It's entirely subjective. When you say "we", you are associating yourself with the team. As long as you have the self-awareness to know that your association is strictly as a fan, then it's fine. But if you're a macho, resentful failed-athlete who thinks that if, not for that knee injury in high school, you'd be a stud pro athlete yourself, and you say things like "We need to kick their ASS tonight!!1!", then it's a problem.

Or conversely, if you're a poser. Someone who's seen two minutes of hockey in his entire life, who says on the day of Game 7, "dude, we really gotta win tonight, bro!", then it's also a problem.

Typical of B&B, their war against "we" started with those two groups, but has now broadened to include, well, everyone.

I don't have an issue with it. Clearly the person using the term 'we' doesn't think that he's part of anything the team is doing on the field/ice/court etc. It's a term just to express some level of emotional commitment to the team.

The vast majority of people who hate it are moon dick fun police types that look for reasons to put down others.

This sums up how I feel.

The other thing Bernsie gets riled up about is when someone starts out a call saying, "I was at the game...". He immediately goes off on the caller saying, "It doesn't matter"

Or the caller that says, "I've been a fan since 1965".
