Of course the Bears can't do anything. He's got at least 5 more strikes before he equals Brandon Marshall.

I understand but don't always agree with acquiring a talented player with some off the field issues, but has this guy shown any promise of being a decent player? What's the rule on acquiring bad players with off the field issues? Emery has to hope this guy succeeds more than his other picks just to save him from the embarrassment of drafting a trouble maker who can't play football.

I think NFL teams have to accept two things.
1) You are hypocritical if you only care about how terrible a human being is if they aren't performing.
2) You have to be hypocritical or another team will be and beat you.

I know it's the players association that won't allow it, but I'd love it if the NFL had a standardized set of rules for things like this. Take it out of the hands of the team and make it so they have no real reason to release them. 4 games for first DUI, 12 games for second DUI, 1.5 seasons for two DUI's. The guy gets punished, the teams don't have to be hypocrites. Seems like a win for all.

So, Kelly should not strive for integrity going forward?

I mean, what's he supposed to say

Paul George is a very good young player but Bernstein is elevating him to a platform he hasn't reached yet. He's still incredibly raw on the offensive end, he's not a dynamic scorer by any stretch of the imagination. His ball handling and mid range game need work and he needs to have much better shot selection. West is good, but he's old and on the downside and Hibbert is only a decent player who was able to dominate a team with no big men whatsoever. The Pacers are a good team but they're not as scary as Bernstein makes them out to be.

Agreed. I said similar things about West above, and George is not unstoppable, although I admit he may give Rose problems when George is guarding him.

long time guy wrote:
The Bulls series against the Heat was closer than remembered. Each game came down to the wire and Miami is a worst team this year. Bernstein's entire argument is based around the star players. If Wade and Bosh are no longer considered stars then Miami is a worst team. When is the OKC chicken going to come to roost. It is funny how people dismiss the Rose injury but not Westbrook. The Bulls had two all stars this year and won 45 games without Rose. They are a better team than Bernstein and some on this board give them credit. They are not in NBA hell and most on the national stage seem to think so also. I forgot the all knowing god Bernstein dismisses them (booyah network) He prefers to get his information from bloggers and non descript .com writers.

So this is all academic about Bulls-Heat 2011, but I don't think the series was close at all. Losing 1-4, including 4 in a row, is not close. The only game decided by five or less points was the elimination game. Including that game, the Heat outscored the Bulls by 32 in four wins. (http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2011/ma ... heat-bulls) But yes, both teams are different in 2013.

I don't think anyone is disputing that the Bulls could have been good with Rose, the question is are they good enough to get past Miami and make the Finals. Many on this board do think they can do that with a healthy squad. For now, I am going to differ because I don't think the Bulls have an adequate combination of self-reliant scorers.

The biggest liability that they had that year was a scoring guard that could not score. Bogans. I also believe that this year's bench was better and healthy bulls team would also have included a healthy rip hamilton/butler combination. The Bulls team that I am describing if not the favorite would at least have to be pick em. Bernstein totally dismisses it as do some on the board. I am beginning to believe that this whole thing is some sort of bit. As previously stated the people that I really listen to (The National Guys) to a man all believe that the Bulls are legitimade contenders. That is why the whole Bernstein critique is so laughable.

No one should give a shit what Dan Bernstein thinks about anything, especially basketball. I keep saying this but no one seems to want to listen.

I listened.

You are not alone, Kid.

If we shouldn't give a sh*t about what he thinks about anything what is the point of listening at all.

I only got as far as the first page and started laughing. Am I the only one here who thinks a healthy Rose is worth more than 4 wins?

Cof, wanna rerun our division bet again next season? Instead of avatar lets make it like $50 or $100. This offer is open to anyone else too, btw.

I'm just saying, people here tend to reference Bernstein's misguided opinions as though he's some sort of final authority on everything. He's not. He's just a guy with an opinion like everyone else here. I've never taken his opinion to heart, even when I was a fan of the show. I've only cared whether he and Terry could make me laugh and be entertaining.

yes, I would. I don't trust the Bulls to put together a good bench. I do trust Luol Deng to be due for a hobbling injury. I do trust Noah to have foot problems. I do trust Boozer to finally be injured for long stretches again as he has been off and on in his career. So yes, I'll do that, even while acknowledging the greatness of Derrick Rose.

$50? Large bets make large enemies. Besides, I just got done shelling out 6K for medical stuff in the fam.

And I just don't see the Spurs doing it. I'll be happily wrong. I see the Heat defending them well.

completely disagree with the sentiment. Just because his hands are tied financially doesn't make him an awful GM.

I wouldn't think $50 would be a huge amount for a Cubs season ticket holder, but I understand having a lot of bills for medical stuff. Avatar bet is fine. Anyone else on the board want to put actual money on the Pacers vs Bulls next season?

As for all this ridiculous NBA Hell/Bulls/Heat/LBJ/Durant talk - IF the Spurs beat the Heat in 5 or 6 games this year and it's not particularly competitive, will you guys finally start changing your mind about what it takes to win it all? Ill hang up and listen for my answer.

Well I said here many times I think Paxson is a really good GM. Whoever the Blackhawks GM is or Pax are easily the best in town. No other GM is close right now. But mainly I was shocked by his statement because Jim Paxson is Isiah Thomas-esque bad as a GM, from the one stint we have seen anyways.

Paxson was well on his way to ruining this team before May 2008.

Not even close. Gordon is one of the only players he has overdrafted. Deng has turned out to be a solid pick. Noah has turned out to be a really good pick(most people wanted Spencer Hawes). Kirk was ok enough his first go-around here.

A good case can be made that Paxson is the 2nd best drafting GM in the NBA right now, behind Sam Presti. His only weakness is not being aggressive enough on the trade front, but one bad blockbuster trade could easily undo all the work he's done the past six years. By being conservative and not selling the farm for KG or Kobe, he has built a team right now that should win 55-60 games a year for the forseeable future, and will most definitely not be in NBA Hell. He also hired who is now the 2nd best coach in the league(also hired Vinny but credit to him for firing Vinny even after making the playoffs two years in a row and then bringing in Thibs)

The excuse will be something stupid, like Popovich is the best coach in the history of athletic competition, and now we must stand in awe of him until November starts and LeBron is unbeatable once again.

Deacon Jones: Slow, weak, and black or one of the few guys who could play against today's superior athletes? It's so confusing!

Why doesn't this idiot bernstein just look at Buffone the next time he passes him in the hallway? He'll see a shrunken up and diminished 70 year old man who could still give him a fucking snuggie or helicopter him over his head like a child. And Doug wasn't even that great. He was just a good player. Fuckin' Deacon Jones was as big as Dan Hampton and faster. These two goofs are football retarded.
