I'm not sure how to feel about this quote. I'm no businessperson, but instead of "but try as we might, we couldn’t get enough of you to pay what it cost us to deliver it," shouldn't the phrase be something like "we failed to produce revenue because our material did not meet your standards at the point at which you'd buy what we had to offer ..."?

It sort of seems like he's blaming his readers for PFW having to close up shop, as opposed to taking responsibility or blaming the closing on the economic climate.

Yeah, I had a problem with that. Rather passive-aggressive for someone trying to get some sympathy.

Yeah, I agree. I listen to Hub's insight on the Bears and the NFL, so I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt. But if he truly feels the way I think he feels after reading that specific quote in the article, then his name belongs in the DB of the Week section.

You'd think someone who picked the Chiefs to go to the SB would have learned some humility and graciousness by now, but guess not.

the prices that they charged for that rag were obsene

half the staff was related to the hubster,

looks like Hub is going to have to try to get one of his kids the Tommy Tighe job

PFW didnt adapt and stayed in print well after the market conditions had changed, they should have tried to sell to a larger media company, maybe they tried, but either way they failed. I feel bad for the creditors they owe money to, good luck with that one

way to go there Hub

Should we keep pfw in our thoughts and prayers or just send money?

I'm sure Hub would appreciate donations of non-perishable food items & lightly used clothing.

This is sad new, but PFW is just another print rag that couldn't survive in the modern internet age. I used to love PFW back in the pre internet days.

Does this mean we are going to hear more or less of Hub on the radio?

I read this as nobody wanted to advertise with them.

This is what happens when you bash on your local market team. Then wonder why nobody wants to be a sponsor of you.

Their long-time phone number, 1-800-FOOTBALL, has to be worth something (unless Hub already sold it).

With Hub's combination of inside sources and media savvy, I'm sure he will be snapped up by another major media company very soon.

I tweeted to Mac and Speigs yesterday about how Hub had to take a last shot at those "kids with their interwebs", and it made me not really care to see his business ending.

Sarcasm?

Hub hasn't had inside shit for a long while, he's been beaten to the punch constantly, as well.

It has to be, because I can't see an IB liking anything that Hub has to say.

Word is he has rebranded it as 1-800 EMO TALK and is aggressively pitching it as a My Chemical Romance fan chat line.

Have office phone numbers become outdated as well? I don't work for a media company, but I imagine email and texting are the go to modes of communication. They're more efficient and quicker than trying to catch someone at his/her desk. If numbers are used, it's got to be a personal or work mobile smartphone in that type of fast-paced environment where instantaneity is crucial. Even if you're a publication with a paying customer base, email is probably a better and more cost efficient way to communicate with them over having a phone number, no?

Hub still has the national radio Sunday night football gig, the TV show & WSCR. I'm sure he will be fine.

His hits with 670 M&H, M&S, B&B etc are full of smarm and disturbing giggles. But, when he hosts he is a good listen. Especially when not talking football the radio is good stuff for some reason. Weird guy.
