war the West is currently in vs. Islam. Nobody really wants to say it. They prefer to say "Islam is a religion of peace." Well, Germany was a nation of peace, except they let Hitler run the show. The Japanese are a peaceful people, but they allowed their representatives to attack Pearl Harbor. There is a collective "we". And we are the soldiers we send to fight our wars even if we're back in Chicago posting on message boards and drinking beer at Wrigley Field.

True; a person that actually gets pissy about "we" is the kind of asshole that counts how many beers they've had on a given night or weekend once they've passed the age of, oh, twenty.

I'll let one slip if I have been extra drinky and getting way too invested in the game. Most of the time I just give hard hitting analysis that often trumps anything the announcers are giving you.

This sums up how I feel.

The other thing Bernsie gets riled up about is when someone starts out a call saying, "I was at the game...". He immediately goes off on the caller saying, "It doesn't matter"

I don't really care either way but this is how I go about it. I spent my high school years going to pretty much every Hawks game watching the shitty A-B-C line suck balls as the Hawks reeled off loss after loss. I get to say "we". They're my team.

As a casual Bulls fan you'll never see me say "we" in reference to them.

Either way though, say "we", don't say "we". Doesn't matter to me.

I think B&B likely started with their angle on this thinking that meatballs really think they are part of the team and they have some effect on things et. Of course this gives them a chance to pounce.

I view it more like you are "we" not because of that but because you have invested so much emotion following a team that it naturally flows out. More of an expression rather than only a cold pronoun.

I also think that's interesting but I'm not sure I 100% agree. I think it's clear that the use of "we" is proper when referring to America, but the way your post reads it makes it sound like we are responding to evil out there. The executive branch of our government purposely bombs and murders women and children in the Middle East, specifically Pakistan. So yeah, it's fine to say WE are fighting the evils of Islam, just like its fair to say THEY are fighting the evils of America. It's just very unfortunate that millions of Muslims and Americans alike hate what they are associated with.

But at some point, we have to believe in something. That's the problem I have with multiculturalism. It assumes that all viewpoints are equal. And they aren't.

Nobody says America is perfect. But I would hate living in a world where any other nation had the power that America has enjoyed for the past 200 years. I certainly don't think they would wield that power as judiciously as America has. Of course, someone from Nagasaki might disagree with me.
