http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/ ... -ballpark/Curtis Granderson has had some awful luck this season, being sidelined by two major injuries, but he’s still making a big impact this year.
According to the Associated Press the Yankees outfielder has agreed to donate $5 million to his alma mater, the University of Illinois-Chicago, to “pay for most of the cost a new baseball stadium.” Apparently the total cost of the 1,200-seat ballpark is $7 million and it’ll be called Curtis Granderson Stadium.
Granderson was drafted in the third round out of UIC in 2002 and has earned about $44 million during his career, so in addition to $5 million being a ton of money in general it’s a pretty big chunk of his lifetime earnings.
